Position Responsibilities

- Informs and reports any unusual occurrences to the Chief Nurse Executive /designee and Administrator on-Call.
- Functions in the role of the Incident Commander during a Code Delta until relieved by the Administrator-on-Call.
- Manages and resolves all patient care issues in the absence of the Chief Nurse Executive/designee.
- Identifies problems, gathers sufficient data, analyzes data, and determines strategies to utilize for problem resolution. Contributes appropriately to quality improvement activities.
- Evaluates outcome of problem resolution to determine effectiveness.
- Supports development of staff by encouraging participation in educational programs.
- Identifies individual and unit educational needs for a specific shift on weekends and communicates to Nurse Managers/designee on Nursing Staff Development.
- Communicates staff deficiencies to the unit Nurse Manager.
- Provides periodic evaluation of staff to the unit Nurse Manager.
- Provides constructive guidance to staff for development of clinical expertise.
- Counsels employees in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
- Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with ancillary departmental staff.
- Establishes a positive work environment to achieve optimal patient care.
- Demonstrates effective and professional written and oral communication skills.
- Conveys unit information regarding patients, unit activity, staffing, and personnel problems to the Nurse Manager/designee daily.
- Provides recommendation to improve nursing work flows and efficiency.
- Performs all other related tasks as indicated by the Chief Nurse Executive/designee.
- Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma, and organ failure requiring transplantation.
Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring.
Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided.
Special equipment includes; radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators.
REQUIREMENTS
- Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred
- Experienced pediatric intensive care nurse of at least 2 years preferred
- Have a current registration or be for eligible Delaware State Board of Nursing Licensure.
Must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association. PALS preferred.

The provision of laboratory services by the performance of clinical laboratory procedures and related tasks.
- Performance of analytical procedures following Blood Bank Laboratory protocols. Supervision is not required for specimen processing, test performance, reporting results of procedures with documented training. In this function, must be able to perform all required calibration, quality control, statistical calculations and other process control and mathematical functions. Associate must also be able to understand Blood Bank concepts.
- Assigned laboratory responsibilities to manage monthly with follow up to the Supervisor.
- Participates as a member on inspection teams, for example, as part of the College of American Pathologists, AABB and/ or FDA. Orders, accessions, statuses and reports results of tests performed on patient specimens, monitoring a variety of critical clinical issues, such as patient identifiers, specimen quality, order appropriateness, etc. In this function, must be able to read and understand a variety of written material such as specimen requisitions, worksheets, patient identification, specimen requirements, etc., whether performing this task manually (e.g., on paper) or through the use of an information system. Must be able to check and verify information such as patient identification, lot numbers, expiration dates, etc., and act appropriately.
- Uses, calibrates and performs trouble-shooting and maintenance on laboratory equipment following established procedures, and as assigned by supervisor. Must be able to take responsibility for laboratory equipment performance.
- Receive and store Stem Cell Products and / or Human Tissue Allografts following appropriate procedures
- Reviews technical and administrative procedures as assigned. The medical technologist is responsible for staying informed about section changes, procedure changes and updates, etc.; procedures must be reviewed at least once every two years, and documented as per section protocols. Reviews questions about procedures with section supervisor or designee as needed, informing supervisor when confusion about instructions or procedures exists.
- Handles supply and inventory issues as required/assigned, identifying key technical parameters, such as lot numbers, storage requirements, etc. as required for performance of laboratory procedures. Follows laboratory section inventory procedures (e.g., recording date received, condition when received, checking order forms, invoices, etc.) Retrieves supplies, equipment from storage areas as needed.
- Answers telephone as assigned; in this function, interacts routinely with a variety of individuals, including physicians, and other clinical staff.
- Follows all laboratory and hospital safety policies (including, but not limited to chemical safety, e.g., the laboratory's Chemical Hygiene Plan, infection control policies, etc.). Must be able to perform functions using personal protective equipment and barrier protection, such as disposable gloves, laboratory coats, shields, goggles, etc. Must be able to handle a variety of hazardous materials, such as chemicals and pathogenic organisms. Job Description
Work Schedule: Part Time, 20 hours per week (40 hours per pay period) working combination of evening and weekend shifts.
The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing Magnetic Resonance studies while providing a quality health care service that includes total patient care in a comfortable, friendly environment. This position requires excellent communication skills due to required continuous interaction with public and professional/medical personnel. The MRI Technologist is responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of Nemours.
- Responsible for working knowledge and operation of GE and Siemens MR 1.5 and 3.0 Tesla Scanners and Advantage windows workstation.
- Knowledge of routine magnetic resonance imaging protocols along with performing patient examinations as set forth in the protocol by the designated radiologist.
- Provides accurate room preparation and instructions to patient/family according to the procedure and physically prepares patient for examination which includes explaining the imaging procedure and answering pertinent procedural questions.
- Responsible for the preparation, administration, and documentation of contrast media per departmental protocols under the direct supervision of a radiologist/physician. Observes patient for allergic reaction after administration of contrast.
- Responsible for screening of patients to be imaged for contraindications that may be hazardous to their health or to the safety of others.
- Assists radiologists by evaluating patients and obtaining written screening for administration of contrast media. Starts IVs and injects contrast material for imaging studies.
- Maintains work habits consistent with hospital and departmental policies, reports unsafe conditions and incidents to the immediate supervisor and demonstrates safe work habits. Operates hospital computer systems for patient data entry and retrieval/order entry and completion of study.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care with respect to the appropriate specific chronological age, developmental age or social maturity of the patient.
- Must have the ability to work well with others. Aids in the training of new personnel, students and physicians.
- Regular attendance is required, and this position is considered essential for purposes of staffing during severe weather emergencies and other natural disasters.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, must have reliable transportation and must be able to work on an on-call basis.
Job Requirements:
- Specialized (1 year of training beyond high school) required.
- Must be ARRT, ARMRIT registered MRI technologist or ARRT registered/MRI board certified within 18 months of employment or Associate or Bachelor Degree in Allied Health and certification with ARDMS or NMTCB required/MRI board certified within 18 months of employment or Recent Graduate who has successfully completed MRI program with 6 months of supervised MRI clinical scanning experience. New Graduate must be registry eligible for ARRT, ARDMS or NMTCB and must be registered in the area of their program permits within the first 90 days probationary period of employment. If primary area certification is not MRI, MRI board certified within 18 months of employment is required.
- Minimum of six (6) months experience required.
- BLS from the American Heart Association required upon hire.
- Pediatric MRI experience preferred.
