Job Description
Tenure track Assistant Professor position (starting Fall 2026). The Department of Social & Decision Science (SDS) seeks candidates with research in one of the following areas:
+ Cognitive Decision Science: candidates who use computational modeling to illuminate fundamental questions about representation and cognitive operations in higher order cognition.
+ Complex Social Dynamics: candidates who use mathematical or computational modeling along with empirical data to address transdisciplinary questions about decision making in complex social systems
Candidates should have a PhD by the start of the appointment. The successful candidate will teach in our undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Department of Social & Decision Science and Carnegie Mellon University has been at the forefront of computational social science and behavioral decision research for over seventy years and hosts a renowned faculty. In addition to PhD programs in Behavioral Decision Research, Cognitive Decision Science, Autonomous & Human Decision Making, and Behavioral Economics, SDS offers unique undergraduate majors in Decision Science, Behavioral Economics, and Policy & Management. The newly formed Institute for Complex Social Dynamics ( brings together researchers in this area from across campus. This effort is to acquire professional, scientific, and technical support services for the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine's Aeromedical Operational and Clinical Psychology Division (USAFSAM/FESP) to create research capabilities. Specifically, this project seeks to evaluate the impacts of Integrated Operational Support (IOS) services on biopsychosocial processes associated with optimal functioning for promoting resilience among Airmen and Guardians. Measuring outcomes is an essential aspect of evidence-based program development and evaluation. At present, there is no standard method for evaluating IOS teams' intervention outcomes. Implementing such a process can enhance the capabilities of IOS teams in supporting individuals and commanders to ensure Airmen and Guardian readiness. Further, gathering data on those who use IOS services can support evidence-based program development. Services shall include scientific research design, professional updates of the scientific literature, database management, data collection and statistical analysis, discussion of the results, composition of research technical reports, and generating and delivering professional presentations for academic conferences. Support shall require contractor employee to interface with USAFSAM/FESP Aeromedical staff, 711th Human Performance Wing (711th HPW) staff, research partners and participants, and minimally with supported MAJCOM/HQ staff as needed. The employee shall meet the requirements of this task order with the professional support and technically qualified personnel to assist in areas required to meet the stated objectives and to accomplish the work required.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive study protocol, including hypothesis, methodologies, collection strategies, and overall statistical analysis of study data in consultation with USAFSAM/FESP professional staff.
- Provide customer leadership a relevant scientific literature review and data analyses, as well as participate in related discussions with USAFSAM/FESP staff.
- Confer with and advise USAFSAM/FESP professional staff regarding optimal statistical approaches to analyze study data. The employee shall perform statistical analyses of study data using descriptive and inferential statistical procedures.
- Minimize any threats to the validity of the statistical products or online data repositories, as well as maintain the data in a secure fashion consistent with IRB protocol and safeguards. The employee shall maintain confidentiality of screening data, contents of technical reports, and presentation of data deemed sensitive and not releasable to the general public. The employee shall complete the appropriate IRB paperwork and training requirements for conducting research.
- Prepare reports of scientific/statistical results in support of scientific literature publication, in coordination with USAFSAM/FESP and 711 HPW staff. The number of professional presentations, reports, and papers shall be verified based upon the relevance of research findings, as they become available.
- Can expect to travel, as needed, to provide professional support, customer consultations, and research presentations at line leadership meetings and professional conferences. The employee can work with USAFSAM/FESP personnel regarding personal limitations on travel scheduling. The employee shall maintain communications with project personnel that facilitate teamwork; adhere to strict confidentiality and classification requirements in all forms of communication.
- Responsible for data management and coordinating process with project team members, which shall include acquisition, input, maintenance, electronic format products, and storage of all project data. The employee shall assist staff in the collection of assessment data maintenance and downloading into the project database.
- Provide project operations support, to include assistance with USAFSAM/FES research activities and acquisition of data in support of project goals and objectives.
- Arrange, lead, oversee, and participate in research team meetings, (to include leading a weekly meeting) as needed, to ensure effective communication between research team members as related to the achievement of project research goals.
- If there is an unexpected interruption in research capabilities and/or reduction in workload, the employee shall support research endeavors in support of additional USAFSAM/FESP related investigations, as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements
- Minimum of a master's degree specializing in Research Psychology, ideally in fields of Industrial Organizational, or Applied Social psychology.
