Garver is seeking a Project Engineer to complement our reputable staff and join our growing Transportation Team in our Ridgeland, MS office to continue the tradition of providing quality service to our clients.

Responsibilities of this position will be to assist in the design and creation of construction documents on a wide variety of transportation projects including:

  • Establishing the roadway geometric design for both horizontal and vertical alignments including super elevation.
  • Evaluating the drainage needs of open channels and storm sewer systems thru hydrology and hydraulic calculations
  • Determining construction perimeters by 3D modeling of roadway corridors.
  • Designing traffic components of both permanent, and temporary traffic control during construction
  • Calculating quantities and assisting in submittal production thru plan sheet setup and technical drafting.
There will be on the job training provided to help master these skills listed above.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 2-8 years of related experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office
Preferred Skills
  • Previous experience in consulting engineering with a primary focus on transportation projects
  • Experience with MicroStation, Geopak/InRoads, and Open Roads
  • Familiarity with AASHTO's highway and traffic publications
  • Previous experience in consulting engineering with a primary focus on MDOT transportation projects

The applicable base salary range for this role is $87,800 to $153,700.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus as a Senior Project Engineer. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for performing electrical engineering and related activities associated with Qualus projects. Although a significant portion of expected projects are in power transmission and delivery (substations), other project related activities could include work scopes in power generation and industrial facilities. The Project Engineer will be required to perform and oversee the work designers, engineer interns and/or lead small technical teams. He/she will also be required to manage the scope, schedule, and budget for assigned projects. This position does require occasional travel and overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and/or leads the project team to create all design documents and drawings for a project including electrical system drawings (single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, interconnects, etc.) and electrical physical drawings (general arrangement and elevations, ground grid plan and details, conduit plan and details, lighting plan and lightning protection plan, etc.).

  • Performs and/or leads the project team to perform and develop electrical system studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash hazard, protective device coordination, harmonics, and ground grid analysis using industry standard software. Applicable software: SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, CEGS, and CYME.

  • Manages Qualus projects both technically and administratively. Working within the project team to develop project deliverables to meet customer and internal schedules within budgeted manhours and costs associated with subcontract engineering, labor, and material. Lead procurement and site construction efforts on Qualus's engineer-procure and engineer-procure-construct projects in part by (1) directing and supporting Qualus internal resources for procurement and expediting and (2) managing the site construction manager who may be an internal or subcontract resource or part of the contractor labor team.

  • Provides technical support in the development of Qualus proposals which includes application engineering, writing of equipment performance specifications, estimating, conceptual and detailed design/ drawing development/ calculations, support to solicit equipment and material and labor proposals, and review of equipment and labor quotations.

  • Manages active Qualus clients which includes both technical support and promoting extended and new services. During project activities, be attuned to the possibility of other work with the client. Be prepared and engage in discussions on what Qualus Engineering does and can offer to the client.

  • Make site visits for construction observation on current projects underway and to investigate prospective project opportunities.

  • On a time-limited basis, manage site construction, observe and lead testing and maintenance, oversee repairs of electrical equipment, and perform forensic investigations, depending on experience level.

  • Participate in ongoing technical training through work assignments and strategically selected 3 rd party classes.

  • Performance of other technical and marketing duties as assigned.

  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work

Garver seeks a Project Engineer - Hydrology and Hydraulics to join our growing Transportation Team that could be located in our North Little Rock, AK; Frisco, TX; South Oklahoma City, OK; Ridgeland, MS or Houston, TX office, with the ability to collaborate with municipal, highway and other clients to prepare hydrologic and hydraulic reports, studies, and designs.

This Project Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling of streams, rivers, drainage systems, and other storm water conveyance features
  • Preparing reports, studies, and designs related to hydrologic and hydraulic analysis
  • Working with senior H&H managers to learn and enhance modeling skills
  • Working with a multi-disciplined team to execute project deliverables for clients
The successful candidate will also have the ability to collaborate and be mentored by our experienced H&H professionals as well as interact with Garver staff from across the company.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program
  • Course work emphasis in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources engineering
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office software
  • 2+ years relevant experience
Preferred Skills
  • Licensed as an Engineer in Training (EI), or will have the ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis software, especially HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS
  • Previous experience in consulting engineering with a primary focus on hydrology and hydraulics projects
  • Experience with CAD design software such as MicroStation
  • Experience with ESRI Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software
  • Master's degree in engineering with emphasis in water resources engineering
  • Experience with two-dimensional hydraulic modeling software

**Responsibilities**
Field Engineering:
- Assist in the interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
- Assist in managing the Document Control procedure in the field.
- Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining the percentage of completed/installed materials and work.
- Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
- Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data.
- Assure that quality inspections are being done and sign-off documentation is collected/assist in managing the quality plan.
- Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets and calculating daily costs.
- Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's).
- Participate in job site safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
- Order and schedule material deliveries.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the job site.
- Supervise field operations.
- Assist in managing subcontractors.
Office Engineering:
- Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operation.
- Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use.
- Assist in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested.
- Assist in scheduling maintenance and performing updates as directed by others.
- Assist with Document Control to ensure that only current revisions of documentation are being used.
- Assist in the maintenance of basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), and memorandums.
- Assist with entering data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management.
- Assist in generating change orders and as-built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager.
- Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.
- Prepare documentation for weekly and monthly reports to management.
Estimating:
- Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data relative to the project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in preparation of a bid.
- Complete a plan and specification review for an assigned project, assessing the risk areas and bringing them to the attention of the supervisor.
- Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents.
**Qualifications**
- Ability to travel and relocate as needed.
- 3+ years' construction field experience.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship, both now and in the future.
