A day in the life as a Plan Consultant The Plan Consultant at Innovative is crucial for client engagements, supporting Business Development Consultants during sales and managing technical aspects, participant education, and service once sold. They must have strong technical skills, planning, organization, and problem-solving abilities, and work independently. Essential Duties: Business Development / Sales Support: Manage and create pre-sale quoting presentations with Business Development Consultants. Support Sales Presentations to demonstrate Innovative's capabilities. Obtain and analyze quotes from service providers to ensure completeness and match client demographics. Prepare and collaborate on Sales Presentations. Client Enrollment: New Clients Coordinate Retirement Plan Open Enrollment and New Hire presentations for clients. Provide retirement readiness and financial planning advice to plan participants using available tools and programs. Manage individual insurance submission and underwriting. Client Retention: Existing Clients Support and conduct employee education meetings on financial wellness. Monitor investments in qualified plans for performance and changes. Handle wealth management and qualified plan inquiries independently. Prepare client annual reviews with or without business development consultants. Conduct periodic investment reviews under senior plan consultant's guidance. Implement process improvement systems and procedures. Benchmark plan fees and features and communicate analysis to clients. Experience: General professional knowledge of Investments, Qualified Plans and Insurance particularly the concepts and products relating to insurance and securities. Knowledge in the Retirement Plan, Employee Benefits, and/or Wealth Management areas. Series 7, General Securities Representative and Series 66, or Series 65. Job Description Summary
Provides educational and planning services to retirement clients virtually or in person. Responsible for plan promotion, participant education and managing education campaigns. Conducts in person or virtual group educational meetings and one-on-one counseling sessions with participants on retirement and investment needs. Provides guidance and transparency to participants on retirement product solutions. Responsible for generating leads and managing projects.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies and approaches to promote participant action toward a fully funded retirement; deliver on key plan metrics (i.e. retirement outlook, increase participant deferral rates, etc.).
  • Conduct group education meetings, deliver workshops, webinars, and enrollment meetings to achieve client and Transamerica goals.
  • Conduct one-on-one retirement planning meetings with client employees.
  • Use Transamerica products and services to help participants deliver a strategy to meet retirement objectives.
  • Provide participants with insight into the funds offered under each client plan, including fund objectives and performance.
  • Identify asset gathering and retention opportunities: make connections, as necessary, to the Transamerica Advice Center for consolidation through the retirement plan and IRA options.
  • Explain and ensure participants understand product options.
  • Work with participants with multi-product needs and connect with other product specialists as needed.
  • Document participant interactions and progress toward goals with timely entries to our CRM software.
  • Participate in projects for the expansion or enhancement of the Retirement Education and Planning Services Organization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent business experience.
  • FINRA Series 6 or 7.
  • FINRA Series 63 or obtain within six months.
  • Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) or Charted Retirement Plan Counselor (CRPC), or obtain within 12 months. Higher certification (e.g. CFP, CRC, CEBS, ChFC, CIMA, CRPS) acceptable in lieu of RPA or CRPC.
  • Three years of financial services or related experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Presentation skills to support the sales process.

Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at Company discretion.

This position is also currently eligible for sales and/or performance incentives. Specifics will be reflected in individual incentive plan documents.

The Retirement Plan Consultant will provide objective guidance that is aligned with the needs of plan sponsors and employees eligible for the applicable retirement savings plan. Incentive bonus opportunity is available based on factors including the achievement of pre-defined plan metrics and will also be evaluated on client satisfaction ratings.

About the role
  • Conduct individual and group presentations, in person or via video technology, to improve awareness of plan features and to grow plan assets. Presentations include enrollment meetings, age-based financial education meetings, and sophisticated financial literacy meetings as requested by the plan sponsor or determined by the applicable communication and education plan.
  • Actively participate in benefit fairs and new employee orientations.
  • Participate in the annual plan review and financial education planning process.
  • Assist Relationship Manager and/or District Vice President with targeted education campaigns to increase participation and deferral rates
  • Meet with participants and eligible employees to educate employees regarding plan participation.
  • Travel dependent on your territory may be required for new plan enrollments.

  • Conducts follow up calls to service issues and questions, de-escalating complex customer requests and providing outstanding care during resolution. Includes understanding topics that require insurance or securities license and registration and when and how to route those inquiries to the properly-registered representative.
  • Reviews and approves requests for withdrawal, exchanges, deposits, annuity purchases and contract cash-outs. Requests additional information when necessary.
  • Compiles management information such as contract and sold case activity as needed by internal management.
  • Communicates with customers, sales force, other departments, regional and/or field offices and other industry companies on topics that do not require insurance or securities licensing and registration. Collaborates and networks with outside business units to create innovative solutions for internal and external customers. Maintains appropriate records.Approves and processes business according to government regulations, contract provisions and internal procedures and controls.
  • Conducts in good order reviews or other applicable requests for servicing Nationwide policies and customers for withdrawal, exchanges, deposits, annuity purchases and contract cash-outs.
  • Helps with research for written responses to Nationwide formal complaints.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned. Collaborates with appropriate staff to design, document, and implement process improvements and best practices

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Operations Division Manager or Unit Manager.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: High school studies. Undergraduate studies desirable. Participation in technical coursework such as LOMA, CLU, ChFC desirable.

License/Certification/Designation: FINRA Series 6 license preferred, and may be required, based on assigned product/line-of-business or distribution system.

Experience: Four or more years of related work experience, including customer service experience, preferably with cross-functional business unit exposure. Customer service experience required.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of Nationwide's suite of financial products. Excellent verbal and written communications skills in order to manage relationships with internal and external customers. Strong analytical and problem resolution skills. Ability to research, analyze and solve problems, leveraging existing and innovative methodologies. Ability to understand, anticipate and proactively act on customer needs. Proven decision-making skills necessary for customer contacts. Ability to multi-task, independently manage work and establish priorities that conform to time, service and quality standards. Strong team-building and collaboration skills.
