WMAQ-TV, NBC 5 Chicago, has an opportunity for a News Assignment Editor responsible for handling a variety of News assignment desk operations. WMAQ-TV is an owned and operated television station of NBCUniversal in Chicago.
JOB DUTIES:
+ Coordinate reporters, photographers, and crews for assigned news coverage
+ Set up live shots and plan stories in collaboration with producers and managers
+ Build relationships with outside news contacts to gather accurate information
+ Work with reporters and producers to shape stories and coordinate cross-department efforts
+ Help with daily and future story planning to support newsroom goals
+ Monitor scanners, wires, and online/print sources for breaking news
+ Field produce and conduct interviews when needed

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $62,200 to $83,300 per year based on a 29 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. MSNBC is seeking an experienced and driven?Senior Assignment Editor?to join our news division. This role requires a leader with sharp editorial instincts, strong logistical coordination skills, and the ability to manage complex, fast-moving stories across platforms. The Senior Assignment Editor plays a critical role in newsgathering operations and ensures consistent collaboration with all MSNBC platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Collaborate across all MSNBC News platforms and units to ensure effective and cohesive newsgathering efforts
+ Proactively identify, pitch, and advocate for compelling stories for both broadcast and digital platforms
+ Communicate breaking news and editorial updates to programs, digital and station groups via Slack
+ Work closely with affiliate stations to source video content, packages, and obtain editorial guidance
+ Coordinate coverage and logistics of breaking and ongoing news stories across the MSNBC News division
+ Assign appropriate reporters and producers to support platform needs
+ Oversee logistics to meet the technical, operational, and ENG (Electronic News Gathering) needs of field teams
+ Book camera crews for field teams
+ Source and distribute AP and Reuters video content within Slack threads
+ In urgent breaking news situations, coordinate with the travel desk to expedite field deployment
+ Prioritize bringing in live feeds from partnered stations; use Facebook only as a last resort
+ Edit and clip video content from various sources, including pool feeds, agency footage, and affiliate video
+ Ensure any editorial outreach to a station includes requesting video
+ Visually verify UGC video as rights and clearances for MSNBC
+ Travel to breaking news events to lead and coordinate on-site coverage efforts
+ Tailored duties based on assigned shifts and areas of focus:
Dayside Shifts:?

Evening Shifts:

Overnight Shifts:
