Job Summary

Manages the daily operations of the assigned department or function to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.

Reports to: Department Director

Essential Functions

Assist with developing specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.

Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management.

Performs and oversees scheduling, staff development, recruitment, payroll, and student engagements.

Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations.

Determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and oversees proper working order and/or stock supplies.

Assesses the quality of patient care delivered and coordinates patient care services with patients, staff, physicians, and other departments; may provide patient care when necessary.

Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Department/Unit Summary

Our community is growing and thriving. To better serve our community's growth SOVAH Danville Emergency Department is currently under complete renovation to better serve our patients. The new Emergency Department will be a 31-bed unit with a 4:1 ratio for acute patients, with designated behavioral health safe rooms. Our Emergency Department provides care to patients across the lifespan for all medical emergencies. We are a designated Chest Pain Center & Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center. We are an academic teaching site for residents, medical students, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and physician assistants. Qualifications:

Qualifications and requirements

Graduate of a Professional Nursing program required

Bachelor's degree preferred

Additional requirements include:

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) American Heart Association OR Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certification
  • Emergency Nurse Association (ENPC) required, or within six (6) months of hire
  • Trauma Nurse Certification Course (TNCC) Emergency Nurse Association, preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of RN clinical experience in an emergency department required.
  • Minimum two (2) years supervisory/management or Charge Nurse experience, preferably in a patient care setting required.

The successful candidate should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.

  1. Apply appropriate nursing skills in the area and treatment of inmates/residents.

  2. Attend sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents; prepare a list of inmates/residents to be examined; prepare examining room and equipment

  3. Examine and assess new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries or inmates/residents who become ill or injured; refer inmates/residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities as required by their condition.

  4. Perform emergency procedures as needed and notify Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders.

  5. Provide guidance, supervise and monitor nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited college, university or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing.

  • Must possess current licensure in the state of employment.

  • One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred.

  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age.
