Overview SOSi is seeking a Spanish Linguist to join our team supporting all duties assigned to communicate and translate within our customer's requirements. Essential Job Duties All Linguists will be capable of satisfactorily performing various linguistic functions and duties throughout a shift as described below for monitoring, organizing, categorizing, translating, transcribing, interpreting, performing quality control, and validating services. Linguists will be responsible for monitoring varying numbers of communication intercepts during any given shift. The Linguist will listen to oral and/or electronic communication intercepts or other digital media in English and in foreign languages and provide an immediate oral summary in English, followed by a hand-written or typed (as instructed by the Linguistic Supervisor) summary in English in a format specified by the customer. The Linguist shall review the summary for accuracy. The Linguist will operate equipment such as directed by the customer, to include recording and playback equipment, televisions, computers, digital T2S2 systems and/or other equipment as required. The Linguist will prepare a summary of each intercept to include, but not limited to, a hand written or typed synopsis (gist) in English that is grammatically correct; date and time of recording; and other relevant information as instructed by the Linguistic Supervisor. The Linguist will correctly identify the conversant(s) through use of a voice library and/or from the context of the conversation. The Linguist will enter the summary into a digital medium when required. The Linguist will sign all gists, summary logs, or documents that are prepared as may be required. The Linguist will digitally initial all files, transcripts, translations or other work products, which is to be witnessed by another person as may be required. The Linguist will maintain a list of slang words and codes used by the conversants for the duration of the communications intercept. The Linguist will prepare digital copies for storage, as directed by the COR for all intercepted communication. The Linguist will perform administrative duties related to the above duties, such as arranging log sheets, gists, and/or summaries into binders and/or file folders; copying and assembling related paperwork and reporting. Linguists will have the ability to understand the specific tasks being processed and produced. Linguists will understand and comply with all Court regulations concerning minimization procedures. The Translator/Transcriber shall prepare an English translation and/or transcription from a variety of English or foreign language source exhibits including, but not limited to, audio and video cassette; recorded conversations; facsimile documents; handwritten and/or typed materials such as legal documents, diaries, computerized printouts; computer disks; personal paper; maps; charts; ledgers; and notes. Material to be translated and/or transcribed shall be determined by the COR and assigned to the linguist through the Linguistic Supervisor. The Translator/Transcriber shall correctly identify the conversant(s) through use of a voice library and/or from the context of the conversation. The Translator/Transcriber shall type all transcripts unless instructed to hand write a transcript. The Translator/Transcriber shall type in the foreign language, in English or both verbatim, free of typographical errors, and without the omission of a word or words (the words spoken on the source recording, or the words written on the source document). The transcript shall be in a format specified by the customer. A source document may be a map, chart, or other type of written information. The Translator/Transcriber shall utilize a format closely resembling the original document if the original document is a source document such as a map, chart or other type of written information. The Translator/Transcriber shall utilize correct grammar and punctuation in all English transcripts. The Translator/Transcriber's Linguistic Supervisor shall provide the COR with a printed typed copy of the transcript and the computer media in a time frame established by the COR. The Translator/Transcriber shall enter a file title that is a combination of the intercept identification number, the call number, and any other unique identifier prescribed by the customer onto the printed transcript. The Translator/Transcriber shall perform administrative duties related to the tasking, such as arranging gists and/or summaries into binders and/or file folders; copying and assembling related paperwork. The Translator/Transcriber shall have the ability to understand the specific tasks being processed and /or produced. Interpreter Duties The Interpreter shall orally and consecutively interpret a foreign into English and English into a foreign language. The Interpreter shall make notes of the interpretation and provide notes to the Linguistic Supervisor or COR, as requested. Validation Duties A Linguist, other than the Linguist performing the original work, shall validate a transcript by comparing the completed transcript and/or translation to the source media (such as cassette recording, compact disks, MO Disk, or documents) to ensure that the final work is verbatim, and that the translation presents a true rendering in English. The Linguist who conducted the validation shall sign a statement on the final document attesting to the accuracy of the final work. Minimum Requirements Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance. Bachelor's Degree or a minimum of 4 years of combined work and educational experience. Candidate must successfully undergo and pass a language assessment in the four main categories: speaking, listening, reading, and writing in both native tongue and English. Additional Linguist requirements are as follows: Excellent command of the English language and have the ability to provide clear, concise, oral and written communications. Skills necessary to listen to and comprehend a foreign language with native or near-native ability, and to follow accurately the basic elements of conversation, whether written or verbal. **Responsibilities**

+ Produce high-quality translations that are indistinguishable from native compositions in the target language, addressing complex concepts and terminology.

