The company delivers freight daily for its customers across the southern United States using its autonomous technology. We are looking for a highly skilled AI/ML Intern with a solid grasp of Computer Vision and Foundation Models, to tackle real-world challenges in robotics. In this role, you will:
- Design and implement state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms using robust, efficient Python code, ensuring high-quality evaluations and reliability.
- Lead the development of innovative deep neural networks to address key robotics problems, such as end-to-end learning, 3d scene understanding, 3D object detection, 3D world reconstruction, and self-supervised learning.
- Work with various sensor technologies like cameras, lidars, and radars to create and refine machine learning datasets, enhancing performance with growing data.
- Develop and manage automated AI flywheel, ensuring seamless integration and efficiency in the machine learning process.
- Work within Kodiak's advanced software ecosystem, pushing the frontiers of existing autonomous systems through continuous innovation and development.
- Strong technical background. You are currently pursuing an MS or Ph.D. and have hands-on experience in designing and implementing deep neural networks; exceptional candidates pursuing a BS are considered.
- You are a skilled engineer with experience in applied AI research, Python programming, and strong problem-solving skills.
- You are passionate about solving real-world robotics problems, and you have ideally worked on autonomous robots before.
- A team player. You take ownership and work with the team to deliver exceptional results. You are interested in the performance of the entire system across engineering disciplines.
- Ability to build and iterate quickly. You enjoy working fast and smart, and you are comfortable in the earlier stages of developing an algorithm from scratch.

**Compensation:**

The qualified candidate will have a PhD in computer science, engineering, physics, biomedical informatics, data science, imaging science, or another related field, or an MD. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated expertise in AI, machine learning and other data science approaches that improve the practice of radiology for some or all of the following: (a) detection of disease and classification of patient data in near real-time, (b) reconstruction, de-noising, and/or otherwise enhancing images, (c) analyzing massive data sets containing both images and non-imaging data sources, (d) creating systems that employ image data to assist human decision makers, (e) developing data resources and tools that catalyze discovery, and (f) rigorously validating AI models pre- and post-deployment to ensure high performance and health equity.
The ideal candidate will have completed a postdoctoral fellowship and have (1) significant research experience resulting in high impact publications and success with grant funding (e.g., an NIH K or R grant) or show potential to achieve, (2) experience in developing and translating algorithms and/or methods into practical settings, and (3) the desire to seek translational collaborations with a broad range of investigators pursuing similar research goals inside and outside of Stanford.
