Under the direction of a Sports Medicine Physician, the Athletic Trainer will assist in evaluation and treatment of all musculoskeletal injuries and sports related injuries.
Essential Functions
Practices as physician extender under a directing physician in accordance with state practice act .
Assesses patients to determine modifications of therapy and treatment needs in consultation with physician or other clinicians.
Develops rehabilitation programs that appropriately addresses patient's short and long term goals.
Demonstrate and help patients execute prescribed therapeutic exercises per physician protocols
Monitors patient's response to treatment.
Educates patients regarding rehabilitation programs, health needs, injuries, diagnosis, prognosis and risks.
Coordinates care with other patient care providers as appropriate .
Completes appropriate documentation including reports, treatments, intake forms, message logs etc.
Cleans, maintains , and inspects all necessary (can include room, ultrasound machine, ECG, PRP, exercise) equipment. Reports repair and maintenance needs.
Actively engages in marketing and community educational programs.
A ttend to patient questions/messages for physician.
Perform the following duties for patients : Casting , Splinting, Brace fitting, Wound care and bandaging, taking vitals, drawing up medications, perform testing for illnesses such as flu, strep etc.
Assist with procedures and concussion treatments.
File paperwork correctly and assist with obtaining prior authorizations when needed for procedures, imaging, or medications.
Assist outreach ATCs as needed when proper documentation of supervising/directing physician for the Intermountain system is in place .

National athletic trainer certification.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Evaluates injuries, physical conditions, and needs; recommending a scientific care plan to include schedule, treatment programs, and related education based on their capabilities and limitations. Ensures the health, comfort and safety of patients. Documents and interpretes appropriate information gathered from a variety of sources, including the medical record, physician, and family. Utilize appropriate testing/evaluation techniques to assess injuries. Contributes to the assessment of patients and administers treatments as ordered which may include, casting, splinting, bracing and provide education to patient on proper fit and use. Observe patients, document and report changes in patient condition, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and take any necessary action.
Counsels patients and family members on prevention and treatment plans as directed. Explains and updates safety rules governing daily training, recreational activities, and the use of professional exercise equipment as needed for patient care. Implements and monitors any patient treatment regimen for rehabilitation and reconditioning according to diagnosis and real-time condition.
Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of certification expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.

Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
Two years of experience preferred
Must be certified as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification and be licensed and/or registered in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.

This job assumes responsibility for and plans, organizes and conducts the athletic trainer program based upon management direction and physician's evaluation and assessment The Athletic Trainer I maintains injury logs and communicates response to prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation to the advanced practice clinician or physician and participates in the development of clinic and community based rehabilitation and training in conjunction with the physicians in the Sports Medicine Institute.
The Athletic Trainer I participates in in-services and continuing education programs on athletic training procedures as well as in clinical education, research, and professional paper writing.

Required - Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training
Preferred - Master's degree in Athletic Training
**Work Experience**

**Certifications**
Required - Current Athletic Trainer License in state of practice
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
