At Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), we're seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Principal to help lead and grow our Civil/Site Practice in the Toledo and surrounding areas. This is a high-impact leadership role for a driven professional who thrives on mentoring teams, building client relationships, and delivering exceptional results across a wide range of private and public sector projects.
You'll collaborate with senior management to shape the strategic direction of the practice-locally and regionally-while guiding clients through complex regulatory environments and ensuring technical excellence across every project phase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow the Civil/Site Practice through business development and client relationship management.
- Guide clients through planning, permitting, design, and construction processes.
- Oversee proposal development, project budgeting, and quality assurance.
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers and project managers.
- Conduct performance reviews and support staff development goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and professional development programs.
- 15+ years of experience;
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree;
- P.E. required (including registration in Ohio or the ability to obtain reciprocity);
- Technical design expertise, including site layout and test fits, grading, stormwater management, erosion & sedimentation control, and site utility design;
- Established client base;
- Established relationships with industry professionals and regulators;
- Proven experience in the management and development of a consulting engineering team; and
- Experience with varying types of private -sector projects such as commercial land development; renewable energy/power generation; industrial/manufacturing development; natural gas; public-sector projects for local and state agencies.
- Leadership roles within professional industry groups;
- In-depth understanding of local and state land development regulations and processes, including zoning, stormwater management, and erosion & sedimentation control;
- A portfolio or list of past projects outlining key design elements and your role in the projects; and
- Proven ability to build relationships, provide effective mentoring, and build team morale.

- Utilize technical software programs on a regular basis to analyze, produce, and QC deliverables for our clients.
- Contribute to the pre-construction civil engineering design, planning, modification, permitting, and analysis for multiple projects ranging in size and scope.

Your Responsibilities:

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Four years of relevant experience in the design and construction of commercial or institutional facilities, or a Master's degree plus two years' relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of current building codes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with engineering analysis and design software tools.
- Ability to obtain and maintain public trust suitability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AutoCAD for project drawing creation and editing.
- A solid understanding of the National Airspace System components within an air route traffic control center (ARTCC).
- Registered Professional Engineer in good standing in the United States.
