**Purpose**
Student Affairs is searching for an experienced Assistant Vice Provost and Executive Director of Bechtel International Center to provide strategy, vision, leadership, direction and establish objectives and goals and implement innovative strategies for the Bechtel International Center.
**CORE DUTIES** ***:**
+ Identify, clarify and resolve International student and scholars' immigration and visa matters, which requires liaising with the Department of State, US Custom and Immigration Services, Department of Labor, SEVIS, Social Security offices, US consulates and embassies abroad, and US port of entry officials. Advise academic and hiring departments on federal immigration regulations and issues.
+ Serve as the principal designated officer and the designated school official with the Department of State and USCIS, ultimately responsible to troubleshoot immigration issues and answerable to the University and federal agencies for immigration issues/problems that may arise. Serve as institutional officer for SEVIS Compliance. Serve as PDSO, RO and provide leadership to the institution in immigration policy setting and SEVIS compliance.
+ Analyze and respond to new and changing immigration regulations, problem solve complex visa issues, advocate with federal agencies on behalf of the university and international students and scholars.
+ Provide strategic direction and long-range planning for Bechtel International Center, including responsibility for managing programs, budget, facilities, policies, publications, outreach and staff.
+ Work independently to make decisions regarding projects, programs, policies and initiatives, with limited or no review by senior management. Commit university resources with limited or no review by senior officers.
+ Direct efforts of managers, develop those in leadership positions and in the leadership pipeline. Make hiring decisions, provide coaching and mentoring, manage performance, determine staffing needs, develop and ensure succession planning within area of responsibility. Set department guidelines and policies to ensure university compliance with federal immigration regulations.
+ Represent Stanford at professional meetings on and off campus, and cooperate with such Stanford offices as Government Relations, General Counsel, Dean of Research, and Office of President and Provost, to develop coordinated and consistent advocacy initiatives in the area of immigration.
+ Develop cooperative relationships with colleagues in peer institutions to provide a context for responding to changing federal policies.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** **:**
**Education & Experience** **:**
Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in higher education setting strongly preferred.
**Preferred requirements** **:**
+ Master's degree in higher education, international education, or related field.
+ Experience working in a higher education setting.
+ Minimum of seven years of experience working as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) based on F/J federal law training, including government online training as evidenced by a certificate of passing, and meet government eligibility requirements.
+ Experience of in-depth immigration work performed on a routine daily basis and possess a thorough understanding in H-1B, E-3, TN and TN and O-1 visas, in addition to Employment-Based sponsorship processes including but not limited to: EB-2 Standard Labor Certification process, EB-1(a) Extraordinary Ability, and EB-1(b) Outstanding Professor and Researcher.
+ Experience managing a large department, budget and a high volume caseload.
+ Experience interpreting immigration policy and advising senior leadership
