Director of Engineering, Release Management

Position Overview

The Director of Engineering Release Management will lead and oversee the organization's release management strategy and execution, ensuring smooth and reliable software delivery across multiple product lines. This role combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to optimize the release process and drive engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the organization's release management strategy, aligning with business objectives and engineering capabilities
  • Drive the architecture, execution and delivery of CI/CD platforms, delivery pipelines and related engineering builds/branches and environments
  • Define and maintain release management processes, standards, and best practices across engineering teams
  • Oversee the technical infrastructure supporting release processes, including CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and testing frameworks
  • Guide the implementation of modern release practices such as feature flags, canary deployments, and automated rollback mechanisms
  • Create the strategy for building and owning a self-service; enterprise-scale experimentation platform
  • Ensure robust monitoring and alerting systems are in place for release health tracking
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and experimentation across engineering and product to enable rapid prototyping, iteration and a "fail-forward" mindset for new feature development.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve release velocity, quality, and reliability
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Operations leaders to establish release roadmaps and priorities
  • Oversee the end-to-end release lifecycle, from planning through deployment and post-release monitoring
  • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure release performance and quality
  • Implement risk management strategies to minimize release-related incidents
  • Establish release communication protocols and ensure transparency
Process Optimization
  • Streamline release processes to reduce cycle time and increase deployment frequency
  • Implement and maintain release governance frameworks
  • Lead incident post-mortems and drive process improvements

Qualifications

Required Experience
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with 5+ years in release management
  • 5+ years of people management experience, preferably in a director-level role
  • Strong track record of implementing and scaling release processes in high-growth environments
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and modern deployment technologies
  • Strong expertise in branching strategies
  • Experience building or using A/B testing infrastructure and deep understanding of SRE operating models
  • Experience setting up complete end to end fully integrated delivery system (source control management, build tools, artifact repositories, deployment and monitoring systems)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with microservices architecture, releasing 30+ microservices across multiple geo's and distributed systems
  • Track record of successful organizational transformation initiatives
  • Strong background in agile methodologies and scaled agile frameworks

Job Summary

The Enterprise Storage Business Unit (BU) is responsible for building, launching and managing NetApp’s core storage and data management products. The team is responsible for developing next generation Storage Portfolio and scale adoption of current generation by being at the forefront of innovation and collaborating across NetApp’s hybrid cloud portfolio (Public, Private & On Prem).

Enterprise Storage BU is looking for a Engineering Operations Program Manager with the main charter to improve execution rigor and operations efficiencies in Planning and “Run and Grow the Business” phase. This role will also be collaborating with BU leadership, Product Management, PMO and XFN teams to drive operational & strategic initiatives.

You will work closely with senior leadership in the planning, evaluation, and selection of the right opportunities to optimize processes across BU and bridge the gap between the business, data, tech, and operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Driving Business Programs – Enterprise Storage BU works on multiple x-BU projects to build cohesive experience for our customers, partners and internal stakeholders. This lead will be responsible for end-to-end management of these x-BU initiatives including but not limited to- Define the objective, charter, create project structure, communication and stakeholder management to drive excellent outcomes.
  • Driving complex Engineering Program Reviews for Post-NPI Phase – Set up, define, drive and evolve Engineering Programs which cut across multiple development teams. Also, set up forum to drive governance of Portfolio Management by working closely with Eng, PM and PMO teams.
  • Drive Business and Product Planning : Orchestrate Annual Fiscal Year (FY) Planning, Long Range Planning and Semester Planning.
  • Rhythm of the Business: Build and run Rhythm of Business for a function or entire BU, including but not limited to define business cadence, information management, Org planning, MBRs/QBRs, Staff meetings, Org communication (All Hands etc), leadership offsite etc.
  • Representing BU in broader forums -Represent BU in forums and lead initiatives involving XFN stakeholders Product Group, Finance, HR & Legal etc.

