At the highest level is the Strategic EdTech Team, of which there is only one. It includes our largest and most complex customers. Below that are the 3 Enterprise Edtech Teams: SouthEast, NorthEast and West. The last strata is known as the Emerging/Greenfield team and there is only one of those.
EdTech and its sister set of Govtech teams (together we are known as "XTech") are part of the larger SLG/EDU domain. State and Local Government and Education. EdTech SouthEast is comprised of 7 territories, each of which includes several customers, usually from 4 to 7 customers per territory. Each territory has one Solutions Architect (SA) who is paired with one Account Manager (AM). My team consists of 6 SAs. EdTechs are ISVs - commercial companies, usually PE backed, that provide SAAS products (mostly) for Education Institutions. Job Description
Do you like helping customers implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems? Would you like to do this using the latest cloud computing technologies? Do you have a knack for helping groups understand application architectures and integration approaches, and the consultative and leadership skills to launch a project on a trajectory to success?
Do you want to be part of the business development team helping to establish Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a leading technology platform? Would you like to be part of a sales group, but have your opinion valued as a technical resource as part of planning and strategies?
Amazon Web Services is looking for a Solutions Architect to help accelerate our growing Education Technology (EDU/EdTech) business as part of the World Wide Public Sector practice. This is an excellent opportunity to join Amazon's technical teams, and technical managers while also developing your skills and furthering your career within one of the most innovative and progressive technology companies anywhere.
As a Solutions Architect within AWS, you will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver on a strategy to build broad use of Amazon's utility computing web services (e.g., AWS EC2, AWS S3, AWS RDS, and AWS CloudFront) directly with customers and our ecosystem of system integrators and solution providers.
Your broad responsibilities will include: helping Education Technology organizations implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems, owning the technical engagement and ultimate success around specific implementation projects, defining implementation architectures, developing a deep expertise in the AWS technologies as well as broad know-how around how applications and services are constructed using the AWS platform.
As a Solutions Architect on our team, you will provide exceptional technical design and thought leadership to the EdTech markets for cloud computing working with a world class sales and business development team. You will lead efforts to capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the AWS solution architect community. You will gain the opportunity to learn from, collaborate with, and educate some of the brightest technical minds in the industry today across the breadth of enterprise architecture.
Strong preference for this position to be on the East Coast of the United States. Other locations in the United States will be considered. Relocation offered from within the US to any of these locations.
Up to 30% travel is required.
Key job responsibilities
1) Execution of a strategic technical account plan for platform adoption (e.g., establish relationships to influence technical stakeholders);
2) Direct customer interaction to technically qualify and validate sales opportunities (e.g., conduct architecture meetings to validate solution);
3) Thought leadership engagements to evangelize and advocate for the AWS platform (e.g., public speaking at customer/partner events) ;
4) Curation and documentation of best practices to accelerate deployments of AWS solutions (e.g., public whitepapers, blogs, code);
5) Conducting technical enablement for customers/partners (e.g., Immersion Days); and
6) Capturing customer feedback and demand for evolving the AWS platform.
About the team
My team is known as the EdTech SouthEast Team. We are part of the NAMER based WWPS EdTech team. There are 5 EdTech teams in all. They are divided into 3 strata, primarily according to their scope and complexity, which is closely tied to their spend levels.
EdTech and it's sister set of Govtech teams (together we are known as "XTech") are part of the larger SLG/EDU domain.
As such, they are competitive, profit oriented, fast paced and keen to innovate, but also to control costs. A large part of our work is guiding them through prem-to-cloud migrations or compete takeaways from Azure and GCP or modernization projects. There's a lot of GenAI. The rhythm of the industry is seasonal, aligned with the school year, which means the biggest changes to their applications and workloads often happen during the Summer months. But that's not 100% of the work. Things happen all the year through, especially when deploying new projects, applications, regions, etc.
