Covenant Christian is seeking a strong Christian to be an Assistant Swim Coach. All Covenant coaches should exemplify personal and professional characteristics that we strive to teach our student athletes, pushing them both academically and to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. The position will include but not be limited to spiritual mentorship, growth and development of the program, administration of the program, oversight of coaching staff, and practice and game instruction.
Covenant desires that student athletes possess Christ-like characteristics and are able to express them openly through the medium of sports. Our goal is to build eternal values in the students, while at the same time be a testimony of the power of Jesus Christ to all of those that we come in contact with during athletic events. Winning is important, but it is secondary to the Godly principles that the program is striving to instill into the student athlete.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Maintain high expectations for student athletes and managers both academically and athletically.
- Utilize, organize and work with other assistant coach(es) and team parent(s).
- Educates individuals, groups, or teams on the rules, strategies, and techniques for the sport.
- Assists in organization and implementation of practice sessions.
- Trains, encourages, and motivates athletes to prepare them for games.
- Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced.
- Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential.
- Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; assigns positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses.
- Ensures athletes are using equipment properly and safely.
- Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly.
- Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to particular sport or sports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Excellent leadership and motivational skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the assigned sport.
- Ability to work with student athletes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- One to two or more years of experience as a high school level coach preferred.

General Purpose
The Assistant Coach is a key individual in the MCAS athletic program. The Assistant Coach is responsible for promoting the highest type of conduct from each athlete.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assists with coordinating the total program with the Head Coach and other assistant coaches
- Assist with all aspects of any team-specific fundraising
- Assist with encouraging team participation in Athletic Department fundraisings
- Communicate with the Athletic Director
- Assist with organizing and planning all activities and practices
- Attend all required Athletic Department, DAC and IHSAA meetings
- Assist the Head Coach with documentation in regards to physicals; consent; rosters; awards; eligibility; emergency medical forms; and any other required information in the time frame set forth by the Athletic Department
- Complete the IHSAA/NFHS coach certification program
- Assist the Head Coach with communicating with college recruiters and help to arrange appropriate meetings
- Assumes duties which the Athletic Director or Principal deem necessary for the improvement of the program
- Be present at all practices and contests, providing assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant. Ensure that athletes are supervised at all times.
- Assist Head Coach with all equipment and uniforms including the safety, inventory, and storage and to be sure the annual update of inventory to the Athletic Department is promptly turned in after the season ends.
- Follow all District, School and Athletic Department policies and procedures.

Overseeing all aspects and levels of the program.
Enforcing district and department behavioral and academic expectations of their student-athletes.

Working as a part of a team with the assistant coaches and Junior High programs to develop and prepare student-athletes for future involvement with a more competitive atmosphere.
Completing required paperwork for sport including lesson plans, travel rosters, team rosters, early dismissal lists, end of season report.
Creating and maintaining a program budget.
Attending rule interpretation meetings, liaison with booster club and athletic director, league meetings and banquets.
The Head Coach is to be an exemplary role model for the athletes, school, community and District.
