Kisatchie Midnight Express, a Stella-Jones Company, is seeking a Truck Driver based out of our Plymouth Meeting, PA operations. This role operates a commercial truck to transport materials to and from specified regional destinations by performing the following duties::

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Loads and unloads products and supplies by using a loader/boom with a grapple. Will be offloading rail cars and other trucks. Placing products into yard bunks, and onto other truck/trailer combinations. Delivers to customer yards and job site locations including drop staking.
  • Maintains records, documents, permits, and valid licenses for assigned truck/equipment.
  • Assists in maintenance service of the trucks, yard and support equipment as required.
  • Drives truck to destination including during adverse weather conditions and emergency storm response.
  • Responsible for quantities, correct sizes and types to match shipping and receiving tickets to ensure accurate inventory. Ensures load tickets are signed, dated and submitted on time.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Performs daily pre and post trip DOT inspections on truck, trailer, boom and specialty equipment. Checks oil, coolant, tires, connections, pins and hydraulic hoses daily.
  • Performs emergency roadside repairs such as changing lights, small mechanical problems, hoses and installs tire chains, etc. with guidance from supervisor.
  • Properly secures cargo as per DOT regulations.
  • Responsible for Safety, DOT and yard OSHA awareness.
  • Participates and contributes to company safety program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Education: One year certificate from college or technical school or three to six months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: 2 - 4 years' of commercial trucking experience. Experience with self-loaders/heavy equipment operators preferred. Experience with steering trailers preferred.
  • License/Certification: *Class A Commercial Driver's License Required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add and subtract tow digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100"s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

I. Job Summary

In tandem with a seasoned WM Driver and/or WM Driver Trainer, after receiving their Commercial Driving Permit, the Driver Apprentice will complete the required training to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle providing service to customers in their respective Line of Business (LOB). After obtaining their Commercial Driving Permit, partners with a WM Driver and/or WM Driver Trainer to train on the proper way to operate a commercial refuse / recycling vehicle:

  • Operates vehicle in accordance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state and federal laws.

  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).

  • Immediately reports all unsafe situations or service related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.

  • Attends and participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Operations Manager.

  • Works closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.

  • Notifies Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.

  • Notifies Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service or potential safety hazards.

  • Communicates customer requests to Dispatch or Operations Manager.

  • Completely dumps all receptacles and leaves the customer's location clean and free of debris.

  • Follows route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and check out process.

  • Performs all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assisting other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.

Performs as an on route Helper while obtaining their Commercial Driving Permit and completing the training to be a WM Driver:

  • Works in accordance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) requirements as well as all local, state and federal laws.

  • Assists driver with all backing maneuvers while on route.

  • Communicates customer requests to Dispatch or Operations Manager

Local CDL B Driver and Warehouse Position

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duty of the Driver, which we call a Logistics Specialist II with or without a Crane Operator, is to deliver building materials to a customer's place of business or to a job site. Drivers operate within a maximum of a 200-mile radius of their home branch, with deliveries originating and ending at the branch (no deliveries result in an overnight stay).

  • Be a leader for job site safety by operating all equipment in accordance with local, state, and federal laws at all times.
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections
  • Validate and confirm inventory loaded on the truck comparing purchase orders, sign-off on delivery tickets and confirm addresses on delivery tickets and ensure that routing information is obtained prior to leaving the branch.
  • Conduct a job site inspection and document any existing damage to lawn, landscaping, or driveway, and the location of any power lines, sprinklers, septic tanks, mailboxes, fences, etc.
  • Capture pictures of all building products delivered in accordance with Company Policy.
  • Warehouse work, helping customers in yard with picking up materials, unloading inbound deliveries and putting away in bin locations. Pulling and staging orders for outbound deliveries for our customers.

Requirements

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Ability to load and unload building products that weigh up to 100 lbs. each off of a straight bed truck on a continuous basis. Prior experience operating a forklift or Moffett is a plus.
  • Must be a safe driver with no hit & runs or no DWI or DUI convictions within the last three years. One or more accidents and/or severe violations in the last year will be reviewed by HR and Management.
  • Prior commercial driving experience and knowledge of DOT & OSHA safety regulations for Logistic Specialists a plus.
  • Prior work experience within distribution is a plus.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. If crossing state lines or transporting hazardous materials, then the minimum age is 21. These two issues apply to very few of our positions.
  • Must pass a required drug test and possess a current DOT medical certificate. Must not have positive drug tests in the last 12 months.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or be authorized to work in the U.S. and pass an E-Verify Check.

The CDL Driver I delivers materials to job site, inspects and maintains truck, reports shortages and claims to supervisor and assists in loading and storing of materials. Typically, driving a truck with a capacity of more than three tons, but may be a less experienced CDL or tractor trailer driver.

What you will do
• Operate safely.

• Prepare DOT required log of time on duty and driving.
• Organize and secure load.
• Assist forklift operators when loading.
• Check orders for accuracy.

Education Qualifications

• Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
