Application Engineer

The Role: The Application Engineer is responsible for providing technical sales support to both external sources (consulting engineers, contractors and end users) and internal sources (regional managers, project management/engineering, manufacturing and after-sales service) to obtain sales orders to meet set sales goals.

  • Provide technical support for preparation of bids and proposals.
  • Design aeration and biological systems for wastewater treatment applications.
  • Provide technical specifications for use in municipal bid documents.
  • Work with project management/engineering and operations to develop and maintain cost to complete equipment.
  • Develop pricing estimates for both direct purchases and competitive bid applications.
  • Interact with third party sales representatives, regional managers, consultants, contractors, and end users on a daily basis through verbal and written communication.
  • Administer equipment procurement bids including: submission of applicable bond request, preparation of bid forms, pricing and providing of all requested information.
  • Oversee project hand-overs to project management/engineering group.
  • Respond proactively to all sales calls.
  • Utilize proprietary software platforms (AXP, Treatment Select, Xylect, Mids, etc.) to address technical questions. Utilize third party software (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and PowerPoint) as needed to enhance customer support.
  • Maintain sales files and customer information database in Salesforce.com
  • Maintain product knowledge through training and seminars.
  • Follow and comply with all ESH&S policies.
  • Support cross-Treatment training and development opportunities
  • Provide and/or receive mentorship for other Treatment and Xylem team members
  • Participate in local water-treatment efforts/organizations
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed including special projects to help improve processes or tools for the sales group or key account management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or related B.S. degree in engineering/environmental studies)
  • 3+ years of experience working in the field of water and/or wastewater treatment industry or equivalent work experience that provides exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
  • Specific hands-on field experience with controls, electrical panels, and/or mechanical equipment is a plus.
  • Demonstrate proficient problem solving techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications in the development of project tenders, designs, cost estimates, and proposals.
  • Superior customer service, interpersonal, effective communicator and influential is required. Ability to facilitate a presentation and technical aptitude of the product/process.
  • Possess ability to complete tasks and resolve difficult technical issues with minimum oversight.
  • Ability to prioritize, focus, and complete most critical tasks while handling multiple assignments with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to network effectively within organization to get things done
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel and CRM software
  • Be a self-starter with high motivation to achieve corporate and personal goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to travel as required (25%)

About This Role

As a Technical Support Specialist at Edwards, you will be responsible for all aspects of providing technical support to Kidde™ customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support via telephone, email, or other IT based tools.
  • Follow predefined procedures to identify, evaluate, solve, and escalate product related issues.
  • Help to reduce technical field installation time and application errors.
  • Ensure accuracy of technical information provided to customers.
  • Provide timely solutions for technical field problems requiring attention to detail.
  • Answer incoming phone calls regarding issues for Fire Alarm and Detection products. (Approx. 15-20 calls/day)
  • Identify and document the problem summary and description as described by the customer as well as record the call details in the Customer Relations Management (CRM) tool following the documented processes.
  • Option to assist in generating articles for Field Connections and Kidde Insight quarterly newsletters.
  • Responds to basic customer inquiries related to installation, modification, upgrade, maintenance and repair of the company products or equipment purchased.
  • Escalate product related issues to the Quality team through our QIT tracking tool.
  • Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, with assistance from STSS, or TS Engineer.
  • Develops a general understanding of supported products and troubleshooting processes.
  • Completes product e learning courses for supported products.
  • Attend any relevant instructor led training for supported products.
  • Mentor Technical Support Representatives (TSR) contributing to the overall growth of the TS Team.
  • May be the Tech Support Product Lead for New Product Development or Sustaining Engineering projects. The Product Lead will interface with the Engineering team providing feedback on Quality issues, Product development or enhancements.
  • May assist in the development of product training modules for the Technical Support team.
  • Potential to create/generate material for Tech Talk Tuesday Webinars.
Basic Qualifications
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years' experience working with commercial fire alarm control panels and detection products.
  • 1+ year of experience with Digital Multi Meter (DMM).
  • 1+ year of experience in an "On Call" rotation. (after onboarding process has been completed)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree
  • NICET Level I or higher in Fire Alarm Systems
  • Experience programming and/or troubleshooting EST-4,IO or VS Fire Alarm Control panels.
