Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Responsibilities This RN Staff- Inpatient Mental Health position is in Nursing service at the VA White River Junction Healthcare System, located at the WRJ location. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. Included but are not limited to: Gains awareness of the principles and goals of inpatient MH treatment by understanding practices related to patient-centered care, recovery-oriented principles, and self-awareness related to caring for patients living with MH conditions. Attends, observes, and facilitates nurse-led psychoeducational groups, uses therapeutic communication techniques, practices de-escalation techniques, and utilizes recovery-oriented language. Participates in shift report and warm hand-off, MH interdisciplinary treatment team, MH Environment of Care rounds, and responds to psychiatric emergencies as directed. Identifies safety concerns and hazardous items to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment of care, and documents nursing assessments, nursing plan of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds in accordance with facility policy. Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. Seeks guidance on how to improve MH care provided to patients and families. Brings MH principles and theory, using critical thinking skills, to provide quality nursing care. Accepts charge nurse duties on rotational basis. Cross-coverage to other units as assigned per needs of facility. The Mental Health Therapist provides individual, group, marital, and family therapy utilizing a variety of treatment modalities. They provide education/information to patients and families and modifies treatments as necessary in response to patient progress.

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week benefited evening-shift position working Monday - Friday 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm with rotating weekends (every other). The evening shift receives a 10% shift differential, and weekend shifts receive a 15% shift differential.
