Job Summary

Responsible for providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions

Adhere to approved course syllabus.

Provide students with the course syllabus that informs them of course requirements including specific objectives, means of attaining those objectives and methods of evaluation by the end of the first week of classes.

Use teaching methods which are appropriate to reach students of varying educational experiential backgrounds and learning styles. Allow the student to continually assess his/her own progress. Allow reasonable opportunity for each student to master the objectives of the course.

Submit syllabi and/or addendums to the Division Office by the end of the first week of class. Post and maintain office hours as per institutional guidelines. Make provisions for students to evaluate instruction and arrange for submission of evaluation to the designated office.

Participate in faculty orientation sessions, professional development seminars and activities to enhance professional development; accept the responsibility for professional awareness and growth. Acknowledge and support the community college's mission to serve the community.

Perform all other duties appropriate to this position as assigned or directed.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1. Associate's Degree in Court Reporting and three (3) years of work experience exclusive of teaching.

NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.

2. Experience teaching in the discipline.

3. Experience/ability to incorporate technology into the classroom.

4. Experience/ability to teach at the community college level.

Special Conditions:

1. The El Paso Community College is building a pool of Applicants for part-time faculty. Faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the District. EPCC accepts application materials year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Part-time faculty hiring is based on college need. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year. This pool will be accessed when an opening arises. Your application will remain active for approximately one (1) year from July 2025 to June 2026. After this time, you will need to re-apply if you are still interested in remaining a part of the pool.

Job Summary
Under moderate supervision, performs a variety of legal clerical duties in response to actions of the courts. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This is the second in a series of four court clerical-related job classifications within the Administrative Support job family. Incumbents perform duties of moderate complexity. This classification is distinguished from Court Clerk Assistant in that incumbents routinely review the work performed by the Court Clerk Assistant, perform fewer general clerical duties, and require greater independent judgment. This classification is distinguished from Court Clerk II in that incumbents do not regularly perform the majority of their work in a court setting and do not function as lead workers or have regular supervisory duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists and answers questions from the public received in person, by phone or by email regarding the status, disposition, pending actions or other aspects of court cases. Directs customers to the appropriate court clerk. Processes incoming faxes and faxes document confirmation returns. Sorts, logs and distributes incoming mail and legal documents. May date-stamp incoming documents. Performs filing duties. Makes copies when appropriate. May schedule wedding appointments. May provide notary services to public.
  • Serves as liaison or primary point of contact with defendants, plaintiffs, families, judges, court personnel, Constable's Officers, attorneys, County and District Attorney's Office, law enforcement agencies, interested parties, and the general public regarding status, disposition, pending actions of individual cases and parties' actions. Assists public and departments on office policy and procedures. Responds to legal and administrative inquiries. Takes initial steps to resolve citizen complaints and ensures department policies and procedures are met. Provides technical advice and assistance regarding legal documents of all types.
  • May assess fees and fines, receive payments, and perform as cashier for the office on a daily basis. Accepts monies in the form of cash, money orders and cashier checks and issues signed receipts. Receives payment from public for fees and lower court appeal bonds. Conducts cash transactions as payments for warrants including entering credit card transactions and mail payments. Prepares bank deposits. Makes daily and monthly reports to reconcile receipts.
  • Receives and processes petitions, indictments, tickets, affidavits, complaints, applications or information instituting a cause of action and makes appropriate notations in computer system including data element codes. Notifies appropriate authorities of filing when required by law. Conducts review of legal documents submitted, including those submitted electronically. Determines the legal and factual issues presented and dockets the filing into the case tracking system with the appropriate code structure. May process emergency protection orders, peace bond applications, school cases, property hearings, animal cruelty seizures, unlawful towing of vehicles and writs of re-entry. May research and verify petitions and orders for expungement. Maintains a tracking system for processing acquittal expungement orders. Routes assigned causes of action to court, as required.   • Initiates new cases and updates the status of existing cases in the automated case management system. Determines the category and description of each document or transaction by reviewing event logs and case dockets. Organizes, bar codes, and scans documents into the document imaging system. Indexes each document by entering the appropriate category codes and descriptions so that documents can be retrieved quickly using a variety of data elements. Uses scanning software to input case information. Captures images and performs quality assurance. Scans incoming legal documents. Performs quality verification procedures on scanned documents prepared by co-workers. Assesses scanned electronic images for legibility, blank documents and missing records.
  • Prepares or issues summons, capiases, warrants, commitments, subpoenas, citations, writs, injunctions, protective orders, restraining orders, judgments, notices and executed commitments by statute, rule, order of court or request by customer. May accept pleas, pleadings, and motions and records all documents. Maintains up-to-date docket detail retrieval to provide accurate information to judge and interested parties. May prepare extensions, deferred dispositions, defensive driving requests and determines if conditions are met. May review and verify license suspension orders and submit documentation to law enforcement agencies. Reviews and may interpret orders signed by judge to determine further action required. Follows through on action. Receives and processes exhibits to be filed, follows through on orders for consolidation, severance or transfer. Prepares post-judgment documents, such as writs of habeas corpus, abstracts of judgment, order of sale, and writs of execution in compliance with statutes, rules, case law and customer requests. Inspects proposed orders and court records for correctness before submitting to judge.
  • Sets cases for trial and notifies parties of scheduled settings. Files pleadings and records docket information. May schedule criminal and civil bench and jury trials. Prepares and issues subpoenas, judgments and orders. May coordinate with jury office to ensure adequate availability of jurors. Assists judge in courtroom with jurors and other parties during trial. Issues notices, prepares documents and files for court, and ensures equipment and materials are prepared daily for courtroom. Checks in parties arriving for trial and assists judge in courtroom. May schedule interpreter if needed. May prepare commitments and assist judge with jail call. May assist inmates who have limited English skills. May prepare appeals, including accepting bonds and determining due dates to be filed with Appellate Court. May process, execute and distribute judgments, opinions and mandates from Appellate Court.
  • May provide radio and telecommunications services to deputies in the field. Receives, evaluates and responds to radio traffic. Maintains radio or phone contact and monitors deputies. Processes information received from field deputies and updates deputies with research.
  • May calculate judgments and writs at multiple interest rates. Prepares public notices of property sales and postings. Prepares and files documents of sale, including deeds. Prepares legal notices of eviction. Maintains inventories of seized property and funds and arranges for storage, as required.
  • Works closely with division managers on special projects. Conducts research inquiries in multiple databases. Updates legal files with pertinent information. May coordinate for off-site storage of records. Performs statistical analysis and produces activity reports.
  • May receive warrants and processes warrant information into computer system. Conducts research on parties named in warrants and updates files. Prepares and mails notices to individuals with outstanding warrants. Notifies deputies of outstanding warrants. Tracks warrants currently bring worked. Works with deputies in clearing outstanding warrants. Closes outstanding warrants when obligations fulfilled.
  • May notify law enforcement authorities and other essential parties when a protective order becomes final. Assists customers with Legal Ease payments and receives approval information from bank. Coordinates files going to off-site storage and docketing of civil case files and civil bond forfeitures cases.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration or a directly related field AND two (2) years of responsible clerical experience, including familiarity with legal procedures, terminology, the court system, and customer service;

Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.

Parking
A limited number of assigned parking spaces are available to employees in the Courthouse Complex.

Personal Holidays
Regular, full-time employees are eligible for up to three paid personal holidays each calendar year. Part-time employees shall be granted personal holidays on a prorated basis. New employees earn personal holidays for the calendar year in which he/she begins employment, based on the month in which employment begins:

New employees are eligible to take personal holidays after 90 days of employment.
Retirement
Travis County is a member of the Texas County & District Retirement System with mandatory participation by certain classes of employees. Seven percent (7%) of the gross salary is deducted each pay period. An employee is fully vested after eight years of service. Benefits are prorated for part-time employees.

Sick Leave
Regular employees earn sick leave at a rate of eight hours per month with unlimited accrual during employment. Part-time employees earn sick leave on a pro-rated basis.

Parental Leave
Each Full-time Paid Parental Leave Eligible (PPL) Employee is entitled to a total of 320 hours of Paid Parental Leave in a 12 month period. Paid Parental Leave for Part-time PPL Eligible Employees is prorated based on the number of hours that they are regularly scheduled to work.

Tuition Refund
Certain classes of full-time employees may receive reimbursement for fees associated with pre-approved, job related course work completed satisfactorily.

Vacation
Based on years of county service, regular, full-time employees earn vacation time at the following rates:

0 to 5 years

4.0 hours per pay period

6 to 10 years

4.5 hours per pay period

11 to 15 years

21 plus years

Summary

COURT REPORTER

SALARY: $ 106,831.00 per year

Purpose of Classification

Performs clerical work in support of assigned court proceedings. Duties include creating and maintaining accurate stenographic records of all court proceedings, including hearings, pleas, motions, and trials, and to properly maintain the records following the Rules of Civil Procedure Positions in this class perform routine transcript reconciliation and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer transcription questions; and maintain court proceedings documents and records.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Provides readback of notes to the Court, counsel, the jury, and witnesses when required during the proceedings.

Keeps and maintains evidence, including written records and weapons, throughout the proceedings and upon completion file the evidence with the proper authorities.

