Job Summary:

Directs the management of Public Safety Department for Swedish Hospital and NorthShore Hospitals (Evanston, Skokie, Glenbrook, Highland Park) for Endeavor Health. Includes management of the Public Safety staff to ensure a safe and secure environment for employees, patients, and visitors throughout the buildings, campuses, and surrounding properties of Endeavor Health. Works to integrate safety and security with the strategic objectives of the health system as well as the mission vision and values.

This position is based at Swedish Hospital (5140 N. California Ave, Chicago, IL 60625) with regular (potentially multiple sites per day) visits to the NorthShore Hospital locations.

What you will do:

• Develops strategies for ensuring and enhancing the safety of patients, visitors, employees, physicians and volunteers throughout the system.

• Analyzes and evaluates systems, processes, and policies for their effectiveness in maintaining a safe environment at all locations.

• Works with other leaders to identify, address and resolve issues related to the safety of individuals and the protection of property throughout the system.

• Ensures that Public Safety are trained effectively and maintain competencies to fulfill the duties of their role.

• Develops, coaches, and evaluates skills and abilities of managers and supervisors.

Unique or Preferred Skills :

* Knowledge of relevant standards, equipment, policies, procedures and strategies including knowledge of Federal and State emergency management planning requirements, knowledge of the functions of FEMA, IEMA, IDPH, county and local EOC operations as they impact emergency preparedness.
* Must be able to interact effectively with all levels of staff, as well as community and government agencies.
* Must be able to write and speak effectively and possess effective negotiation skills to bring divergent views together and reconcile differences.
* Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service including meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer service.
* Knowledge of transmission and operation of a variety of communications systems to ensure effective interagency communication in an emergency situation.

The Public Safety Officer will provide property owners, guests, day visitors, contractors and employees with an exceptional guest service experience and greet all guests in a friendly, inviting and welcoming manner on a daily basis both in the village plaza and at individual residences. Respond to alarms and emergencies. Know and enforce all Beaver Creek rules, regulations and covenants for owners and guests staying in or visiting Beaver Creek. **The Public Safety Officer** will provide property owners, guests, day visitors, contractors and employees with an exceptional guest service experience and greet all guests in a friendly, inviting and welcoming manner on a daily basis both at the Main gate and at individual residences. Respond to alarms and emergencies. Know and enforce all Arrowhead rules, regulations and covenants for owners and guests staying in or visiting Arrowhead. Problem solving and sound decision making based on knowledge of the guidelines and procedures of Arrowhead. Provide and protect an atmosphere respecting the confidentiality and privacy of guests and property owners. Documentation of all that is done on your shift in a clear and concise manner. Working scheduled shifts (10 hours) and covering shifts at all hours, including overnight and holidays.
**Other duties include, but are not limited to:**
+ Answer calls and complaints, and giving pertinent information to property owners & guests
+ Analysis and resolution of difficult situations and conversations in a nonconfrontational manner
+ Observe the state or condition of the community (structures & activity surrounding) for unusual or hazardous conditions as well as reporting & aiding in the resolution of any problems
+ Coordinating efforts with other departments within the community to resolve troublesome situations.
+ Respond to residential & commercial alarms
+ Operation & familiarity of residential & commercial alarm panels and systems along with general knowledge of domestic water sensors and mechanical systems
+ Communicating with other Arrowhead departments & fellow AHPS staff in a clear, concise, and professional manner in both written and verbal form to ensure awareness of situations of concern
+ Proper documentaion of community incidents and general activity
+ Control access at main and remote gates
+ Maintaining traffic control and parking organization with the Arrowhead Skier Lot requiring standing, outside in cold weather for multiple hours
+ Patrol of the entire Arrowhead community both on foot or in a vehicle including the garage, village, and river areas
+ Cleaning AH vehicles and gate house (including bathroom)
+ Writing and issuing parking violations notices and directing the public in the proper use of parking spaces
+ Writing and issuing Arrowhead association violation notices
+ Use of Microsoft Office programs
+ Use of computerized and mechanical gate operation systems
+ Operation of secure key storage system and package delivery (involves lifting & carrying up to 50 lbs.)
+ Vehicle jumpstarts, unlocks and tow strap use
+ Snow removal (shovelling) from gate house and external gate areas
+ Safe operation of Pepper Ball launching bear deterrent equipment
+ Having or obtaining and maintaining CPR/First Aid certification
+ Providing and protecting an atmosphere respecting the confidentiality and privacy of guests and property owners
+ Proper and safe handling of AHPS vehicles and equipment as well as use of provided personal protective equipment
**Schedule - Four 10 hour shifts per week. This could include weekends and overnight shifts as needed.**

PSOs work under the general supervision of a civilian supervisor, sergeant, or other designated officer in charge. Specific duties may include: patrolling designated areas of the University by foot, bicycle, motor vehicle or other DOT approved method of transportation for suspicious and/or illegal behavior, safety hazards, unlocked doors, opportunities to assist the public, etc.; enforcing violations of the University's Parking Code; providing traffic control services and/or logistical support during emergencies and special events; providing first aid or CPR; standing a security post in a potentially dangerous location; and staffing the Operations Desk monitoring the daily security and event operations of DPS' field personnel. PSOs wear a uniform and a duty belt with limited gear; the position can require moderate to strenuous activity. The ideal candidate must be physically fit and able to adapt physically and psychologically to frequently changing needs and priorities.
