Position Overview

Join us in our fast-paced support to develop, advance, and sustain weapon systems for the U.S. Space Force (USSF) and its mission partners. You will be joining a team of personnel with experience and an in-depth understanding of the environments that include ground, near-space, space, and any system that operates in those environments to meet current and projected strategic, operational, and tactical needs for the Department of Defense (DoD). We are seeking a Software Engineer Lead. The Software Engineer Lead is responsible for supporting the building, testing, delivering, and deployment of secure enterprise software programs including using Agile processes and implementation for large-scale software programs. This includes effective management experience with large-scale programs (more than 100 personnel) as well as communicating with leadership, stakeholders, and development communities. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable with DoD, Air Force, Space Force, and/or Space Systems Command processes and procedures for delivering systems to production environments as well as familiarity with highly available, scalable cloud native solutions within commercial industry.

Responsibilities

    Provide computer and network systems engineering and technical advice for projects and programs as well as support program acquisition efforts for advanced technology, future concept development, and integration activities.
  • Support the revision or drafting of JCIDS and acquisition documentation such as Initial Capability Documents, Analysis of Alternatives, Concept of Operations, Technical/Systems Requirement Documents, Technical Evaluations, and System Specifications.
  • Provide inputs and support on technical and/or programmatic status reporting of individual projects, programs, or portfolios.
  • Identify areas of improvement with actionable, feasible recommendations, and tasks for reducing risk where appropriate as well as support risk identification, process definition, and detailed technical risk mitigation plans.
  • Maintain awareness of current program schedule, monitor acquisition implementation, report requirement shortfalls, and provide program assessments based on the identified risks.
  • Shall advise the Government program manager on technical engagements such as technical interchange meetings, design reviews, program conferences, and other informational meetings.
  • Maintain a broad awareness and understanding of all programs and technology development efforts in execution across the applicable portfolio as well as assist integrated product teams and working groups.
  • Provide technical and operational insight to support mission protection, operations, and mission data assessments as well as recommend viable solutions for technical anomalies.
  • Provide recommendations regarding robust software planning and development for a spiral/agile acquisition program.

Job Summary

The team lead is responsible for establishing and maintaining software development processes and standards, utilizing agile best practices, and tailoring them for individual project needs. Responsible for maintaining architecture and technology aligned across projects. Staying abreast of state-of-the-art tools and techniques and identifying opportunities to apply them to improve company and project outcomes. The Lead Software Engineer works with Special Programs chief solutions architect/engineer and individual Program Managers to plan, develop, and manage software development team resources.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Lead team implementing software engineering best practices to ensure functional, performant, well documented, and maintainable code, with thorough testing and timely delivered, working software

· Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams to understand functional requirements and deliver high quality working software throughout sprints, demos, releases, and the full product development life cycle.

· Collaborate with the software architect, systems engineers, and test lead to provide software design expertise.

· Plan software team tasking in support of program and engineering managers

· Create and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and source code.

· Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.

Basic Qualifications

·BA/BS in mathematics, engineering, computer science, or other related field and 8 years of progressive, related experience.

·Active Top-Secret Clearance

· Experience leading and providing guidance and oversight to multiple projects.

· Proficient with a diverse set of programming languages and software development tools (e.g., React, NodeJS, Typescript, MongoDB, ActiveMQ, and Docker ).

· Experience with system design and data modeling using relational and non-relational databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

Preferred Qualifications

· Strong understanding of DevOps and Configuration Management practices and tools (e.g., Ansible, CI/CD, automated testing, Kubernetes).

· Experience designing and delivering complex, distributed systems using modern patterns (e.g., REST, SOA/microservices, message brokers).

· Understanding of government security requirements and access controls for delivery of software solutions.

· Broad understanding of Digital Signal Processing tools, techniques, and algorithms related to various radio communication technologies (e.g., Matlab, Simulink, GNU Radio, X-Midas, GPU programming).

· Experience with Software Defined Radio platforms (e.g., Ettus, Analog Devices, Xilinx, ICE).

· Agile or SAFe certification preferred.

· Expertise in Software Defined Radios and/or FPGA architecture development.

· DoD IAT Level II certification preferred.

Salary Range: $123,535-$183,750

The salary range posted is based on Colorado Springs, CO. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's location, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, contract affordability, and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
