About the role:

The Ceded Reinsurance Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day ceded reinsurance operations. The Ceded Reinsurance Accounting Manager will report to the AVP of Ceded Reinsurance and is an integral part of the Insurance Finance team. The role will be responsible for reviewing and supporting monthly/quarterly journal entries as well as preparing regulatory and external reporting for Vantage. The position requires a strong understanding of ceded reinsurance contracts and must have strong Microsoft skills. This role blends Finance, ceded accounting, and ceded operations to create core deliverables in support of the entire organization. This role involves supervising a senior accountant, analyzing financial data, and working collaboratively with other departments to support the company's financial goals.

The base salary expectation for this role is between $125,000 and $135,000. Actual base salary for the selected candidate may be higher commensurate with candidate experience and expectations. Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly ceded reinsurance results and analyses for internal and external reporting.  
  • Collaborate with the Ceded Reinsurance Placement Team, Actuarial, FP&A, and Claims departments to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Preparation and review of detailed journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual Schedule F exhibits for the Company’s NAIC as well any additional regulatory filings.
  • Participate in audits and work with stakeholders to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Oversee treaty, FAC, and proportional calculations, entries, billing, receipts, and disbursements.
  • Manage the calculation, booking, billing, and collection of all ceded payable and recoverable including profit and sliding scale commissions.
  • Lead and support ad hoc reporting and special projects.
  • Assist in the ongoing implementation of a new ceded system.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the reinsurance accounting cycle to improve close cycles, controls, and understanding.
  • Maintain a strong control environment and associated documentation.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Over 5 years of experience in ceded reinsurance.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting standards.
  • Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with Power BI, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with NAIC Annual Statement Software and Gain Compliance is a plus.
  • Familiarity with accounting software; experience with Oracle a plus.
  • Familiarity with ceded reinsurance software; experience with DXC SICS is a plus.
  • Strong organizational abilities and the capability to multitask and reprioritize as needed.

Scope of leadership role

The External Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager will help lead the quarterly financial reporting close process in close partnership and collaboration with the Company's accounting team and other internal stakeholders. This role will also help implement strong, sustainable financial reporting processes and controls and assist with technical accounting research and documentation as needed. The External Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager is a full-time role and reports to the Director of Accounting Policy & External Financial reporting with significant visibility to leadership throughout the Company, including the SVP and Chief Accounting Officer, VP of Investor Relations, Segment CFOs and Controllers, Division Finance Directors, VP of Tax, VP of FP&A, Sr. Director of Treasury, and other leadership throughout the Company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help lead the drafting and preparation of the quarterly financial statements along with other members of the financial reporting team
  • Closely liaison with segment and business unit teams to provide oversight and proactive support on technical accounting matters, including researching the appropriate accounting guidance and documenting (or reviewing) conclusions
  • Review work of Sr. External Financial Reporting Analyst, including financial statement footnote disclosure tie-outs
  • Oversee and review standardized segment-level financial statement and reserve analysis to identify and understand any unusual trends and ensure the appropriate application of US GAAP and the Company's accounting policies
  • Provide proactive support for any new business acquisitions or divestitures, including performing opening balance sheet reviews and coordinating with 3rd party specialists on valuation procedures
  • Help lead and document annual segment, reporting unit and goodwill assessments
  • Coordinate quarterly "roundtable" meetings with Segment Finance teams and other functional teams in Finance (e.g., Treasury, Tax and Internal Audit) to communicate deliverable timelines, policy, personnel and systems updates, key cross-functional initiatives, etc.
  • Support implementation of new accounting guidance, policies, etc.
  • Establish and maintain effective design and operating effectiveness of disclosure controls and support internal control assessments
  • Drive continuous improvement and reduce cycle time in the quarterly reporting process through the increased utilization of technology and tools, implementation of standard operating procedures and other efficiency measures
  • Monitor evolving reporting and disclosure trends and developments as well as performing benchmarking analysis to ensure transparent and high-quality reporting
  • Help lead the assessment and implementation of new FASB ASUs, as applicable
  • Assist with drafting, implementing and maintaining financial reporting policies
  • Assist with researching accounting literature and preparing technical accounting memos, as needed
  • Coordinate with and support external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audit
  • Support ad hoc requests from Director of Accounting Policy & External Financial Reporting, Assistant Corporate Controller, and Chief Accounting Officer, as needed
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting
  • Masters degree in Accounting or MBA strongly preferred
  • CPA is strongly preferred
  • 7 - 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Large public accounting and/or large US public company experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding and experience in practically applying US GAAP and SEC rules

Compensation Details:

$120,000 - $150,000
The salary range provided is intended to display the value of the company's base pay compensation for all statewide locations across the United States. + Management of day-to-day accounting operations and ensure processes are efficient.

