SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Engineering Interns to join our team. This internship offers hands-on experience in process improvement, data analysis, and operational efficiency projects. The ideal candidate will support ongoing initiatives to create and update work instructions, optimize workflows, reduce waste, and enhance productivity across our operations.

REPORTS TO (Title) : Operations Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in time studies, workflow analysis, and process mapping

  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement

  • Support the development and implementation of lean manufacturing initiatives

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve production efficiency and reduce costs

  • Help design and update standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and Kaizen events

  • Prepare reports, charts, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Job Accountabilities:
  • Create visual work instructions for products in order to standardize build processes and reduce training lead time
  • Perform time studies through direct observation and use data to balance one piece flow production lines, sub-assembly lines, and to find and remove inefficiencies
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to ensure efficiency of operations and cost effectiveness
  • Work with operators to create tool/parts holders to improve shop floor 5s and reduce damage to parts, improve ergonomics, and efficiency
  • Create and maintain Key Performance Indicators for production line
  • Promote Lean concepts throughout the facility
  • Determine, monitor and improve cycle times and implements processes, make sure production lines can meet TAKT times and rebalance, if necessary, find root cause of variability on production lines
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment, adhering to all Company policies and procedures
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of the Company's information and products
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned or requested
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required: preferred 20 hours per week during quarter/semester, fulltime during summer
Job Specifications:

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma/GED and at least two years schooling pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering

  • Financial acumen and understanding of metrics such as NPV, ROIC, IRR, and Payback Period - Required
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Experience in Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Solutions - Preferred

  • Sanmina is seeking highly motivated Co-Op candidates to join our team of Manufacturing Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial Engineers who help develop, and maintain these mission critical products
  • As a member of the Engineering team, you will get the opportunity to develop features and functionality across a broad range of engineering tasks
  • These products perform mission-critical tasks on some of the world's most advanced industrial applications
