Job Description

Overview:

Corporate Tools is hiring a Software Engineer. You will be a traditional company employee. This is a remote position, but if you're near one of our local offices, you're welcome to come hangout with us in-office as well. Our main offices are in Post Falls, ID, and Spokane, WA; we also have satellite offices in Austin, TX, and Salt Lake City, UT. You'll be working 40 hours a week and, of course, enjoy great company benefits.

At Corporate Tools, you will work with a close-knit group of engineers who come from a diverse mix of backgrounds and experiences. We build out exciting new Rails projects, as well as maintain and refactor older Rack-based ones built in "plain old Ruby". We are constantly evolving, growing and willing to try new technologies and techniques, as long as we meet the business's needs.

We want someone who is eager to learn and help others but can also take on a project independently and be just fine. Our team supports each other and understands not everyone is the same - some of us are great at CI/CD development, some of us are wizards at SQL, and others just love Plain Old Ruby - meaning although we expect you to work the full-stack, we also understand if you prefer to work in one area more than another.

This position has quite a large pay range. We will evaluate throughout the recruiting process where we see you best falling in that range. If you meet just the minimum requirements, you'll likely fall on the lower end. If you meet minimum plus some preferred, you'll be more in the middle. If you're a candidate who can pretty much check every box, you'll find yourself at the higher end of this scale.

How to Apply:

Please apply through the link below. It's a coding job, so showing us some code would be helpful. Preferably a flavor of Ruby or Javascript, but anything for now will do. We like to see where your passion lies so these could be side projects, big or small.

What's in a title?

Here at Corporate Tools we don't take titles very seriously. We know for recruiting purposes we need to call our jobs something, so we started with labeling and differentiating them in a fairly traditional way with "junior, mid, senior". However, we've realized that was putting our employees in a box and wasn't allowing us to uniquely identify their individual contributions, strengths and professional goals. Once you join our team the titles kinda get dropped as we expect everyone to work with everyone regardless of title or experience. We have taken the approach of evaluating candidates and employees on a "level" basis. It makes it a little easier internally to talk about growing into the next level without there being this huge chasm between what it means to be a Junior Engineer vs. a Mid Engineer. Our levels have expectations set for each one and it's the responsibility of the manager and employee to make sure there is alignment. We do this through quarterly conversations where we discuss employee progression, if the work is challenging, and to ensure they feel fairly compensated for their work and expertise. Basically, levels gives us more flexibility to help people grow in their careers. But sure, you can post your title on LinkedIn as what makes sense to the rest of the world.

Wage:

$90,000 - $140,000/year DOE

Benefits:
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental and vision for employees
  • Annual review with raise option
  • 22 days Paid Time Off accrued annually, and 4 holidays
    • After 3 years, PTO increases to 29 days. Employees transition to flexible time off after 5 years with the company-not accrued, not capped, take time off when you want
    • The 4 holidays are: New Year's Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day
  • Paid Maternity and Paternity Leave
  • Up to 6% company matching 401(k) with no vesting period
  • Quarterly allowance
    • Use to make your remote work set up more comfortable, for continuing education classes, a plant for your desk, coffee for your coworker, a massage for yourself. really, whatever
  • Open concept office with friendly coworkers
  • Creative environment where you can make a difference
  • No dumb benefits like free dog walking on the weekends that snobby hipster places have to make you feel cool, but mathematically won't cost the company much money because you won't use it
  • Trail Mix Bar oh yeah
Responsibilities:
  • Be a good human
  • Develop Software with Ruby, Javascript, and willing to learn and help out with our AWS infrastructure
  • Learn Ruby and Rails
  • Help us consistently release high-end software
  • Contribute with bugs, and smaller parts of large projects
  • Help design and build high traffic applications in Ruby on Rails
  • Help peel off monolith Plain Old Ruby code into well-organized Ruby on Rails code
  • Help design and build novel systems from scratch
  • Have a Growth Mindset, not a Fixed Mindset
Requirements:
  • BS in Computer Science or relevant experience
  • 2-4 years professional experience with full stack application development
  • 2+ years experience with front-end web development, HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Experience with Vue, Angular or React
  • 2+ years experience with another web frameworks like Rails, Laravel, Django, Express, Ember, Backbone etc
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure and relational databases in production environment
  • Experience with CI/CD, Docker, or similar tools
  • You bring some weird or quirky new aspect of living and humanity to our workforce
  • Experience being project/tech lead as well as mentoring other engineers
  • 4-5 years experience with designing, building, and maintaining Web application, preferably the front-end and back-end
  • 2-3 years experience with Vue, Angular or React
  • Experience building, scaling, and optimizing cloud infrastructure and relational databases in production environment. Preferably with AWS: ECS, EC2, ECR, S3, RDS and Route53