Job Description:
The Accounting Manager supervises all general accounting functions. Responsibilities will include the coordination of daily accounting operations, directing the monthly close process, coordinating the entity's treasury operations and the preparation of accurate GAAP basis monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements. Specific job duties will include:
+ The coordination of daily financing activities with the Company's operations team, various mortgage loan brokers, title companies, and warehouse lenders.
+ The preparation of quarterly operating and cash forecasts, and various financial analyses as requested from time to time by the Company's Controller.
+ General supervision of the accounting team including assisting where necessary with daily general ledger posting activities. This will include the preparation of interest rate lock derivative calculations, various pricing analyses, sales commission and production bonus calculations, and the periodic mark-to-market valuation of the loans held for sale inventory.
+ Reviewing and maintaining all balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring that all intercompany account balances and all bank account balances are reconciled.
+ Working with accounting team to document policies and procedures, and to establish proper controls to deter fraud.
+ Responsible for accurate financial management reporting including consolidated financial statements when appropriate.
+ Responsible for disbursements review and control, including payroll, shared services, debt reporting, lender covenants, and income tax reporting.
+ Helping to train, develop and build the accounting team, providing guidance as needed.
+ Working with a third party valuation company to independently value retained mortgage servicing rights.
+ The ability to read and to comprehensively discern the appropriate accounting recognition of various legal agreements including MLPAs, AMAs, and forward purchase and sale agreements.
+ Effectively and efficiently coordinate the distribution of financial information to support regulatory compliance reporting and field examinations by warehouse lenders, tax professionals, independent audit firms, and various other third party professionals.
+ Provide direction and supervision over: 1) The Monthly Accounting Close Process and recognition of revenue, 2) Reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts to various corporate business units. 3) Administration of treasury functions with Corporate and BU accounts.
+ LOS System (Encompass), GL System (NetSuite), Document Management System.
+ Needs to be very well organized, and know where all supporting information is located.
+ Directs and coordinates all loan transfers to the servicing group.
Requirements
Job Requirements:
+ Multiple years in the accounting profession, preferably with some supervisory and mortgage lending experience.
+ Strong accounting and financial reporting, summarization and communications skills.
+ A high level of experience with accounting information systems, treasury management, and internal controls.
+ A solid understanding of resource requirements for financial tasks.
+ Has previously managed a professional staff and has reported directly to mid-level or senior level management.
+ 5 years financial experience, advanced or accounting degree, GL and closing experience, treasury and disbursement management experience.
+ Above average accounting software systems, exceptional GAAP knowledge, organizational and recordkeeping skills.

Oversee and provide support to various accounting functions within the corporate accounting. Produce accurate and timely financial statements for the business unit and for its subsidiaries. Support business units, business unit subsidiaries, and entities in recording and reporting financial transactions in an accurate and timely manner.
Supports preparation and delivery of corporation's monthly financial statement close process.
+ Prepares the monthly reporting packages for corporate entities including analysis of current actual results to prior period actual results for corporation- for use in Board and Senior Management reporting and external reporting
+ Supports in the accounting, analysis and budgeting of various accounts
+ Consults and liaises with operating unit finance personnel on accounting issues.
+ incidental adjustments to facilitate delivery of services or work output. Must be able to develop effective relationships with various parties, both within the Controller's Group (G/L, Revenue, Plant, Tax) as well as other areas of the company (FP& A, operating groups, etc.) to enhance and improve processes.
+ Work output has considerable impact on the work of other financial functions, reporting and decision making processes. Impact on earnings focuses on appropriate utilization / development of resources and critical disruption of service possibilities.
+ Supervise assigned staff including development, staffing, performance assessment, work review, etc. Day to day supervisory responsibilities are limited but, depending on size and accounting complexity of assigned entity, may provide lead direction to junior level individuals assigned to specific project or work group. Work leadership is generally administrative in nature and typically involves functional direction to others assigned to assist on an occasional to moderate basis.

Responsibilities
+ Lead, review, and directly contribute to General Ledger maintenance through periodic close activities required for the preparation of accurate & timely financial statements and reporting.

Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA and/or MBA is a plus.
+ 7+ years of comparable work experience.
+ The successful candidate will have led an accounting organization of relevant size and complexity through a period of sustained growth.
+ Demonstrated ability to delegate responsibility and authority to the lowest appropriate level yet be willing to participate directly and actively as required.
+ First-hand experience in the corporate office of publicly traded companies with multinationals is strongly preferred.
+ Strong operating accounting experience, ideally in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company.
+ Experience and confidence dealing with senior management.
+ Experience developing and coaching teams to perform at new levels of achievement.
+ ERP experience, preferably NetSuite, but equivalent is sufficient.