**Qualifications**
+ United States Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
+ Eighteen (18) years of age or older.
+ Proficient in grammar with strong written communication skills in English and the target foreign language(s).
+ Must achieve fluency certifications in English and the target foreign language(s) as per standards set by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR), or the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) within six months of security approval.

Overview SOS International LLC (SOSi) is seeking a Foreign Language Translators in a variety of languages including Spanish, Arabic, Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cantonese, Foochow, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Jamaican Patois, Laotian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Tagalog, Urdu, and Vietnamese in MULTIPLE LOCATIONS ACROSS THE US. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a full range of activities in processing material or participating in situations requiring advanced understanding of the required vernacular or language (you chose) including summarization, translation, and transcription source materials obtained from government agencies investigations on an as needed basis. Essential Job Duties Monitoring, translating, transcribing, interpreting, performing quality control and validating services. Providing reliable and accurate transcriptions, translation, or interceptions and/or summaries of source materials or intercepts into English. Capable of performing multi-functional duties; i.e., when not intercepting, the linguist shall transcribe or translate source materials/documents and/or perform quality control functions on documents/materials completed by other linguists. At the Government's expense, attend sponsored training pertaining to the operation and upgrade of specific equipment and software utilized by our client. The equipment and software may include audio recording machines, computerized word processor/data management software and other pertinent equipment determined necessary by our client. Perform, as required, administrative duties related to tasks. Such duties may include but are not limited to placing log sheets, line sheets, duplicating tapes and/or summaries into binders, copying and stapling related paperwork, and labeling storage boxes. Attend minimization briefings conducted by the U.S. Attorney's Office and our client. Understand and comply with Court regulations concerning minimization procedures. Testify in court as "Fact Witness" if required by our client and U.S. District Attorney's office attesting to the accuracy and validity of the work completed by the linguist. Prepare transcriptions of a variety of source exhibits including, but not limited to, video and audio recorded conversations, documents as well as written typed materials such as legal documents, diaries, computerized files, personal papers, maps, charts, ledgers, emails, and internet-based communications or social media (WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger). Minimum Requirements Must be able to obtain and maintain a Law Enforcement Sensitive clearance, based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI). HS diploma or equivalent training and education. A minimum of four (4) years combined work and educational experience in translating, interpreting, or other work requiring the use of English and another language at the native or near-native level. Applicant must undergo or provide proof that you have successfully completed a language proficiency testing at the minimum proficiency level standards required in the contract at a rating of 3 or above in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Excellent command of the English language and have the ability to provide clear, concise, oral, and written communications. Skills necessary to listen to and comprehend a foreign language with native or near-native ability, and to follow accurately the basic elements of conversation, whether written or verbal. Skills necessary to read and comprehend a foreign language with a native or near-native ability, and to read and understand various text-types. Ability to comprehend slang and colloquial expressions in a foreign language and translate them into their English equivalent. A sufficiently broad vocabulary in English that paraphrasing or explaining is unnecessary. Ability to work well under pressure to meet specific deadlines. A minimum of 40 wpm typing/word processing skills. The Government may waive the basic typing skill proficiency level under extenuating circumstances. The COR will evaluate the circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Ability to understand the specific tasks being processed and produced. Ability to effectively understand face-to-face speech with sufficiently broad vocabulary that paraphrasing, or explanations are unnecessary. Work Environment Must be willing to work weekends. **Responsibilities:**
Provides bilingual translation services to the target language or to Limited English Proficient (LEP) throughout the University for patients, their families and others.
The Spanish Translator provides written translation services for all clinical and professional University of Rochester Medical Center staff, patients, and family members/significant others. The Spanish Translator performs the duties of a Spanish Interpreter as needed. Services are generally provided for the Medical Center, Outpatient Clinics, and Hospital Affiliates.
Responsibilites:
Translation duties:
