The American Trucking Associations (ATA), the nation’s leading trade and lobby association representing the trucking industry, is actively seeking collaborative and analytical Director of Safety Policy .
This role is crucial in advancing driver, technology, and motor carrier safety policies, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and promoting ATA member interests. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legislative and regulatory initiatives within the transportation industry and will play a key role in helping shape safety policies affecting the trucking industry.
This is a hybrid position, requiring in-office attendance at ATA headquarters at least 3 days per week, including Mondays and Tuesdays. This position does not include budgetary or supervisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a staff specialist on driver and motor carrier safety issues, including medical requirements, drug and alcohol testing, licensing/CDL issues, vehicle safety technologies, and automated vehicle technologies.
- Provide expert guidance and answer inquiries from ATA members, state trucking associations, and related councils on compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
- Prepare issue summaries, whitepapers, and other resources to assist members in understanding and complying with FMCSRs and support regulatory and legislative advocacy efforts.
- Draft comments on rulemakings, advocate ATA policies and positions on safety issues, and help prepare Congressional hearing testimony.
- Serve as staff liaison for ATA's Controlled Substances, Driver Health & Wellness Subcommittee, and support the Safety Policy and Hazardous Materials Policy Committees.
- Deliver presentations on safety issues and ATA policies to external organizations, provide technical assistance for media responses, and support press release preparation.
- Collaborate with ATA’s Legislative Affairs team to educate lawmakers on critical safety topics and advance legislative efforts.

- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) required; advanced degree in public policy/administration preferred.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in policy/advocacy within the government or commercial transportation industry.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex issues and develop practical, effective solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear reports, documents, and presentations for various audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, and internal teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work.
- Ability to lead initiatives and projects with minimal supervision, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Comfortable speaking to both small and large groups, conveying technical and non-technical information in an engaging and understandable way.
- Strong understanding of industry-specific regulations and standards, with an ability to provide expert advice on policy and compliance matters.

The Senior/Principal Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer is responsible for Level-1 and/or Level-2 PRA supporting the design of reactors under development of the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) Program, specifically this will focus on the further development of the PRA to support the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE).
Other engineering activities include, but are not limited to, contributing to the development of computational methodologies and models, participating in hazard analysis, participating in Phenomena Identification and Ranking Table (PIRT) exercises, and participating in Structures, Systems, and Components (SSC) classification, Safety Basis Events (SBE) selection, and Defense-in-Depth (DID) Evaluations. The Senior/Principal PRA Engineer will be interacting with other groups via interviews, emails, meetings, and other avenues to develop the risk models and the position requires sound written and verbal communication skills.
The Senior/Principal Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer receives administrative and technical supervision from the Nuclear Safety Discipline Manager. Actual level will be based on candidate's experience.
Responsibilities
+ Manage PRA work performed inside and outside of System One in coordination with plant design, deterministic safety analysis, and other disciplines.
+ Ensure that the PRA is appropriate and used for the reactor design and within regulatory requirements, guidance, and standards such as risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors (RG 1.233 and NEI 18-04) and ASME/ANS Non-Light Water PRA standard.
+ Develop containment fault trees and event trees to reflect most up-to-date design using CAFTA.
+ Group similar source terms for assignment to event sequence end states.
+ Perform risk integration using the PRA model to report risk metrics and importance measures.
+ Perform focused PRA analysis to support trade studies.
+ Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish core and reactor SSC functional, reliability, performance, safety, and quality requirements as well as support the overall design.
+ Provide technical guidance to engineers and managers on reliability and various PRA-related topics.
+ Establish and maintain documentation of model development and analysis results.
+ Perform engineering reviews of analyses and other engineering design media.
Key Qualifications and Skills
+ B.S. in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering (or similar), with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the nuclear field; or M.S. with a minimum of 3 years' experience; or PhD with a minimum of 1 year experience.
+ Knowledgeable of PRA principles and familiar with the ASME/ANS Non-Light Water PRA standard.
+ Knowledgeable of PRA fundamentals in data, human reliability, accident analysis, severe accidents, and source term assessments.
+ Experience with developing fault trees and event trees preferably using CAFTA, or similar software.
+ Experience with performing assessments using codes such as GOTHIC, MELCOR, RADTRAD, or similar tools is a plus.
+ Familiarity with nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors is required (NEI 18-04).
+ Experience with SFR and/or Molten Salt Reactors safety analysis is highly desirable. Experience with other reactor designs can be considered when differentiating candidates.

The Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) Team within Amazon's Compliance Assurance and Risk Assessment group is seeking a motivated and experienced Global Risk Assessment Manager. The ideal candidate will leverage risk assessments and compliance evaluations, to lead continuous improvement initiatives to minimize environmental aspects and impacts and communicate and implement best practices. The candidate will facilitate root cause analyses for all environmental incidents and/or noncompliant regulatory interactions to recommend appropriate corrective actions for network implementation. They will use data and metrics to propose program enhancements and collaborate with subject matter experts to modify standards as needed to improve our ability to scale and sustain compliance. They will be comfortable presenting issues and proposed solutions to all levels of leadership through superior written and verbal communication skills.
In this role, the Global Compliance Assurance Risk Manager will use their expertise to provide insights from audits, risk assessments and reporting data to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies. They will obsess over our customers (internal and external) and will work backward from the customer's needs to create world class processes. They are a trusted partner to our external partners and internal business operations and will leverage those trusting relationships to create excellent outcomes. They will also promote and implement best practices using continuous improvement concepts to drive change.
Key job responsibilities
- Conduct risk assessments and appropriate programmatic audits
- Determine root causes of noncompliance and develop controls to mitigate future occurrences
- Measure and analyze sites' performance against requirements and policies
- Develop and maintain relationships with business partners to support their success in environmental compliance, performance and sustainability initiatives
- Manage and execute business conformance with Amazon Environmental policies through effective execution of Amazon Operational Environmental Procedures
- Evaluate compliance monitoring data to determine where there are gaps and build mechanisms to eliminate those gaps and associated risks
