The Falck Cancer Center located in Elmira, NY is looking to add a warm, qualified, and dedicated Medical Oncology APP (PA/NP) to the team.
Full Time position available. Monday through Friday, primarily daytime hours. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with an established ambulatory oncology team. Responsibilities include direct patient care in the ambulatory clinic and provider coverage of the onsite infusion center. Much of the care includes new patient evaluations and management of acute illness, symptoms management, coordination of palliative care services and patient/family education.
Candidates must have excellent communication skills with proven ability in exercising independent judgment and initiative. Must be NYS eligible for NP or PA certification. NYS License and DEA required. Experienced providers preferred but new grads are encouraged to apply.

- Responsible for taking patient history and obtain vital signs
- Perform basic testing or screenings such as: vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, pulmonary function testing
- Perform necessary phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples
- Accurately complete corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue and culture samples
- Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels
- Insure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave
- Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients
- Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D's and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation
- Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA)
- Ensures equipment is in working order
- Logs laboratory procedures when completed, processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed
- Maintains examination rooms and stocks necessary medical supplies
- Performs duties to ensure good patient flow
- Registration duties: explain to patients what insurances that are accepted and those that are out of network as well knowledgeable of all pricing - Properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner
- Accompanies the provider to the bedside
- Accurately and thoroughly documents the patient medical history, physical exam, and procedures
- Completes transcription as requested
- Performs tasks to improve provider efficiency during the course of a shift
- Greets and registers patients
- Answers and appropriately triages phone calls

DescriptionMAIN FUNCTION:Assist with providing quality patient care, by performing assigned duties and specified patient care activities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. To assist in establishing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships with patients, families, health care personnel, and other departments. The Patient Care Technician assists with the care of the mildly, chronic, and acutely ill patients. As a Patient Care Technician, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and the accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. **The Emergency PCT floats to other departments if needed when the emergency department is not busy.**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Follows work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing or performing tasks. 2. Performs all tasks in accordance with established policy/procedures and instructed by Charge Nurse.3. Performs routine patient care which includes:a. Bathing b. Mouth Care c. Hair Care d. Toileting Assistance 4. Promotes patient comfort to include:a. Positioning, lifting and transfers b. Ambulation c. Answering call lights d. Assisting with emotional needs 5. Performs and records the following specimen collection:a. Obtain blood specimens b. The Emergency PCT Only will perform point of care testing to include but not limited to: glucometer, Hemocue, I-STAT (excluding ABG and Troponin), urine dip-stick, saliva alcohol swabs, urine and serum pregnancy test, rapid strep, stool occult-blood etc. (as per training and policy).c. Actively participates in the Process Improvement Program as required by the Laboratory and regulatory agencies 6. Observes and reports presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent decubitus ulcers.7. Assists with post mortem care. 8. Takes temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure and pulse oximetry as directed. 9. Discontinues foley catheters as directed in accordance with hospital standards. 10. Assists with dressing changes as directed in accordance with hospital standards. 11. Removes peripheral Saline Locks as directed in accordance with hospital standards. 12. Accurately records entries on the ADL sheet, Intake and Output sheet and vital signs record. 13. Reports all changes in patients' condition to the primary RN Charge Nurse or Nursing Supervisor. 14. Promotes adequate patient nutrition by assisting with meals and feeding patients. 15. Assists in the care of the patient in isolation. 16. Operates all equipment in a safe manner after receiving in-service on how to use the equipment.17. Identifies defective equipment and removes piece of equipment from service. And completes a work order.18. Follows policies and procedures related to Standard Precautions. 19. Assists Unit Director with inventory and stocking of unit supplies. 20. Will be cross-trained to cover Unit Clerk / Secretary duties and provide back-up as necessary.21. Attends and participates in Staff Unit meetings. 22. Utilizes proper body mechanics with patient lifting and transferring to prevent injury to self or patients.23. Presents self in a professional manner: - attire - attitude - presentation - communication - attendance 24. Accepts performance improvement suggestions, if applicable. 25. Essential Functions:
1. RESOURCE UTILIZATION: Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing and other services. 2. LEADERSHIP: Uses leadership principles to anticipate and influence change. Determines resources and actions needed to accomplish objectives. Sets priorities and manages time effectively. Identifies potential problems/opportunities and plans contingent action. Collaborates with the clinical manger / director and assistant clinical managers, clinical supervisors / clinical coordinators / charge nurses, patient care staff and informal leaders in these efforts. Seeks creative methods to resolve conflicts. Promotes multi-disciplinary care of the patient. Keep Clinical Manager / Director informed of clinical issues, triage problems, staffing issues, and risk management concerns.