Job Description

Embedded in a lean data team at a privately held $11 billion bank, the Analytics Engineer turns disparate data into a single source of truth that drives revenue growth, expense discipline, and risk management. Partnering with data engineers, you architect reusable models that align deposits, loans, and operational metrics to executive KPIs. Rigorous testing, documentation, and peer review make these assets dependable enough for regulators yet agile enough for daily forecasting. Workshops and clear guides empower business, operations, and financial analysts to run their own analyses without IT intervention. Ultimately, you transform raw data into confident decisions that protect the bank and propel its strategy.

Essential Functions:

  • Model & Transform – Translate user stories into data-model designs, then write SQL / Python / dbt transformations that turn raw core-banking, lending, and operational feeds into governed, reusable assets (Fabric semantic models, data marts, SQL views, AS tabular models).
  • Engineer with Rigor – Apply software-engineering best practices—Git branching, pull-request code reviews, automated unit/integration tests, and CI/CD pipelines—to guarantee every dataset is versioned, auditable, and production-
  • Partner & Plan – Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Data Engineers on ingestion architecture and with business stakeholders to refine acceptance criteria, ensuring models answer the right questions at the right granularity.
  • Monitor & Remediate – Implement data-quality tests and real-time alerts so freshness, accuracy, and uptime meet expectations; troubleshoot incidents end-to-
  • Enable Self-Service – Coach financial, business, and operations analysts on BI tools and storytelling best practices; create workshops, playbooks, and template dashboards that raise data literacy across the bank.
  • Govern & Document – Contribute to business glossaries, data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, and Purview catalogs so every field is traceable from source to report and compliant with FFIEC/FDIC expectations.
  • Continuously Improve – Lead retrospectives to refine delivery methodology, evaluate emerging tooling (e.g., Fabric Copilot, dbt-Mesh, Data Contracts), and pursue certifications or training that keep the team ahead of industry trends.
Situational Functions:
  • Perform ad-hoc/statistical analyses and present insights to decision-
  • Design lightweight workflow automations (Power Automate / Power Apps) where data pipelines intersect business processes.
  • Estimate solution cost, effort, and complexity for new initiatives.
  • Enforce and help evolve IT standards, controls, and Secure SDLC procedures.
  • Participate in special projects, compliance reviews, and risk assessments as assigned.
  • Stay current through conferences, research, and peer learning; share findings with the team.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
Required Skills:
  • Education & Experience – Bachelor’s in Data Analytics, MIS, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent professional experience; 3 + years delivering production data models or pipelines.
  • SQL & Data Modeling – Expert at writing performant SQL (T-SQL or ANSI), dimensional modeling, and building semantic layers (Fabric, SSAS Tabular, or dbt).
  • Version Control & CI/CD – Daily Git workflow (branching, PR review) plus automated testing and deployment via Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar.
  • BI & Visualization – Strong Power BI skills (DAX, model optimization, role-based security); ability to translate business questions into dashboards and reports.
  • Quality & Monitoring – Experience with data-quality tests, lineage tools, and alerting to maintain high-uptime, audit-ready pipelines.
  • Cloud & Orchestration – Exposure to Azure Fabric, Synapse, Databricks, ADF, or comparable cloud data platforms.
  • Soft Skills – Proven ability to prioritize multiple initiatives, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and thrive under tight deadlines in a regulated environment.
Preferred Skills:
  • Banking / FinTech Domain – Familiarity with data structures, payment, credit and other functions relating to financial services.
  • Programming & Scripting – Proficiency in Python for data transformation, orchestration, or testing.
  • Workflow Automation – Power Automate, Power Apps, or other low-code tools to streamline business processes.
  • Programming & APIs – REST API integration, basic .NET or JavaScript/Node for niche automation needs.
  • Methodologies – Experience working in Agile/Scrum, story point estimation, and writing clear acceptance criteria.
  • Professional Development – Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer, dbt Certified Developer or Azure Data Engineer).
