**Shop Supervisor**
**Job Description**
Promote safety and excellent customer service in all activities. Assign shop staff work schedules and duties to maximize manpower. Prepare repair orders per company policy and complete scheduled preventive maintenance, tire changes, tractor/trailer/tank repairs. Issue Purchase Order numbers for the purchase of shop supplies and parts for repairs and inventory, label parts, and store parts on shelves in the Part Room. Contact vendors when trucks have roadside breakdowns, assist drivers with trailer prep for loads, and with problems that arise during deliveries. Maintain the shop in a clean, orderly, non-hazardous environment. Carry out other duties as assigned by the CSC Manager.

Under direction of the site Leadership, the Shop Supervisor directs the workflow of direct and indirect Production Hourly Team Members, leads in the Upfit or Service of high-quality products for the customer, and is responsible for driving continuous improvement while achieving expected safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.

The Nuts and Bolts

  • Maintain a safe work environment; respond to safety issues with urgency
  • Maintain work skills to facilitate job performance as a working member of the team, and to be aware of the required skills for team members
  • Train Team Members on required job functions
  • Assign work to each Team Member to maintain high productivity and skill levels
  • Establish quality standards to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Manage the work schedule to achieve delivery requirements to both internal and external customers
  • Coach & counsel employees as necessary
  • Participate in and support continuous improvement activities
  • Responsible for tracking key metrics; maintain daily boards; complete reporting (employee evaluations; time and attendance, safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and labor)
  • Participate in interview process for hourly technician candidates
  • May be required to handle, move, or perform administrative tasks involving Hazardous materials

Required Credentials

  • One (1) year of Supervisory experience leading an hourly skilled trade workforce
  • Three (3) years' experience in a customized operations setting such as truck equipment or up-fit industry
  • Welding certification and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; as well as excellent interpersonal service skills
  • Able to conduct employee training on topics such as safety, technical skills, products
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • The ability to collaborate with a multi-department team
  • Lifting 20+lbs may be required

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ 2nd Shift
+ Supervises machinists, fabricators and/or technicians through all phases of fabrication in accordance with established schedules. Offers guidance and coaching to fabrication personnel.
+ Participates in designing and building tooling needed for the fabrication process.
+ Manages and directs the activities of the machining and sheet metal function and other areas as assigned.
+ Reviews engineering drawings and fabrication planning for conformance in all mechanical engineering departments.
+ Applies knowledge of fabrication planning, scheduling of workload, tooling requirements and machine maintenance to ensure a smooth flow of work through the departments.
+ Evaluates and determines staffing requirements and technical capabilities of personnel within the function.
+ Participates in the selection, retention and development of personnel including interviewing, performance appraisals and promotion recommendations. Develops programs and procedures for the training of personnel.
+ Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
+ Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

**Job Qualifications:**
+ Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of an Associate's degree and six or more year's progressively complex experience in machining and supervision. Additional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

The Shop Supervisor is a key member of the store Management Team. This leader directly supervises Shop Mechanics, drives the shop program to deliver a best-in-class customer experience, and is responsible for delivering shop business results and achieving service goals. This role is directly responsible for building and leading the shop team, shop production management, shop facilities management, shop workforce management and completing production shop work to REI quality and productivity standards. The Shop Supervisor partners closely with the Store Manager and Regional Shop Specialist to develop and deploy store level shop strategy and tactics.
**Responsibilities and Qualifications**
Responsibilities:
+ Partner with the Store Manager to build accountability for driving business objectives of employee engagement, customer satisfaction, and promoting co-op membership through leading the customer and employee experience in shop service.
+ Proactively recruit and hire (internal and external) talent to maintain appropriate levels of trained employees to meet shop business need.
+ Train, certify, and build an engaged team of technicians to carry out shop service functions and provide excellent customer service. Coordinate production, manage throughput, and execute shop service work to meet customer demand and REI expectations.
+ Write a shop staff schedule, with consideration of labor guidance, that supports the current business trends and needs, and maximizes service across operating hours.
+ Identify and implement ways to improve the shop customer experience and shop workflow by continuously increasing productivity while maintaining or improving quality.
+ Manage risk to REI by ensuring all shop employees are trained and certified to the level of work they perform and ensure all work meets REI and manufacturer quality and safety specifications.
+ Build a diverse technical workforce and ensure an inclusive environment for shop employees.
+ Demonstrate initiative and productivity, lead Shop Mechanics, Service Advisors, and store staff.
+ Support REI's shop and membership programs by understanding, advocating for, and implementing business initiatives.
+ Evaluate Shop Mechanic job performance and deliver timely check ins/reviews.
