ALL ABOUT GENERAL MERCHANDISE

Experts of operations, process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team leads Food & Beverage and Food Service, providing a fresh and food safe experience. Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by owning pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

  • Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest first culture across the store
  • Experience in retail business fundamentals including: department sales trends, inventory management, and process efficiency and improvement
  • Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

As a General Merchandise Expert, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:
  • Create a welcoming experience by authentically greeting all guests
  • Observe to quickly understand whether a guest needs assistance or wants to interact. Follow body language and verbal clues to tailor your approach
  • Engage with guests in a genuine way, which include asking questions to better understand their specific needs
  • Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the total store, and specific to your area, to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience
  • Thank the guest in a genuine way and let them know we're happy they chose to shop at Target
  • Be knowledgeable of GM areas to ensure sales floor is zoned, in stock and accurately signed and priced for guests
  • Acknowledge guests as you complete workload with minimal guest disruption; partner with leadership to prioritize daily workload based on business and guest needs
  • Ensure regular and promotional signing is set accurately for GM categories and be knowledgeable of products in the ad
  • Execute inbound, replenishment, backroom and signing processes for GM areas
  • Execute processes including pricing, presentation sets, and inventory accuracy as directed by your leader for all areas
  • Understand how operational procedures, like planogram (POG) ties, product capacities and salesfloor quantities impact shortage, profitability, in store replenishment and inventory accuracy
  • Operate power equipment only if certified
  • Follow processes accurately with attention to detail, monitor own progress
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance
  • Work in a safe manner at all times to benefit yourself and others; identify and correct hazards; comply with all safety policies and best practices
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, and digital fulfillment processes and maintain compliance culture while executing those duties, such as federal, state, and local adult beverage laws
  • All other duties based on business needs

    SCOPE: The Food Safety and Quality Manager provides leadership and strategic direction to the QA team. They are responsible for motivating and developing team members to meet food safety and quality goals, fostering teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement. The role involves ensuring safety, food safety, quality assurance, process efficiency, and customer satisfaction while supporting safety, maintenance, and production requirements.

    PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
    • Support plant safety, food safety, food defense initiatives, and GMPs as top priorities.
    • Ensure employee safety by following procedures and addressing non-compliance.
    • Maintain and oversee Food Safety policies, procedures, and compliance, including HACCP and PCQI certifications.
    • Manage the companys Food Safety HACCP Plan and ensure team education on requirements.
    • Lead the Food Safety Team to establish, monitor, and review food safety, quality, and legal objectives.
    • Manage Food Defense Plan, Internal Audit Program, Supplier Approval Program, Non-Conformance Program, and Environmental Monitoring Program.
    • Ensure compliance with regulations and audit requirements like BRC, and manage inspection programs.
    • Complete incident reports promptly when incidents occur.
    • Provide leadership to ensure manufacturing success in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
    • Motivate, train, and support a diverse workforce, including attending meetings across shifts.
    • Foster positive employee relations and manage conflict effectively.
    • Track daily results and enforce accountability through communication of expectations.
    • Assist in plant inspections and lead audits, including FDA and BRC.
    • Prepare reports and presentations for management to meet BRC standards.
    • Maintain food safety and quality records properly.
    • Use and update software for nutritional and allergen information.
    • Participate in Crisis Management and R&D teams, providing quality support.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned by leadership; backup role to Director of QA and Sanitation.

    The Food Safety Sanitor performs sanitation labor by performing the eight steps of sanitation while understanding and complying with all food safety and safety policies and procedures. Job duties include:

    1. Method development, including validation and documentation.
    1. Writing concise and timely reports to management on projects and regular activities.
    1. Responsible for customer complaint investigations.
    1. Assisting with technician training.
    1. Other duties, as assigned.
    Qualifications:
    1. Bachelor of Chemistry degree (or related degree)
    2. Knowledge of basic chemistry principles and analytical methods.
    3. Working knowledge of cGMP as they relate to lab activities.
    4. Careful attention to detail.
