Well-established law firm is seeking a motivated Legal Assistant to support multiple attorneys within their growing immigration practice.

Responsibilities:
This role supports case preparation, communication, and administrative tasks including:

  • Drafting, formatting, and organizing a variety of immigration filings, including H-1B, TN, L-1, O-1, R-1, E-3, H-1B1, and I-140 petitions (both employer- and self-sponsored)
  • Coordinating directly with clients and government agencies to gather documentation and follow up on case progress
  • Managing attorneys’ calendars, scheduling appointments, and coordinating travel as needed /li>
  • Preparing and finalizing correspondence, memos, forms, and other legal documentation
  • Processing and maintaining physical and electronic case files, including scanning, uploading, and database entry
  • Assisting with timekeeping and billing processes, including monthly edits and expense report preparation
  • Answering phone calls, routing inquiries appropriately, and responding to client questions with professionalism and discretion
  • Supporting internal record keeping systems and CRM tools

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of legal administrative experience, ideally with exposure to immigration law
  • High school diploma required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with immigration case management software (e.g., LawLogix) is a plus
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Team-oriented with a proactive, service-minded approach
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in work product
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines

3. Proficiency in using ATS to manage and track immigration cases.
4. A strong understanding of human resources principles, including talent acquisition and compliance.
5. Certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is a plus.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff.
7. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines concurrently.
8. High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
9. A proactive approach, with the ability to anticipate potential issues and develop effective solutions.
10. Bachelor's degree in Law, Human Resources, or related field.

  • Collect and organize account and matter data; facilitate knowledge-sharing among attorneys, clients and firm professional staff; and communicate progress, shifts to timelines or budgets, and any recommended adjustments to key stakeholders.
  • Advise and facilitate the development of legal project management tools, resources and technologies, including software, templates, checklists, databases, workflows, and forms.
  • Identify, prioritize and execute process improvement projects.
  • Quantify and record risks in projects including mitigation strategies.
  • Research historical matters and prepare analysis to inform and compare budget proposals. Build a database of quantitative and qualitative data related to historical matters/budgets to enhance future pricing accuracy.
  • Document and maintain detailed records of procedures, assumptions, methodologies, and sources of information used in analysis.
  • Continually work to improve and ensure quality and accuracy of work product.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications and Competencies

The Legal Project Management Analyst must have a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.  2+ years of project management experience, preferably within a law firm or legal department in addition to a working knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles and terminology, with general knowledge of the legal services business. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, is required. Advanced Excel proficiency, including experience with pivot tables and advanced formulas is preferred. Experience with SharePoint, database management, data presentation software, SQL, and Power BI (or Tableau or similar data visualization technologies) is a plus. Ability to connect report data and statistics with business outcomes for analysis and forecasting. Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills, demonstrating confidence in explaining complex concepts to professionals of different backgrounds. Has the ability to work independently and maintain flexibility with respect to assigned tasks due to changing deadlines and deliverables. What You'll Do


As aDevelopment Paralegal you'll :


Under the general supervision of the Affordable Housing Closing Manager, assist in the development and closing of affordable housing projects for national nonprofit affordable housing developer, owner and operator.


TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Provide necessary support to Development Department in order to achieve quality, timely Income Housing Tax Credit ("LIHTC") and FHA mortgage applications.


JOB SPECIFICATION SHEET-Paralegal submission of housing development funding applications, including but not limited to:

2) Assist in the closing process to meet critical deadlines. Duties include, but are not limited to:

a) Coordinate timely submission of due diligence to lenders, investors, and closing parties.

b) Facilitate review of title, survey, and insurance documents.

c) Securing and distributing executed documents and closing binders in timely manner; and

d) Ensure full compliance with corporate document management and storage protocols.

3) Take a leadership role in managing critical document files pursuant to corporate document

management and storage protocols.

4) Take a leadership role in administering and managing online document management system

with internal and external users.

5) Assist in the timely submission of reports as required by funding providers post-closing.

