Our client, an art gallery, is seeking a Part-time Gallery Assistant to join their team in Washington, D.C., US . This role provides essential support for daily gallery operations, including greeting visitors, assisting with sales, and maintaining the gallery space. The ideal candidate is personable, organized, and has a passion for art.

- Greet visitors warmly and provide information about current exhibitions and artists.
- Answer phone calls and respond to email inquiries.
- Assist with art sales, including processing transactions and wrapping/packing artwork.
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the gallery space.
- Monitor gallery security and ensure the safety of artwork.
- Assist with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
- Manage inventory of gallery publications and merchandise.
- Update exhibition information and signage.
- Assist with opening receptions and special events.
- Maintain visitor logs and contact lists.
- Provide administrative support as needed (filing, data entry).
- Learn about the artists and artwork represented by the gallery.
- Assist with social media posting and updates.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail.
- Coordinate with vendors for supplies and services.
- Help prepare artwork for shipping or delivery.
- Support the Gallery Manager with various tasks.
- Ensure all artwork is handled with care according to best practices.
- Provide information about the gallery's programs and events.
- Contribute to creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Art History, Arts Administration, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in a gallery, museum, or customer service role is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets).
- Interest in contemporary or relevant art forms.
- Ability to work weekends and some evenings as required by gallery hours and events.
- Professional demeanor and appearance.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Experience with point-of-sale systems is a plus.
- Ability to handle artwork with care.
- Proactive and willing to take initiative.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift light to moderate objects (up to 25 lbs).
- Familiarity with social media platforms.
