Motiv is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Director to work on HV/LV systems for Motiv Electric Truck programs. The Electrical Engineering Director leads Motiv's electrical engineering department, focusing on developing and implementing advanced electrical systems across vehicle platforms. They are responsible for driving the strategic direction and technical execution of electrical and electronic systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and alignment with the company's goals.

Our ideal candidate must have a high degree of technical competence, written and verbal communication skills, and be comfortable working independently or collaboratively. A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar is required – a master's degree in engineering would be a plus. We are looking for candidates with 10+ years of OEM, or Tier 1 experience, preferably on HEV, PHEV, or BEV platforms. The candidate must have over five years of experience in a leadership role with 5, or more, direct reports. Additionally, the candidate must have experience working in structured engineering process including definition of requirements and objective function, concept creation, market analysis for components, analyzing options, and making final engineering decisions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers, providing mentorship, setting goals, and fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Develop and execute an electrical engineering roadmap aligned with company objectives, product development goals, and emerging automotive trends.
• Partner with cross-functional teams, including product development, software, and mechanical engineering, to ensure seamless integration of electrical components into vehicle designs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Technical Oversight & Innovation:
  • Oversee the design and development of electrical systems and components, including wiring, control modules, sensors, and charging infrastructure.
  • Implement cutting-edge technology solutions, such as electric vehicle (EV) powertrains, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and autonomous driving capabilities.
  • Ensure electrical systems meet automotive standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 26262, SAE standards), prioritizing safety, reliability and performance.
  • Drive innovation within the team by fostering R&D initiatives and staying updated on advancements in automotive electronics, embedded systems, and high-voltage systems.

• Project Management:
  • Manage the full lifecycle of electrical engineering projects, from concept through design, testing, validation, and production.
  • Ensure project milestones, timelines, and budgets are met, with regular updates to senior management on project progress.
  • Collaborate with program management to optimize project prioritization, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Budget responsibility for the Electrical Engineering Department.

• Stakeholder Communication:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical engineering in discussions with other departments and external partners.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders, providing guidance on electrical system capabilities and limitations.
  • Engage in business development activities when necessary, offering technical expertise in customer and partner meetings.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar – master's degree a plus
• 10+ years of OEM or Tier 1 experience, preferably on HEV, PHEV, or BEV platforms
• 5+ years of experience in a leadership role with 5+ direct reports
• Knowledge of high voltage electrical systems
• Experience working in structured engineering process including definition of requirements and objective function, concept creation, market analysis for components, analyzing options, and making final engineering decisions.
  • Experience with Bill of Material and Change Management Systems
  • Strong knowledge of automotive product development systems and design disciplines
• Self-starting and ready to work with a small team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Able to work in shop environments when needed to support physical testing, bench tests and vehicle builds
• Flexibility to work in Factory environments, wearing PPE
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Salary Range:

• $195,000.00-$230,000.00 (Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and training.)

The responsibility of the Engineering Manager is to give the plant the overall guidance in Engineering and Maintenance, to oversee the layout of the plant as necessary and improve all process, to give guidance and help solve the different design and engineering issues associated with the lines and the customers, to manage the local program, launch requirements as relates to all future programs. The main missions of the role are:

• Give guidance to the Engineering Department along with the Engineers assigned to Production
• Give guidance to maintenance
• Check work order reports to actual DT for comparison and improvement
• Create improvement plans for maintenance and engineering based on DT reports

• Develop staff by setting goals, create and implement training plans, present feedback as needed
• Oversee engineering changes and orders
• Maintain TRS standards for all lines. Identify where lines do not meet standards and help to either change the standards or fix the lines to meet the standards
• Understand and calculate DLE and DLP. Assist production with countermeasures to ensure improvements
• Maintain a plan to improve the plant up time for all machinery to achieve standards
• Identify all non-standard operations for the plant and a process to eliminate
• Maintain the bill of materials for all products and ensure they are kept updated and current
• Ensure safety and quality standards are met throughout the plant
• Prepare and analyze month end reporting with corrective action plans
• Coach team members in TS16949 and enforce standards

• Participate in 5 S, implement 5S improvements
• Participate in Hoshin and Continuous Improvement Events as assigned by management
• Participate in and promote the goals of the Ideas Improvement Program

Qualifications:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Engineering Technician will coordinate on project engineering and design; product/process research; field technical support; and support of the utility system. The incumbent will gather and track standards and manual feedback, and work on special projects as assigned. Support department process and change management and frequently coordinate with other internal departments on assigned tasks and projects.

POSITION LOCATION

* The Engineering Technician position will be based in our Livonia or Howell, MI service center. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate. Approximately 20% travel within the Michigan service areas will be required based on business needs.
* This position is in the Gas Engineering Planning & Supply (GEP&S) / Gas Engineering & Planning (GEP) / Distribution Pipeline Engineering (DPE) department and will report to the DPE Design Supervisor. DPE is responsible for designing and preparing Gas Distribution Pipeline work orders for the construction of major system improvement work. This includes Civic Gas Main and Service Relocations, System Augments, Enhanced Infrastructure Replacement Projects, New Business projects, Further Actions Notifications, and other programs that support the goals and objectives of the Gas Engineering Planning & Supply (GEP&S) department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Support Storm Restoration activities when called upon
* Support special assignments that may not be directly related to project work. Examples might include odorize engineer, field support engineer, specifications and process development, etc.
* Complete on-the-job learning and development via learning modules, standard review, and mentorship via senior engineer
* Perform field visits and work with field operations, as needed
* Provide engineering support and consultation to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, schedules, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation
* Understand and follow existing, and create new, department standards and procedures. Become familiar with plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project, and be able to utilize the information appropriately
* Support and administer the maintenance of configured infrastructure to meet current utility needs. This includes implementing levels, specialized components, and custom reports
* Meet with third-party supporting firms and general contractor representatives to provide standards and collect feedback on a recurring basis to ensure up-to-date understanding and compliance
* Read and interpret utility industry standards, drawings, and device specification/data sheets, and apply them to a working environment
