Role Summary


We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join the Argo Engineering team. The Argo team empowers Cloudflare's Connectivity Cloud by giving our products fast, reliable, and easy connectivity from our massive global network. They develop and operate the network software infrastructure that makes up the Argo Smart Routing, Argo for Packets, and Orpheus products.


As an Engineering Manager you will lead this distributed team of passionate and talented Software Engineers. You will play a key role in developing the team and shaping its culture and technical vision. You will work closely with Product Managers and other Engineering leaders to communicate the vision, prioritize the team's roadmap, and achieve cross-functional objectives.

Role Responsibilities



  • Hire, mentor, and coach a distributed team of Software Engineers.

  • Work closely with Product and Engineering stakeholders to prioritize, plan, and execute work.

  • Make use of tools and processes to convey project status and resolve blockages.

  • Understand technical implications of work in order to influence scope, work across teams, and help unblock projects.

  • Take responsibility for production services by organizing on-call rotations, handling customer escalations, and overseeing incident response and follow-up.


Role Requirements



  • 3+ years experience as an Engineering Manager for a team of Software Engineers.

  • Demonstrate a track record of managing a team including hiring, onboarding, and professional development. You inspire your team to reach higher. You're as good as explaining why as you are how.

  • Excel at planning and overseeing execution to meet commitments and deliver with predictability.

  • Technical background in Layer 3 and Layer 4 networking.

  • Experience programming in systems languages such as Rust and Go.

  • Experience implementing tools, process, internal instrumentation, methodologies and resolving blockages.

  • Clarity in written and verbal communication.


Bonus Points



  • Proven systems programming skills in Rust.

  • Experience managing teams and products responsible for critical infrastructure.

The Structural Heart and Aortic operating unit offers minimally invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We are focused on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the bodys largest artery, the aorta.

The Process Development/Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager is directly involved in providing leadership and direction to the Process Development Engineering team ensuring the implementation of strategic and tactical functional activities supporting the Structural Heart and Aortic Business Operating unit.

A Day in the Life

  • Guide, grow, develop, and coach the Process Development (PD) Engineering team responsible for the design and development of processes in the manufacture of transcatheter bioprosthetic heart valves.
  • Lead and support Talent Management within the Engineering group by developing the technical capabilities, project management skills and overall skill sets of the team to ensure that on-going and future strategic business needs are met.
  • Ensure that PD engineering staff are motivated and engaged through the process of regular coaching and performance acceleration, and that development plans meet individual and group development needs in alignment with the demands of the business.
  • Monitor and evaluate actual performance versus plan and determine improvements to drive enhanced performance and department effectiveness.
  • Grow and nurture cross site and cross functional relationships in a large, multi-site, matrixed organization.
  • Drive functional excellence in process development, including process characterization, and transfer to commercial manufacturing with a focus on porcine and bovine tissue manufacturing processing.
  • Drive functional excellence through the innovation of new technologies and processes to support next generation designs and novel applications in the bioprosthetic heart valve space.
  • Develop and promote DRM and Design For Operations (DFO) expertise within the PD Engineering group and champion the deployment of these practices.
  • Partner with R&D and Operations Network Engineering to align group skills and capabilities with NPD strategies and future process technology needs.
  • Participate at department management level and build strong peer relationships
  • Collaborate with core teams to establish objectives and evaluate the progress of direct reports

Key Skills & Experience

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R.
  • 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience.
  • Requires experience developing and validating manufacturing processes for porcine and bovine tissue heart valves (TMV, IQ, OQ, and PQ)
  • Requires a history of successfully transferring projects to manufacturing in a process development role
  • Build rapport with peers across other functions and sites.
  • Proven people management skills with previous experience in a people leadership position is a distinct advantage
  • Excellent team building, communication, and leadership skills are desirable
  • Effectively able to handle multiple priorities
  • Six-sigma/Design for Six Sigma, DRM training; Statistical Analysis skills via Minitab (DOE and other statistical analysis).
  • Proven ability to influence across multiple geographic sites and functional areas

Education

Working with the VP of Development, this San Diego, CA based Director of Technology Development will lead a team responsible for the ongoing management, enhancements, and new development of OEM solution initiatives supporting the Automotive Agency practice, specifically within the Enterprise Reporting area.

We are looking for a technology leader to bring innovation and strong development practices in the support of and creation of reporting and analytic applications. This position will manage a team of onshore and offshore employees and contractors through the delivery of an initiatives roadmap and be a leader of architectural design to meet the needs of our client programs.

Keys to success for this role will be the candidates ability to work cooperatively with an eco-system of internal partners including Product Management, Production Support, and Analytics. This will require the Director of Technology Development to have strong collaborative instincts, strategic experience and confidence in architectural and delivery decision-making. Importantly, the Director will also need to demonstrable experience in bringing to market with success complex, integrated, Automotive solutions.

What Youll Achieve
  • Building and integrating systems and solutions to meet the companys needs including a focus on our cloud initiative.
  • Management responsibility for team members and contractors and oversee the development of more junior team members.
  • Assessing the systems architecture currently in place and working with technical staff to recommend solutions to improve it

  • Support development efforts within the group and resolve technical problems as they arise. This includes conceptual design, sizing and pricing, project plan development, proof-of-concept development, implementation and monitoring.
  • Lead implementation teams to ensure quality, completeness and timeliness of solution delivery.
  • Accountable for resource planning and management as well as monitoring and optimizing staff and delivery scope against prioritized targets.
  • Scope and plan required application/database infrastructure needs to support client engagements and monitor the delivery of requested infrastructure deployments.
  • Act as the initial contact for the project delivery teams regarding significant operational issues and challenges.
  • Manage offshore development team, and knowledgeable around driving cost savings/efficiencies via offshore team.
  • Stay abreast of latest technology trends and Epsilons product offerings to integrate into planning efforts, business development efforts and overall client technology roadmaps.
