How you make a difference

The Nurse Practitioner(NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarceratedpatientsin accordance withestablished policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director ordesigneetomonitorthe provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director andH.S.A. andmake arrangementsfor coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extendedperiod of time.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducts routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and emergency treatment on-site.

• Adheres toestablishedpolicies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, adherence to formulary regimens, andutilizingavailable in-house resources for treatment.

• Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, while also reporting any concerns or questions to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator.

• Maintainspatient confidentiality and privacyin accordance withaccepted practices for incarcerated individuals.

• Providesinput into facility mandatory committees asrequested.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• A graduate of an accredited school of nursing

• An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience

• Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.

• Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmatepatientpopulation and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.

• Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.

Licenses/Certifications

• Must have andmaintaincurrent licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.

• Must have andmaintaincurrent CPR certification.

Job Summary Geisinger's Neuroscience Institute is seeking a physician assistant or nurse practitioner to join the neurology team at Geisinger Lewistown located in Lewistown, PA.
Job Duties

The ideal candidate will enjoy a full-time outpatient clinic position with no weekends and no call. The team sees a mix of general neurology and subspecialty neurology patients.

The successful Physician Assistant must be a graduate of a ARC-approved physician assistant program, eligible or certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants and eligible or certified by the State Board of Medicine.

The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners and must be eligible for or certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Must be certified to work with all patient population age groups.

Geisinger's Neuroscience Institute spans Geisinger's three main campuses in Danville, Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, along with locations in State College and Lewistown, Pennsylvania. Job SummaryIn collaboration with the physician, provides care to new or established patients. Demonstrates autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Orders testing as deemed necessary and remains proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medication and therapeutic regimen within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner. These roles, undertaken in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff, may include triage, telephone communication and patient education.
Job Duties
* Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.
* Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.
* Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
* Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.
* Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner license.
* Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
* Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.
* Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
