Job Description
The **Area Process Engineer** provides process technical expertise and services focused on enhancing the safety, reliability and profitability of the process units. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance, optimization, and technical service
**Responsibilities May Include:**
- Develop, monitor, and evaluate unit performance metrics
- Maintain effective monitoring reports
- Troubleshoot operational and process quality problems
- Generate and implement ideas/opportunities for unit optimization
- Develop process design improvement projects for strategic and real business improvement
- Participate as required in major project activities
- Provide technical content for operating procedures
- Complete process hazard analysis and process safety management requirements, including action items
- Ensure full management of change compliance with all activities
- Support catalyst management activities
- Maintain assigned process safety information
- Provide guidance to operations consistent with environmental and operational requirements
- Assist in preparation and maintenance of capital and operating expense budget
- Interface with Licensors for technical support
- Support unit turnarounds including work list identification/justification, procedure writing and reviews, equipment inspection
- Provide day-to-day support of the respective operating unit to meet short-term and long-term operating plans and the refinery business pla
**Required Qualifications**
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
- 1 or more years of relevant industry experience
- Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Must be willing and able to comply with the following:- Travel up to 5% of the time
- Occasional on-call duties
- Work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machine
- Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height
- Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
- Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
- Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment
- Maintain face daily for respirator/face mask sealing

The **Lake Charles Refinery** is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils. It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