6) Promote and participate as an active and supportive member of the National ChurchResidences Development team.

Other duties as assigned.

Education: Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.

Licensure: Paralegal Certification and/or Juris Doctor required.

Experience:


Three (3) years paralegal or legal experience required. Development, real estate,

affordable housing finance, corporate, nonprofit, and/or government experience preferred but not required.


Location:

Must have the ability to work out of an office in Columbus, Ohio.

JOB PURPOSE AND OVERVIEW

The Franklin County Municipal Court is the largest and busiest municipal court in the State of Ohio. The Court has fourteen judges in the General Division and one judge in the Environmental Division. Judges preside over civil, criminal, and traffic cases and conduct both jury and court trials. The Court's jurisdiction includes traffic cases, misdemeanor criminal cases, and civil cases where the amount at issue is $15,000 or less. The Environmental Division has exclusive jurisdiction to enforce local codes and regulations affecting real property, such as fire and building codes. The geographic jurisdiction of the Court is all of Franklin County and those portions of the City of Columbus that extend beyond the boundaries of Franklin County. Despite its jurisdiction and name, the Franklin County Municipal Court is the judicial branch of the City of Columbus government.

The Court Reporters' Department is authorized to have 8 full-time and 4 part-time court reporters, who are assigned to different courtrooms on a rotating basis. Court reporters make a verbatim record of court proceedings, prepare a transcript from the record of court proceedings upon request and maintain records of exhibits introduced at court proceedings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
  1. Take a verbatim record of court proceedings.
  2. Maintain stenographic notes and exhibits introduced at court proceedings.
  3. Prepare transcripts from stenographic notes when requested.
  4. Answer telephones and retrieve file information for callers.
  5. Assist with projects as assigned by the Chief Court Reporter or the Court Administrator.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned and may be assigned temporarily to other positions in other departments of the Court if needed
  7. This position involves a significant amount of sitting for extended periods.
  8. Candidates must be able to hear and see sufficiently to take accurate notes of all proceedings and must be able to lift to 25 pounds. Court reporters may occasionally be required to work past 5:00 p.m.
Required equipment is provided by the Court including Luminex II Writer, a desktop computer, laptop computer and Eclipse software.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  1. High school diploma or a certificate of its equivalent.
  2. Graduation from an accredited court reporting school.
  3. Ability to take and transcribe oral testimony at 225 words per minute and a jury charge at 200 words per minute.
  4. Ability to hook up and write real time proficiently.
  5. Proficiency in operating a personal computer and using, or being able to learn, Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  6. Requires considerable knowledge of legal terminology and English vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  7. Knowledge of common office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  8. Ability to prioritize work and work independently without daily supervision.
  9. Must have good time-management skills and be highly organized and detail-oriented.
  10. Ability to communicate verbally effectively and professionally and in writing in English to diverse audiences.
  11. Pleasant personality and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with judges, other elected officials, Court employees, law enforcement officers, lawyers, outside agencies, businesses, and the general public.
  12. Must be conscious of and sensitive to the diversity within the Court's jurisdiction and be able to interact professionally with this diverse population of people from many different geographic, socioeconomic, religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds regularly.
  13. Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for the position and expected of a representative of elected officials.
  14. Demonstrated dependability, reliability, and excellent attendance record.
  15. Patience, objectivity, maturity, effectiveness under stress, initiative, adaptability, leadership, and sound judgment.


Additional consideration will be given to individuals who have any of the following qualifications: previous experience as a court reporter; possession of a Registered Professional Reporter's Certificate from the National Court Reporters Association; the ability to speak and write Spanish or a language commonly used by people of Somalia for whom English is a second language; or proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).

COURT EXPECTATIONS OF EMPLOYEE

The court expects the employee will adhere to all court policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures in completing the duties and responsibilities of the position; act as a role model both inside and outside the court; perform duties as workload necessitates in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and be conscientious about meeting department productivity standards; and communicate regularly with supervisor about department issues.