Job Requirements

  • 10+ years experience as a Engineering or Business Program Manager in leading and managing the XFN business projects, process re-design and transformation projects
  • Strong analytical and structured problem solving skills and ability to communicate effectively through high quality artifacts (docs, decks etc)
  • Functional knowledge of financial management of project resources and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Engineering and Product teams and delivering Eng and non-Eng programs while bringing clarity in ambiguous scope and un-defined structure
  • Setting up and driving complex organizational business cadence of large technology teams
  • Proven record to lead multi-functional teams through influence versus direct management
  • Demonstrates a strong bias to action; not afraid to tackle unknowns
  • Leverages strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to build productive relationships
  • Experience managing projects with remote/geographically dispersed team members

Education

BS/BA Degree, MBA preferred

Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is 180,200 - 268,400 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. **Job Description**

**AECOM** is growing in northern California and seeking an experienced **Senior Environmental Planning Project Manager - Land Use/Development Focus** to join our Environmental Permitting and Planning (EPP) team. The successful candidate would join our diverse team to engage with our expanding pool of public and private sector clients, manage contracts and task orders for large environmental planning programs, and coordinate with our team and subcontractors to complete environmental compliance processes and documentation.

The candidate will primarily lead environmental clearance and compliance work on land use and development projects, on behalf of lead agency clients, but may also work on infrastructure projects in the transportation, water, and energy sectors. Depending on the project assignment, the candidate could serve as a project manager, deputy project manager, task manager, or technical specialist. Technical responsibilities of this position would include providing guidance and management of CEQA and permitting efforts, providing planning assistance to design teams for project development, and interacting with agencies and the public. Work will include collaboration with senior project managers and task leaders; client staff; and representatives from cities, counties, and local, regional, state, and federal agencies. The selected candidate will also function as a mentor to staff and manage client relationships.

This hybrid role can be based out of AECOM's Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco, or San Jose offices.

AECOM is seeking candidates with a demonstrated ability to manage contracts and task orders for environmental planning and compliance projects and programs, successfully interface with clients, apply sound business development strategies, and prepare proposals and deliverables that respond to our clients needs.

**Key responsibilities include:**

+ Lead environmental planning and compliance work and support the development of environmental documents and studies in compliance with CEQA, NEPA, and other state and federal environmental regulations.

+ Manage contracts involving multiple task orders. Oversee contract administration and compliance, task order scope and budget development, staffing including subcontractor coordination, communication of contract policy and practice to internal teams, financial performance, adherence to quality protocols, and client satisfaction.

+ Manage projects including authority and accountability for scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables. Manage subconsultants and technical staff.

+ Collaborate with project teams to develop work programs designed to provide innovative and progressive project solutions.

+ Prepare effective technical and cost proposals and take an active role in the development of new business with new and existing clients. Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business.

+ Providing leadership in mentoring personnel, including reviewing their work for accuracy and clarity and providing constructive feedback on project tasks.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Requirements:**

+ Bachelor's degree in environmental planning or related field.

+ 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in lead environmental clearance and compliance work on land use and development projects and and impact assessment (analytical/technical writing) for CEQA and/or NEPA.

+ Valid U.S Driver's license is required for this role.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ 15+ years of experience in environmental planning, including facility siting, permitting, community engagement, and impact assessment (analytical/technical writing) for CEQA and/or NEPA or similar requirements.

+ Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of competence and project management experience in the area of technical report writing related to CEQA/NEPA compliance as well as other types of technical reports and regulatory (federal, state, local) permitting documents.

+ Experience managing environmental compliance projects or programs, requiring coordination of interdisciplinary teams, management of budget(s), and meeting schedule(s).

+ Experience leading task order-based on-call interdisciplinary services contracts for state or local agencies.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively manage projects and interact with teams of staff, subconsultants, and clients; successful candidate will have the ability to write concise technical documents; to multi-task effectively to accommodate working on various simultaneous and diverse projects; and to follow through to completion all assigned and delegated tasks.

+ Experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and agency consultations.

+ Demonstrated expertise in preparing and overseeing the environmental planning and permitting. efforts associated with land use and development projects, preferably in northern California.

+ Experience with moderate to major development projects on the rural/urban fringe and familiarity with Senate Bill 330 (Builders Remedy).

+ Experience in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects.

+ Prior consulting experience is highly desired.

**Additional Information**

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $155,000.00 - $00,000.00.
