Role Summary:

The Application Engineer sees it all-design, manufacturing, installation and operation of our pumps and seals at our customers' sites in the oil and chemical industries. In this challenging position the Application Engineer (AE) provides real-time technical support to our customers, and provides recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and replacement equipment. The AE is actively engaged in troubleshooting problems and implementing solutions onsite at nearby customer facilities in Freeport , TX , and at our repair center in Pasadena, TX.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicate the needs of customers to Flowserve and be the customers' primary source of information regarding design, application, installation, operation, and maintenance of our centrifugal and liquid ring vacuum pumps, and mechanical seals.

  • Act as liaison between customers and Flowserve's sales engineers, reliability engineers, customer service, and manufacturing.

  • Troubleshoot technical problems at our customers' sites and in-house at our Flowserve Quick Response Repair Center.

  • Complete projects requiring both hands-on and mathematical approaches such as failure analysis reports, product performance reports, etc.

  • Evaluate reports and data to support recommendations for improvement, replacement, or repair of equipment.

  • Present clear verbal and written technical explanations to customers, tailoring content, and style to the audience.

  • Implement and administer the mechanical seal standardization and customer specification process.

  • Help organize and ensure monthly "Bad Actor" meetings to maintain visibility on equipment performance.

  • Provide technical guidance about successful installation and operation of our products, ensuring that standardized installation procedures are followed.

  • Maintain data regarding customers' equipment and parts inventories, responding with appropriate actions regarding inventory reduction and consolidation.

  • Maintain data in engineering systems; process engineering change notices; submit corrective action reports; and maintain current, accurate, organized files.

  • Help conduct technical training as needed for our customers.

Requirements:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree required.

  • All levels of experience will be considered, including new grads and mid-career. In-plant operations experience highly desired.

  • Knowledge of the design, materials, and operational requirements of mechanical seals and rotating equipment, especially centrifugal and liquid ring vacuum pumps.

  • Local travel using personal vehicle, and some overnight travel required.

  • May be required to meet certain medical and physical requirements to perform duties on customer operating facilities. (e.g., walking large customer sites, and ascending/descending ladders and staircases in multi-story facilities).

+ Creating and update detailed "Look Ahead" schedules
+ Submit schedule updates as required by the contract documents

The Operations Engineer will support day-to-day operations for the propane/propylene Splitter plants in Mont Belvieu, TX and will report directly to the unit Manager. This position plays a crucial role in providing technical direction and leadership for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility. The Operations Engineer collaborates with various stakeholders and support groups to meet production targets, optimize daily operation of the plant, and achieve reliability improvements. This position is a hands-on role. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, process optimization, and improving plant run time. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide production and process optimization, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical support to the operations organization.
  • Review and develop operating procedures, diagrams, training materials, and job aids as required to properly document, teach, and optimize site operations.
  • Track variable costs and identify opportunities to reduce those costs via process optimization.
  • Organize, lead, and participate in improvement initiatives, projects, and process optimization teams to deliver specific, focused, time bound improvement objectives.
  • Monitor operations on a daily/weekly basis, reviewing KPI's, operating logs, Distributed Control System (DCS) trends, quality results, and other sources of data to ensure reliable, consistent, and cost-effective operations.
  • Work with Process Controls Engineers to make improvements to unit control philosophy.
  • Intervene where appropriate to identify and resolve operating issues.
  • Guide and assist Field Engineering team on the design and implementation of new facility processes and/or equipment upgrades.
  • Provide process engineering support during unit turnarounds. This includes activities such as shutdown/startup support, troubleshooting, and internal inspections.
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain reliability improvement techniques such as predictive and preventive maintenance, root cause analysis, and risk-based inspection.
  • Ensure compliance with all steps of OSHA 1910.119 / Process Safety Management and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain the calculation basis for unit's permits and prepare emission event calculations.
  • Work with Field Environmental team to ensure compliance with all aspects of site permits.
  • Satisfactorily perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree, chemical engineering preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in plant environment, or related industry is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with production, process, or mechanical troubleshooting and optimization activities.
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is required.
  • Working knowledge of reliability improvement techniques such as predictive and preventive maintenance, root cause analysis, risk-based inspections, and total productive maintenance is preferred.
  • Experience with Process Modeling software, such as Hysys, Unisim, Promax is preferred.
  • Must show strong initiative, be self-motivated, work with minimal supervision. Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, and be detailed oriented with the ability to handle fast-paced projects with constantly changing priorities and scope.
  • Must be proficient in balancing multiple priorities and activities and be able to meet deadlines in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Must demonstrate a proven track record of working in a team environment, possess a strong technical/problem solving aptitude and be data driven.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by identifying and enrolling appropriate resources is required.
  • Knowledge of DCS and advanced process control systems is preferred.
  • Ability to work night shifts as needed during plant outages.
  • Ability to perform confined space entry and inspection work as needed during plant outages.

**About the role**
+ As a Project Engineer, you will oversee integrity improvements at our Deer Park production facility. An individual to design, plan, and manage construction of assigned plant capital and alteration projects. Typical total annual project responsibility ranges from $2-$ million per year. The person will also support the maintenance, operations, commercial, and logistics teams by providing mechanical specification guidance, as needed, to ensure appropriate construction materials and methods.
+ You will be accountable for:
+ Developing and managing project scopes, including conceptual designs, specifications, drawings, and estimates.
+ Ensuring project compliance with engineering principles, company standards, government regulations, and other specifications, as well as approving design changes and generating new technical documents.
+ Coordinating project activities, resolving design and test issues, controlling budgets, and preparing status reports.
+ Managing external design firms and contractors, inspecting equipment, assisting with project start-ups, and ensuring compliance with safety and change management requirements.

**About you**
+ Bachelor's degree from four-year Engineering college or university.

The successful candidate will provide process and equipment technical expertise to supportSulfuric Acid manufacturing operations and ensure safety, reliability, capability, and productivity of the facilities.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Serve as the lead technical resource for the Sulfuric Acid manufacturing unit.
  • To provide engineering and troubleshooting assistance to the La Porte Sulfuric Acid unit.
  • Owner of the Sulfuric Acid area Technical Standards and ensure they stay up to date.
  • Initiate Management of Change (MOC) to the process to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit.
  • Participate in and lead Process Hazards Analyses per the schedule set out for the assigned process.
  • Perform experiments (EOI's) on the process to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit.
  • Monitor the process on an on-going basis to look for positive and negative shifts to identify improvement opportunities. Uptime, Aspen Process Explorer, and Data Analytics software would routinely be used to do this.
  • Ensure that the area process documentation is up to date. This would include operating procedures and process drawing updates.
  • When needed, provide shift/weekend coverage for start-ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds or other non-routine needs.
  • Assist capital project front-end loading to ensure equipment that is specified meets process requirements at the highest uptime and lowest life cycle cost. Provide process support to all project phases.


The following is required for this role:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university/institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related industrial / manufacturing work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and diagnose/solve complex technical problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic chemical engineering principles.
  • Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written communications.
  • Ability to influence others to achieve tasks.
  • Proficient in the use of computers.


The following is preferred for this role:
  • 10+ years of related industrial / manufacturing work experience.
