Distribution Engineer or Designer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Distribution Engineer or Designer to provide detailed engineering, design, and planning assessments. You will evaluate system operations and develop project scopes for overhead and underground utility systems, ensuring they align with utility standards.
This is a remote opportunity with site travel 2-3 times per week around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.
Responsibilities
+ Provide detailed engineering, design, and planning assessments and recommendations.
+ Evaluate system operations and develop project scopes for overhead and underground utility systems.
+ Design overhead and underground replacements per utility standards.
+ Develop and modify accurate estimates and engineering drawings using BlueBeam, AutoCAD, and GIS software.
+ Meet with managers, engineers, and colleagues to review project status and determine communication strategies.
+ Visit site plans to assess existing utility conditions and gather necessary information for each project.
+ Coordinate right-of-way acquisition, planning, and design functions through regular project updates to ensure schedule adherence.
+ Work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with potential for overtime.
+ Perform additional duties as needed or assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Structural, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering required for the Engineer role.
+ 1-2+ years of experience in engineering, with a preference for electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
+ Experience with SAP or Smallworld software.
+ Design experience with Xcel.
+ Knowledge of distribution engineering software tools such as ARMS, JETS, DETS, CYME, and DISTGIS/ArcMap.
+ Working knowledge of overhead and underground fiber optic and telecommunication distribution.
+ Experience in writing switching orders.
+ Ability to write business correspondence and communicate effectively.
+ Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and permitting agencies.
+ Strong operational planning and interpersonal skills.
+ Proficiency in general computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join a strong team of technical and business professionals in our municipal engineering team. This position will be directly supervised by a Licensed Engineer. As a Municipal EIT, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects, including the design of civil and municipal engineering projects for highways and local roads, public utilities and public works, parks, trails, and related infrastructure projects. This position involves working collaboratively with design teams in the development of construction plans and specifications; preparing reports, studies, and construction contract documents; computing quantities and preparing cost estimates; performing field observations and assisting in the coordination and management of construction activities. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure project design and field objectives are met.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support a team in the development of civil designs, preparation of plans and specifications, reports and other technical tasks on projects under the supervision of a Project Manager or Project Engineer.
- Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Perform field work/construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer/designer and/or construction manager as needed.
- Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and written, with project team members, clients, and contractors.
- Analyze proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, sustainability, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Utilize three-dimensional technologies and modeling software in development, design and analysis of civil systems.
- Compute and review cost estimates for project feasibility, budgeting, and value engineering opportunities.
- Collect and analysis data and perform calculations that support civil system design decisions and development process.
- Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
