**Job Summary**
The Safety Manager is responsible for acting as the Safety Management professional conducting safety inspections, observations, investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance for OSHA, DOT, and EPA. The Safety Manager evaluates and assesses the probability and severity of loss events and accidents which may result from actual or potential hazards.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and support creation of a strategy of safety and compliance strategic goals.
+ Ensure site management has the appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, managers, and supervisors, in order to drive the safety culture, compliance, and results.
+ Supervise, lead, and mentor company-wide safety and compliance support staff.
+ Develop effective safety and compliance programs and policies designed to meet operational goals to reduce injuries and incidents.
+ Communicate safety and compliance strategy and objectives to leadership.
+ Support site management in the implementation of safety and compliance programs or policies.
+ Design and implement effective metrics to track progress, proactively identify areas of concern, and drive accountability.
+ Design and execute a broad program such as electrical safety, air quality, industrial hygiene, driving safety, back injury prevention, heat & cold stress, injury illness prevention, first aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen plan, flagger, and confined spaces.
+ Coordinate safety drills to transfer knowledge and core competencies to management and employees.
+ Develop and implement audit tracks and identify gaps in local compliance with corporate safety policies and procedures.
+ Lead incident investigation process, including cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans.
+ Provide supervisor and management training on root cause analysis.
+ Assist site management in ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.
+ Monitor, interpret and communicate regulatory changes to management.
+ Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
+ Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
Qualifications
**Minimum**
+ Minimum 10 years of electric construction or safety-related work experience in increasing roles of responsibilities (or a combination of operations, safety, training experience).
+ Minimum 2-3 years of Safety Management or Supervisory experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Current and valid state Driver's license.
+ Must have working knowledge of the electrical utility construction and/or electrical industry.
+ Ability to think strategically and provide strong leadership.
+ Must have the ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for projects plans
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and electronic Safety Data Management Systems
+ Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
+ Ability to interact effectively with senior and executive leadership and to maintain confidentiality of business-strategic information.
+ Capability to respond to extended storm response duties away from the normally assigned area of safety management oversight.
**Preferred**
+ Associate or Bachelor's degree in related field of study.
+ OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications.
+ Authorized OSHA Outreach Instructor.
+ Recognized certified credentialing demonstrating safety proficiency:
+ Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
+ Associate Safety Professional (ASP).

**The Job You Will Perform:**
**Safety Culture & Compliance**
+ Lead Safety Excellence initiative for plant
+ Responsible for leading systems, processes and procedures that promote a positive safety culture which results in an injury free and healthy workplace. Collaborate with local leadership to execute on all local, state, federal regulatory HSE requirements and company HSE programs. This position reports directly to the Site Manager and will work functionally with regional HSE staff.

**Incident & Risk Management**
+ Lead incident investigations, incidents, and near-misses; complete investigation files, develop corrective action plans and manage worker's compensation process working closely with the HR Coordinator.
+ Lead deliberate improvement efforts to improve HSE performance
+ Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective/preventive actions.
+ Maintain incident reports and documentation.
**Monitoring and Auditing**
+ Conduct all required site inspections.

**Emergency Preparedness**
+ Develop, implement and maintain emergency response plans.
+ Organize drills, response training, and safety exercises.
