**The Role at a Glance**
As an Actuary on the Life Financial Strategy team, you will lead strategic initiatives that support the enterprise's foundational capital goals. This role involves deep collaboration across Valuation, M&A, Investments, Reinsurance, and other key areas to assess and optimize the Life in-force block. You will provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership, helping shape the financial trajectory of the Life business.
**What you'll be doing**
**Strategic Analysis & Execution**
-Assess the value and capitalization of the Life in-force block.
-Evaluate reinsurance opportunities and enhance analytical tools.
**Cross-functional Collaboration**
-Partner with Modeling, Valuation, FP&A, and other teams to ensure model accuracy.
-Build strong relationships across departments to drive initiatives forward.
**Communication & Leadership**
-Present findings to senior management and key stakeholders.
-Serve as a subject matter expert during project implementation.
-Identify new strategic opportunities aligned with enterprise goals.
**What we're looking for**
**_Must have:_**
-4 Year/Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) (Minimum Required)
-7+ years of actuarial experience with actuarial credentials (FSA or ASA with additional years of experience)
-Experience in reviewing and assessing the appropriateness of complex models
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
-Substantial life product (UL/VUL/IUL/Term) knowledge and general insurance business knowledge
-Strong understanding of regulatory and accounting frameworks (Stat/GAAP/Tax/RBC)
-Proven ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
**_Nice to have:_**
-Experience working with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau)
-Experience in actuarial modeling and/or valuation experience in MG-ALFA

The pay range for this position is $108,501 - $195,900 with **anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range** and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. **ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES**

These integrated economic models include scenario modelling and other integrated economic exercises that arise around potential changes in reimbursement rates, member volumes, or other financial metrics associated with strategic initiatives and the financial plan. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating the completion of the strategic scenarios, analyzing the results, suggesting alternative approaches and presenting them to varying levels of senior management for approval.These integrated economic models, specifically the scenario modeling, serve as an input to the Highmark Health strategic and financial plan.
+ Direct the end-to-end program to support the Enterprise Strategic Initiative Roadmap, drive prioritized vetting of business cases for the Enterprise Capital Committee, and communicate results to senior management. Specifically, lead efforts around business case development, capital / operating expense deployment across Highmark Health's footprint to support strategic initiative prioritization and capital plan development. This accountability includes gathering information on new / existing initiatives, managing the financial planning process, and prioritizing the list of initiatives on a quarterly basis in conjunction with business performance.Also oversee the monthly tracking and reporting of initiative financial progress across the Enterprise and actively manage capital capacity boundaries. + Prepare and present financial (business case) analysis of corporate initiatives to senior management for use in the strategic planning process and daily management of the business activities of the Corporation. This accountability involves working with the business owners (SVPs and VPs) of the corporate strategic initiatives to obtain the data necessary to complete analysis of expenditures, cash flows, and return and risk to the Corporation associated with each initiative, and presenting findings. Also prepare postmortem analysis on launched initiatives in order to evaluate performance in partnership with Treasury and related business units.
+ Drive and own the Enterprise Capital Committee executive process including review of business cases, approval of the initiatives, regular updates on the Enterprise Strategic Initiative Roadmap, and enforcing governance policies as needed within the roadmap and related activities.
+ Direct the monthly reporting of the provider partner/affiliate results to executive management, including the Highmark Health EVPs, CFO and Finance SVP/VP.Manage the integration of affiliate budgets and forecasts into the Enterprise financial plan. Track, forecast, evaluate, and escalate capital needs, affiliate performance challenges or opportunities, and business case outcomes to executive management.

**About the program**
The Finance Strategy MBA Leadership Development Program consists of a summer associate internship program and a full-time associate program within the Finance Division. Roles provide program participants exciting, significant, and ambitious work with an encouraging leadership team committed to their professional growth and development.
The project-based summer internship is typically ~10 weeks long and provides rising second year MBAs relevant finance experience, insight into the multifaceted airline industry, and a chance to create valuable contributions through revenue improvements and cost savings projects.
Program participants are offered numerous opportunities to learn about their functional areas as well as other parts of the organization. MBA Associates are encouraged to attend speaker events with company executives to gain insight into high level company strategy as well as gain exposure to senior leadership. Furthermore, several classroom and virtual training sessions are offered for continual development and growth of skills.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
+ Current MBA Student
+ Candidates must have completed the first year of an MBA Program with a concentration in Finance, Economics, Strategy, Supply Chain or another analytical field by the Summer of 2026
+ Must have a planned MBA program graduation date by the Summer of 2027
+ At least three years (36 months) of post-undergraduate, full-time work or relevant military experience prior to enrolling in business school

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Provide consultation through rebate contract interpretation and strategic opportunity identification
+ Mentor Advisors and Lead Analysts to help support department training needs
+ Meet directly with large and most complex custom clients to review modeling and cultivate relationships with Formulary Decision Makers (i.e. Pharmacy Directors, VP's, etc.).
+ Evaluate client data, create scenarios, and provide expert formulary modeling and guidance for existing clients in alignment with department strategic objectives that drive value to both clients and ESI.
+ Collaborate with Clinical Account Executives to create strategy for Custom Clients based on formulary scenarios, rebate offerings, and modeling options.
+ In collaboration with Clinical Account Executives discuss with clients any potential utilization management programs under evaluation to ensure that all modeling and requirements of these programs are accurately represented and in alignment with Pharmaceutical rebate contract.
+ Analyze the financial impact of client requested formulary changes to both the client and Express Scripts.
+ Create presentations for client formulary strategy and/or consulting meetings including all supporting documentation.
+ Strategize with cross-functional areas of Express Scripts, including but not limited to Account Management, Pricing, Product, and Finance.
+ Lead interdepartmental team calls as required to discuss rebate invoicing eligibility terms/conditions.
+ Effectively document and communicate formulary analysis projects. (i.e., model maintenance and QC).
+ Ensures optimization of work processes for formulary modeling strategies and achievement of department goals
**QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Finance strongly preferred
+ Healthcare or related area/MBA a plus
+ 3+ years' relevant work experience
+ Strong Leadership, Detail Oriented Organizational, and Analytical skills
+ Excellent PC skills - including Excel, PowerPoint and MS Access
+ Financial modeling experience
+ Familiarity with pharmaceutical rebate contracts a plus
+ Proven ability to work in a fast paced - ever changing environment
+ Excellent relationship building and cross functional skills
+ Ability to travel approximately 10%.
