Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify inefficiencies, waste, and areas for improvement.

- Develop and establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for various manufacturing processes.

- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on project status, findings, and recommendations for management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an Industrial Engineer, with a strong focus on Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Proven experience in implementing Lean tools and methodologies in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in process mapping, time studies, and statistical analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus).
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for layout design.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

About the role

Leidos' Defense Systems Manufacturing Segment is seeking an Industrial Engineer (IE) to join our Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) Team located in Huntsville, AL.
As an Industrial Engineer (IE) you will be focusing on designing, improving, and optimizing systems and processes within the IFPC program primarily to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality while reducing costs. This can involve designing new systems, implementing improvements into existing systems, or implementing new technologies. IEs work with complex systems involving people, machines, information, and materials. IEs analyze processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and identify areas of improvement. This position will utilize a wide range of knowledge including statistical analyses, operations research, human factors, and logistics. This position will require frequent coordination with Planning & Production Control, Manufacturing Engineers, and Operations Leads.
This position will report to the Manufacturing Program Manager and will exercise substantial decision-making authority for non-recurring and recurring manufacturing planning.

Primary Responsibilities
The IE would partner with the Manufacturing Program Manager and with other teammates at multiple manufacturing sites to do the following:

Document the current program planning scenario(s).
-
Develop and maintain capacity analyses.
-
Document multi-year facility plans for the program.
-
Support the development or management of technical capabilities, process roadmaps, and manufacturing strategies to meet key customer requirements including both internal and external customers.
-
Assist the site manufacturing teams with the development, justification, and execution of long-range plans to meet program objectives. This will include production launch activities, plant layouts, and engineering change control activities.
-
Assist in evaluation of capacity planning for fabrication, machining, weld, paint, and assembly equipment and processes to ensure ability to meet takt time and customer requirements.

Identify, prioritize, and implement solutions for process improvement opportunities including application of lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, root cause analysis, time studies, and problem-solving techniques.

Fostering an environment of continuous improvement through sharing of best practices within all manufacturing sites.

Identify opportunities for improvement based on current program execution.
-
Create detailed flowcharts or diagrams to visualize the current product flow through multiple stages of production and analyze the flow to identify bottlenecks, delays, and inefficiencies that may hinder production.

Develop strategies to refine processes and improve the workflow, ensuring that materials and products move smoothly from one stage to the next.

Conduct time and motion studies to identify inefficiencies in production processes.

Develop and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce cycle times by using Lean Manufacturing principles (such as yamazumi charts) and Six Sigma methodologies.

Analyze production capacity and develop strategies to improve resource allocation, including both personnel & equipment to ensure that manufacturing capabilities align with customer demand.

Design and improve workstations to improve ergonomics and efficiency.

Work with the site quality team to develop and implement quality control measures into standard work.

Use of MES software (Solumina) to implement, track, monitor, and control manufacturing processes, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance.

Identify and execute on continuous improvement projects.
-
Identify and reduce risks in the production processes.
-
Overseeing & optimizing the production process, from raw materials to finished products, to ensure efficiency and quality.

Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Operations Leads, and Inventory Control.
Basic Qualifications
-
BS degree in Industrial Engineering or Industrial and Systems Engineering with at least 4 years of prior relevant experience or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or Industrial and Systems Engineering with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Must be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Experience in assembly manufacturing environments

Four or more years of factory flow and process modeling and simulations experience

Four or more years of experience leading continuous improvement and value stream mapping events

Candidate must have experience in industrial/manufacturing engineering functional support teams for Defense, Aerospace, Space or Commercial projects with an understanding of industrial/manufacturing engineering and quality requirements for such projects.

Technical experience in the creation of manufacturing strategies including make/buy decisions, equipment requirements, process definition, work area layout, tooling requirements, takt time evaluation, and capacity planning.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Software and AutoCAD.

Strong analytic skills and a high degree of proficiency in data mining.

Exceptional with Excel, manual data analysis and other data mining tools (Python, R, SQL).