Independently analyzes source materials for translation into target language for clinical and non-clinical documents utilized across URMC's diverse and numerous clinical specialties in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Manages and tracks projects and requests for document translation services at URMC.
- The Translator carefully analyzes and comprehends source document material to develop a target language rendition of the material taking into consideration the target audience and any linguistic, cultural, formatting, or spacing challenges (font, structure, etc.) or limitations.
- Translates all assignments within designated timelines. Materials include informed consents, patient education, medication schedules, intake forms, discharge instructions, and other documents vital to patient care/experience and URMC operations.
- Converts text from English to target language cross-referencing specialized dictionaries and style guides as appropriate.
- Consults with requester, subject matter experts, and/or supervisor on parameters, requirements, and best practices for translation projects.
- Proofreads and reviews new and previously translated documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, grammar and quality.
- Utilizes translation tools and software to optimize efficiency.
- Maintains archive of digital copies containing original and translated texts.
- Follows up with supervisor and/or service requesters as needed to assess if translation needs were met.
Interpretation duties:
Manages flow of communication autonomously and efficiently between source and target language during medical and non-medical healthcare encounters across URMC's diverse and numerous clinical specialties in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Interprets all assignments, whether ad hoc or prescheduled, in a timely and professional manner in accordance with hospital policy
- Weighs the goals of each encounter in collaboration with clinical healthcare providers and non-clinical staff to determine the situational context of the patient interaction.
- Chooses appropriate communication ground rules and methods, informs all parties of the role of the interpreter, and briefs healthcare professionals on any knowledge possessed by the interpreter regarding the patient or encounter.
- Assesses and recommends most effective communication method for patients with barriers to communication, altered mental status, or other special communication needs. Verifies patient's preferred language is correctly identified.
- Selects appropriate mode for optimal flow of communication (consecutive, simultaneous, sight+translation).
- Proposes most suitable service delivery modality (in+person, video, telephone) based on the needs of the patient, and in the event of unforeseen communication barriers.
- Debriefs with healthcare professionals after the encounter, as necessary, to optimize the understanding of the conversational content and provide linguistic and cultural insights.
- Monitors for linguistic misunderstandings where they exist and recommends adjustments to level of formality and style as needed.
- Provides remote interpretation support for telemedicine visits, conference calls, patient voicemails, and all program operations.
Interpretation duties:
Supports cultural responsiveness by assessing for cross-cultural impact on communication (verbal and written) between patients and healthcare providers during highly complex interpersonal encounters
- Monitors for cultural misunderstandings where they exist and devises appropriate intervention as needed to empower the patient to participate in decisions related to their care
- Intervenes by confirming with all parties if a possible cultural misunderstanding has occurred by culturally mediating order to avoid assumptions, disrespect, or immediate harm
- Facilitates the understanding of cultural differences and promotes direct communication to build trust and enhance patient satisfaction
- Informs patients of available supports as appropriate (Social Worker, Case Manager, Care Coordinator, Financial Coordinator, Chaplain, etc.)
- Promotes inclusive and equitable communication during interactions with all parties.
Contributes as integral member of clinical and non-clinical healthcare teams as the specialist in language and culture
- Provides interdisciplinary education to all team members for effective communication, as needed, during encounters, patient trainings and teachings

- Identifies service needs based on patient/provider dynamics, best practices, and effective communication, and informs program leadership of recommendations for service enhancements
Applies established national healthcare interpreter code of ethics and standards of practice. Adheres to Joint Commission Standards, department policies, safety protocols and infection control standards, and completes service provision documentation in electronic medical record
- Discloses and justifies any potential limitations, conflicts or need for recusal appropriately and timely

Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred

- Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, clinical tests, and procedures in working languages required.
- Strong customer service and communication skills required.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office suite and word processing programs used for document translation required.
- Completion of 40-hour training course in medical interpreting or equivalent experience required.
- Certification in healthcare interpreting through CCHI or IMIA strongly preferred at time of hire or within 18 months of hire preferred.
