Position Summary:

The primary function of a delivery driver is to safely and efficiently operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with company policies along with Federal and State regulations and delivers all freight undamaged. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Inspect truck/trailer for defects for safe operation.
  • Safely load building materials onto flatbed or boom truck and unload products at commercial and residential job sites.

Summary

What You'll Do:

Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards.

Drive. Drive tractor-trailer combination or tri-axle dump truck to transport and deliver materials.

Inspect and Maintain. Inspect truck for defects before and after trips. Keep tractor, trailer, tri-axle, tailgate, apron, and dump bed clean of loose material (such as rocks, dirt, etc.) and in good working order. Perform weekly tire inspections.

Submit Reports. Submit report indicating truck condition after trips. Maintain a driver log according to I.C. regulations.

Follow Standard Procedures. Follow and maintain standards set for all equipment. Tarp all loads. Load and unload material safely.

Perform General Physical Activities. Perform physical activities such as cleaning all areas on the vehicle, climbing a ladder to inspect loads of ready mix concrete, hanging mixer chutes, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Experience. Related CDL experience and/or training is preferred.

Ready to Drive. Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license. Must be a company approved driver. Must have current long form physical and medical card.

Language Skills. Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have the ability to write simple correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other Vulcan employees.

Basic Math Skills. Must have the ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Must have the ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

All interested applicants for a Non-CDL Driver position, including those applicants that are fully qualified with appropriate license and endorsements, begin with us as a Driver in Training. The best-trained drivers in the business work for us because we devote a significant amount of resources, training, and development to our employees.
A Driver in Training will be trained by our staff to obtain appropriate Driver endorsement(s), where applicable, and to learn our Company policies and procedures. **Responsibilities Include:**
+ ·Provides safe and reliable transportation service by operating a school bus or other location specific vehicle with a fixed or changing route.
+ ·Exhibits the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity; Shares concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with their supervisor or manager
+ ·Reports to duty on time and maintains route on time but in a safe manner.
+ ·Physically assists passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency.
+ ·Immediately reports any accident or incident per Company policy.
+ ·Follows Company Policy around student and/or passenger management.
+ ·Informs all appropriate personnel of problems/procedures.
+ ·Presents a neat and professional personal appearance at all times.
+ ·Completes all required paperwork (including route change sheets, time cards, vehicle repair requests) and submits to the appropriate authority in a timely manner.
+ ·Maintains a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers while always promoting company goodwill.
+ ·Safely and efficiently utilizes vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios and emergency equipment.

**Qualifications**
**Requirements Include:**
· Must be at least 21 years of age; for Tennessee School Bus Drivers, must be at least 25 years of age per state law.
· Must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, all valid applicable state license and other required certifications to operate company vehicles.
· Must meet physical and medical requirements and pass substance abuse screening.
· Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training.
· Must practice defensive driving at all times and avoid vehicular and industrial accidents by practicing safe driving and work habits.
· Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract specific Driver requirements.

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for delivery and pickup of containers to and/or from customer locations; provide an effective and incident free delivery or pickup of a container while maintaining excellent rapport with the customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive and operate a commercial truck with a patented lift mechanism to load and unload containers at customer sites in a safe manner by following all safety rules
    li>Perform and log daily pre and post trip inspections of commercial vehicle and lift
  • Accept add-on deliveries as required to meet business needs
  • Use company handheld computer for delivery verification and navigation
  • Operate a forklift and/or an overhead crane
  • Clean and inspect containers to ensure they are presentable for delivery to customer
  • Coordinate rental paperwork and payment with the customer
  • Communicate with the Driver Lead or Market Manager on customer questions and/or issues; Prepare driver notes as needed
  • Perform repairs of containers and lifts in the field and at the storage center
  • Provide backup for storage center functions when needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of truck cab (keep free from debris inside and outside)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Typically reports to Management. Direct supervisor job title(s) typically include: Market Manager, Territory Manager
  • Job is NOT directly responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and/or pay decisions, performance management)

Responsible for the transportation of equipment to and from all job sites. Delivers materials to customers in a manner that will optimize and improve efficiency and result in outstanding customer service. Transports and delivers equipment and/or products to customers by applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads in the area. Responsible for driving to and from designated locations, verifying loads to shipping papers, maintaining record of duty status according to state and federal regulations and performing pre-trip and post trip inspections.
Essential duties include the following:

  • Champions the company's H.S.E.&T program in all aspects of work performed to provide quality service in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Inspects unit for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip.
  • Drives truck to and from designated destinations of up to 11 hours with and maximum of 14 hours total as DOT rules allow.
  • Applies knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather.
  • Must be able to operate equipment in all types of weather and conditions. This includes going forward and backing up long distances, around corners and in and around very tight areas.
  • Reports all accidents and incidents involving drivers or company equipment.
  • Reports highway safety hazards noted in route.
  • Promptly reports and delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies.
  • Maintains records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including driver's record of duty status, mileage records and other records required by law.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state and local regulations for the safe operations of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Attends all required safety meetings (on-site and off).
  • Performs any and all job duties as assigned by supervisory personnel including general labor, as necessary.
  • This position is required to perform safety sensitive functions as defined in the CES Drug and Alcohol Plan.

General Description. A Dump Truck Driver is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described below.

Key Duties.

  • Valid Class "A" CDL with a driving record within MVR policy guidelines

  • Familiarity with DOT regulations

  • Drives dump truck to transport materials to/from construction projects

  • Knowledge with chaining and binding of equipment being transported. (DOT)

  • Perform daily safety checks of fluid levels on oil, water, fuel and inspections for leaks and damage to vehicle before operation

Qualification Requirements

General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience.

  • This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as aDump Truck Driver.

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of dump truck or related experience is required for this position.

Physical Demands.

  • The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Dump TruckDriver to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.

  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.

  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

  • The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.

Work Environment.

  • The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Dump Truck Driver encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.

  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.


  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites or equipment shop such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt.

Demonstrates Safety 1 st . It is important for members of our team to be actively involved in their own safety, while being considerate of fellow employees.

  • Assess work environment for possible hazards and makes sure training is adequate to the task.
  • Has proper personal protective equipment and tools, uses them appropriately for the given task.
