The UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is recruiting a full-time board-certified or board-eligible Cardiology/CCU /Critical Care Medicine physician at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Professor, open tenure to join our expanding team!
The successful candidate will practice in a dual capacity within the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) and the University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine to include clinical, research and teaching responsibilities. He/she will participate in outreach efforts for the HVI, focused on the Coronary Care ICU with some outpatient responsibilities at locations within the HVI service area. As a faculty member, the successful candidate will actively participate in the research and educational mission of the HVI.
Job duties include clinical coverage in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CCU) at UPMC Presbyterian University Hospital, and potentially in the cardiology consultative services, ECG analysis, interpretation of transthoracic echocardiograms and performance and interpretation of transesophageal echocardiograms and cardiac nuclear studies as needed or as desired by the applicant. These duties will be performed in rotation with other cardiologists within the practice. After-hours and weekend cardiology coverage will be shared among the group.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: - Experience as a teacher or mentor of medical students and residents - Board Certified or board eligible in Cardiology and Critical Care - Demonstrated excellent clinic outcomes - Qualified for medical licensure in Pennsylvania

Having the only Cardiac Catheterization laboratory in the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 4, VAPHS ranks among the highest volume of VA Cardiac Catheterization labs nationwide, performing nearly 1400 diagnostic catheterizations and 450 interventions (including complex percutaneous coronary interventions), yearly. Supports the development of students, staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor. + 5 years as a certified nurse practitioner, physician assistant or relevant managerial experience required (at least 3 of the 5 years from APP experience).
+ 3 years of experience in the department specialty preferred.The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
Special Skills and Abilities Required
In addition to the responsibilities of the Staff APP, the Supervisor, APP must meet the following criteria to achieve supervisor status:
+ Must supervise 3 APPs.
+ Must maintain clinical practice at least 25% of the time.
+ Must precept at least 1 student per year.
+ Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status.Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.
Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances
Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP):
+ The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required
+ BSN, MSN is preferred
+ Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred
+ Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required
+ National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing
+ Current CPR certification is required
+ Act 33 Clearance will be required
+ Act 73 Clearance will be required
+ Act 34 Clearance required
Physician Assistant (PA):
+ A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required
+ BS or MS candidate is preferred
+ Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred
+ Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
+ Current CPR certification is required
+ Act 33 Clearance will be required
+ Act 73 Clearance will be required
+ Act 34 Clearance required
OAPP: If practicing in an outpatient or other non-inpatient setting, APPs can use one of the certifications above or use a business unit approved certification which is relevant, and value added to the practice setting.