Attends all sessions of court and take accurate stenographic notes of all court hearings and make a full record of the evidence when requested by the judge or any party to a case, together with all objections to the admissibility of the evidence, the rulings, and remarks of the court thereon.

Makes a full record of jury argument and voir dire examinations when requested to do so by the attorney for any party to a case, together with all objections to such arguments. The rulings and remarks of the court thereon.

Prepares official transcripts of all such evidence or other proceedings, or any portion thereof, subject to the laws of this state, these rules and the instructions of the presiding during the trial of the case.

Must perform real-time court reporting and have all necessary equipment and software for said court reporting.

Screens incoming call and visitors.

Designs and generate miscellaneous forms used in office or courtroom.

Additional Functions

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year of experience performing clerical work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must hold a current certification as a Certified Shorthand Reporter through the Supreme Court of Texas, and must keep certification current; Knowledge and ability to apply correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, including legal and medical terminology; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the District Clerk's office and all parties involved in a case; knowledge of courtroom and legal terminology, and familiarity with courtroom procedures. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Summary : Makes verbatim record of all court proceedings; accurately transcribes proceedings when requested.
Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: Records all court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and motions in front of the Judge, using stenograph machine; maintains and stores all notes of courtroom proceedings; marks exhibits introduced during trials; stores exhibits in secure vault; transcribes testimony from notes by oral readback or in typewritten form as requested by the Judge, jury, and/or attorneys during courtroom proceedings; prepares typewritten statements of fact for attorneys as requested; prepares accurate transcripts of court proceedings for use when case is appealed as requested by attorneys; assists Court Clerk with clerical work, answers telephone, types correspondence and other documents for Judge as needed. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Education & Experience

Specialized Requirements: Certification in good standing as a Court Reporter by the State of Texas, obtained by passing State Board Examinations. Must maintain continuing education requirements in order to be re-certified by the Court Reporters Certification Board of the State of Texas.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Overall knowledge of civil justice system and courtroom procedure; knowledge of accepted office practices and procedures; strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent stenographic, transcription, typing, and word processing skills; strong interpersonal skills to cooperate and interact with co-workers, including Judge, Court Coordinator, Bailiff, and other court personnel; and the ability to deal effectively with attorneys, juries, defendants, and the general public.

Equipment Used: Stenograph machine, personal computer (word processing) and printer, and other general office equipment as needed.

Work Situations/Demands/Efforts: Work requires organizing; accuracy; attention to detail; working alone and as part of a group; dealing with litigants and the general public; flexibility in order to perform a variety of duties; performing routine, repetitive duties; maintaining a high-speed performance; working in high volume environment; meeting frequent deadlines.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a climate-controlled courtroom and in a private office environment. Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and other hours as dictated by the needs of the Court.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary; duties require regular prolonged sitting; duties also require reaching, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 10 lbs.; may occasionally lift and/or move boxes as well as carry steno machine and related equipment.

COURT MONITOR JOB DESCRIPTION

The Court Monitor Staff reports directly to the Team Leader, Manager and to the Director of Altitude Trampoline Park.

Court Monitors are expected to:

  • You make sure the Park is active and safe

    • Communicate and enforce all park regulations and jumping rules in a personable and professional manner

    • Maintain the safety of patrons in and around the jumping surfaces and foam pits

    • Remain alert and use all senses while court monitoring

    • Complete the trampoline safety checklist at the beginning of each day, and report problems to the supervisor

    • Work as a team with other court monitors during special events

  • You make sure the attractions are fun!

    • Smile and talk to the customers

    • Play and engage with the kids

    • Be courteous with the customers, explain "the why" behind the rules when enforcing them

  • You are the Park Inspector

    • Communicate any potentially dangerous elements of the facility to the Team Leader, Manager and to a Director of Altitude Trampoline Park

    • Record equipment inspections

    • Perform routine maintenance on the park attractions

  • You will be the Park's first responder

    • Respond to an emergency by blowing your whistle loudly three times to get management attention and other help

    • Handle all incidents in a manner appropriate to your training. First Aid is to be administered by the Facility Supervisor UNLESS it is LIFE THREATENING. Never give anyone medication. Recommend that all injured patrons seek professional medical attention. Complete all injury reports in black and blue ink.

    • Do NOT contact 911- Manager on duty will make this call

    • Do NOT discuss ANY injuries or medical treatment with anyone on or off duty. This is a HIPPA violation and immediately makes you liable.

    • Clear the immediate trampoline area in the event of an emergency. Do not move any injured person.

  • Be Responsible

    • Attend ALL scheduled shifts and staff meetings

    • Participate in and help facilitate staff training

    • If unable to work, find a substitute and complete the substitution form
