Key Responsibilities:
-Install Cradlepoint routers and run Ethernet and grounding cables from rooftop to management office.
-Build and mount masts for rooftop equipment.
-Route cables through HVAC service boxes and ceiling spaces.
-Perform site inventory and basic troubleshooting.
-Replace external components as needed.
-Partner with experienced techs until ready to work independently.
-Travel to sites across Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana (mileage reimbursed).

- Interpret and adhere to industry standards, including those related to cabling and networking.

The Communications Technician II will install a work area outlet for floor, modular furniture and wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to labeling standards.
The Communications Technician II will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
The Communications Technician II performs testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set.
The Communications Technician II will identify active voice or data circuits.
The Communications Technician II will assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training; coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.

The likely salary range for this position is $69,264 - $80,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

Our work depends on a Cable Technician joining our team to installs, test, troubleshoots, repairs, and removes network cabling and its associated components. Performs layout, installation, termination, labeling, testing, and certification of all associated cabling and ensures compliance with program, industry and base standards.
HOW A FIELD ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
? Provides technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration, and/or enhancement of company technical products, programs, and systems
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
? Education: Bachelor of Science
? Required Experience: 2+ years of related experience
? Required Technical Skills: Coaxial Cabling, Ethernet Cabling, Signal Testing, Cable splicing and Troubleshooting.
? Security Clearance Level: Secret required
? Required Skills and Abilities:
+ Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving and collaborative skills
+ Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multi-task while still ensuring high quality of work.
+ Supports the timely escalation and communication of status to external and internal customers.
+ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills applied to the development and presentation of technical materials appropriate to a broad spectrum of audiences.
+ Adept at interfacing with Government at senior leader levels and representing the interests of GDIT
? Preferred Skills: ITIL V3/4 Foundation or higher