- Expert knowledge with at least 5 years of experience of database development, gathering and organizing data supporting analyses for a wide range of analytical procedures, research report writing, and developing actionable recommendations for improving human performance and behavioral science research.
- At least 5 years of experience with developing products presenting research outcomes (e.g., statistical results and interpretations), to include professional presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and/or technical reports.
- At least 5 years of experience designing and conducting statistical data analysis using software such as JMP, SPSS, R, etc.
- Have a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information. The NDA shall be provided to the Government Program Manager by start of performance.
Desired Qualifications
- Doctoral degree specializing in Research Psychology, ideally in fields of Industrial Organizational, or Applied Social psychology is desired.
- Strong background in program evaluation, including designing, implementing, and analyzing data to assess program effectiveness is desired.
- Experience developing and administering comprehensive, validated psychological instruments via mobile and web-based capabilities is desired.
- Experience presenting statistical results at peer-reviewed national forums (i.e., Society of Industrial Organizational Psychology, American Psychological Association, Aerospace Medicine Association) is desired.
- Experience as an author of publications in peer-reviewed journals or official USAF/DoD technical reports in behavioral science with regards to human performance and behavioral science research is desired.

The approaches we are taking could help us to develop mechanistic hypothesis for experimental validation. Our findings will enhance the general understanding of drug mechanism(s) of action and the underlying the pathophysiology responsible for substance use disorders, thus opening new avenues for discovering novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of substance use disorders.
Dr. Ho's laboratory has established protocols for differentiating human iPSCs into a variety of cell types, including neurons, astrocytes, and brain organoids, and has developed cellular models and cell therapeutic candidates for diseases including alcohol use disorder, and opioid use disorder.
**Qualifications**
**Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:**
+ The successful applicant should have completed a PhD or MD in biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, or a related field. While ideal candidates should have expertise in one of the following areas, we also appreciate candidates in other fields who are committed to learning new skills and keen to bring their unique expertise to study neuropsychiatric disorders in a collaborative environment.
+ The ability to work independently, to participate in highly collaborative projects, and to contribute intellectually to the development of the research and process development are requisites for this position.
+ Experience in basic fundamental molecular biology techniques (such as gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, qPCR, molecular cloning, CRISPR editing, plasmid construction, virus packing, iPSC culture, RNA-sequencing, multi-omics studies).
+ Candidates are expected to lead a project and establish collaborative research and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
**Key Responsibilities include:**
+ The postdoctoral fellow will lead a project on human iPSC-based disease modeling and therapeutic development for neuropsychiatric disorders such as alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder.
+ The postdoctoral fellow is expected to write progress reports and high-quality manuscripts for publication. Applying for postdoctoral fellowship and participating in grant applications are encouraged.
+ Dr. Ho will provide training for iPSC generation and maintenance, and lab techniques for functional genomic studies. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for routine cell culture for iPSCs and brain organoids i.e. these cells require renew culture media daily. The postdoctoral fellow will use the data generated from the scRNA-seq and generate hypothesis and test in the lab. She/he will work closely with Dr. Ho for this grant to pursue the function and mechanisms of genes and pathways identified in the course of this project. She/he will have their own projects and build their bibliography during their postdoctoral training.

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, in Hershey, PA is seeking a part time overnight sleep technician.
Responsibilities include:
- Accountable for all overnight sleep research recordings; monitor and track research studies to ensure quality control.
- Perform PSGs and DXA Scans and participate in the collection of Actigraphy, Holter EKG Monitor and other research participant data.
- Maintain supplies for sleep laboratory as well as recording equipment to ensure it is in working order at all times for research studies.
- Collect and analyze biological samples (saliva, urine, blood) and knowledge of phlebotomy desired but not required. Training is available if needed.
- Participate in aspects of sleep data management for assigned projects including: update and maintain databases; resolve problem data issues; track data collection forms, and other project materials; perform verification procedures.
- Collaborate with project coordinators, statisticians, clinical investigators, clinical personnel, and other data management personnel to plan and implement sleep data management tasks for research projects.
Work Hours: Part time, PRN hours, working 3rd shift, including weekends, 8:30 pm-8:30 am
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Training: Bachelor's degree or equivalent; Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) strongly preferred. Will consider sleep studies training in candidates with suitable experience.
