About the Role:
As an Automation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in our fulfillment centers by providing proactive controls automation and technical support. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting complex control systems, analyzing performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) systems and implement innovative projects. You'll work with state-of-the-art technology, including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices and programs. Through your efforts, you'll directly contribute to ensuring our customers receive their orders with Amazon's signature speed and accuracy.

Key job responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the site expert for maintaining the automation systems that are critical for operations
- Collaborate with building Operations, Operations Engineering teams, FC Start-up Team, AFT Software teams, ACES team, and Safety in supporting MHE systems optimization and project implementation
- Understand, maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems
- Monitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations to address system performance issues and provide analysis across all operations
- Provide first-level escalation support for site technicians, both locally and remotely
- Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes to drive continuous improvement
- Perform and analyze building System Assessments to enhance material handling system performance
- Communicate technical issues and project timelines clearly to building managers, operations staff and maintenance teams

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent, or 2+ years of PLC programming or automation engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent, or 2+ years of professional or military experience

The applicable base salary range for this role is $87,800 to $153,700.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

**Position Overview:**
Located in Breinigsville, PA our high volume, 24/7 manufacturing facility produces products to enable fiber optic communication expansion. As a Wafer Fab Process Engineer, you will develop, improve and sustain wafer fab processes including photolithography, dry etch, wet etch and thin film deposition processes for Indium Phosphide laser and detector device manufacturing. You will be responsible for installing robust equipment and process solutions through rigorous characterization and statistical validation before ramping them into high-volume manufacturing.
**Responsibilities:**
Develop, improve, and sustain wafer fab processes including photolithography, RIE/ICP dry etch, wet etch and thin film deposition processes for high volume photonic integrated circuit manufacturing.
Provide technical leadership in improving, and maintaining processed and equipment.
Identify, select and start up new equipment; optimize hardware and software. Collaborate with equipment vendors and other manufacturing engineers at Broadcom to drive fab performance and capability.
Conduct design of experiments (DOE), data analysis, failure analysis, and yield improvement. Take ownership and lead projects to develop/qualify new processes and tools. Complete projects on time and within budget
Create and optimize standard operating procedures and drive continuous improvement
Maintain and improve quality management standard including creating and reviewing control plans and SPC charts for robust quality control.

Hands-on semiconductor wafer manufacturing experience, preferably from an InP semiconductor production environment or compound semiconductor manufacturing environment
Direct experience in metals evaporation, RIE/ICP, wet chemistry, thin film deposition or photolithography in a manufacturing environment
Familiar with material & process characterization methods
Experience in using SPC, DOE, Lean manufacturing methods, and JMP experience.
Strong structured problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills
Ability to work outside of normal business hours

The annual base salary range for this position is $91,000 - $146,000
This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.

**Summary of Tasks to be Performed:**
Candidate will be responsible for:
+ Design and characterization of state-of-the-art high power, narrow linewidth, wavelength tunable and high speed InP optoelectronic devices.
+ Organization and execution of product development projects from concept to manufacturing.
+ Leadership of multi-disciplinary wafer fabrication, testing, assembly and operations teams to define and execute projects.
+ Qualification of optoelectronic devices per Telcordia standards.
+ Documentation of product designs and manufacturing processes.
+ Analysis of product performance and implementation of yield improvement plans.
**Competencies Required:**
Candidate must have:
+ A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field.
+ At least 7 years' direct experience in the design and characterization of high power and high speed III-V edge-emitting semiconductor devices.
+ Extensive theoretical and experimental knowledge of III-V semiconductor material properties, epitaxial growth and wafer fabrication processes.
+ Direct experience with DC, RF and digital transmission testing of high-speed optoelectronic devices and systems.
+ Demonstrated leadership ability to organize and execute product development projects involving multiple teams across a variety of disciplines.
**Skills preferred:**
+ Direct experience in process development and wafer fabrication of III-V semiconductor devices, including photolithography, thin-film deposition, wet and dry etching techniques.
+ Experience using commercial photonic and RF design software packages.
+ Experience applying statistical analysis techniques and process control in a manufacturing environment.
