Zayo is seeking a Director of Critical Infrastructure Engineering to be a strong technical leader overseeing a team of highly technical engineers responsible for all aspects of Zayo's facilities' power, cooling, and related physical infrastructure supporting Zayo's world class network. Within this group, team members support all aspects of the lifecycle of this infrastructure - from standards definition and reference architecture design, deployment, and finally through equipment lifecycle management. The team is also responsible for overseeing the long term - permanent repair and/or replacement of failed infrastructure as escalated from our Service Assurance organization.
The Director of Critical Infrastructure Engineering will lead complex solutioning with cross functional alignment, maintain strong and predictable productivity from team members, and ensure solutions are deployed to the quality and standards required. A strong candidate will be able to demonstrate past experience and ability to manage Zayo's Critical Infrastructure Roadmap and forecasted budget for each year. As a senior leader, the Director will support training and development of team members to foster Zayo's next generation of amazing leaders.
*We're open to this position working remotely within the United States; however, preference will be given to those in the Denver, CO metro area, who are able to work in a hybrid capacity (2 days/week in office - 1401 Wynkoop).
Responsibilities
Core Competencies:
- Provide leadership, vision and direct oversight for infrastructure engineering teams and people managers in the design and deployment of Zayo's data center infrastructure.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering teams, encouraging professional development and skill enhancement.
- Drive deployment of multiple strategic projects including infrastructure build outs, capability enablement, market optimization, and data integrity.
- Directly support cross functional teams by providing leadership and prioritization, removing roadblocks, and implement process and system improvements to improve efficiency.
- Develop and document program operation for all initiatives. Provide regular reporting on performance.
- Manage vendors as needed to provide products and services needed to perform groups' activities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements to inform strategic decisions and engineering practices.
- Act as a point of escalation for equipment installation, day to day operational problems that require immediate solutions and decisions.
- Enforce contractors' compliance with Zayo and Bellcore standards and specifications by performing inspection and quality control of power equipment installations. Verify contractor/subcontractor construction adhere to Zayo, Bellcore, and National Electrical Code standards.
- Oversee the design and implementation of infrastructure projects needed to develop Zayo's network infrastructure.
- Identify infrastructure dependencies and own the implementation of needed facilities to ensure capacity is maintained.
- Define capacity management standards and best practices. Work closely with engineering and ISP teams to evaluate existing AC and DC power plant capacity for complex projects.
- Develop and implement standards and tooling to improve delivery efficiency, visibility, and performance of Zayo's network.
- Collaborate with supporting organizations (field technicians, OSP, ISP, etc) to quickly and correctly execute critical dependencies for timely delivery of services.
- Execute against Zayo's capacity planning strategy to ensure sufficient network capacity is available for service installations and to meet evolving customer demands.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align network plans with business objectives and market demands.
- Execute against Zayo's equipment lifecycle strategy, focusing on replacing end-of-life network infrastructure with modern, high-performing components to enhance overall network and service performance.
- Work closely with supporting teams to identify and mitigate potential threats to the network infrastructure or issues impacting ability to effectively operate / maintain the network.
- Collaborate with product development teams to align network enhancements with product offerings and customer requirements.
- Ensure timely execution of network projects in accordance with the established roadmap.
- Maintain capital forecasts for planned network projects based on measured run rates and calculated exhaust dates of capacity.
- Monitor and control expenditures throughout the project lifecycle to ensure projects stay on budget.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in telecom infrastructure engineering, with at least 6 years in a leadership role in a datacenter environment or supporting network critical systems.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
- Proven expertise in the design and deployment of power systems and data center infrastructure.
- Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable plans.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Financial acumen and experience managing budgets for large-scale network projects.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
