Role Purpose Statement

Ensure the food meets the standards set by regulatory health authorities and the company. The job incumbent is responsible for the implementation, auditing, assessing and training of food safety and quality management systems within the responsible Customer Service Center (CSC). 
Responsible for the development, deployment, implementation, and on-going execution of the food safety preventive controls program (Policies, SOPs, Hazard Analysis, HACCP Plan, Prerequisite Food Safety Programs, Traceability & Recall Process, Allergen Programs, and Associated Records) within the assigned facility.
 

Main Accountabilities
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements Food and Drug Administration (FDA) such as federal regulation, local regulation, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), customer specifications and corporate food safety and quality standards, regional food safety and quality standards, taken appropriate corrective actions when needed.
  • Manage the food safety program and ensures that FDA FSMA preventive controls are effective and proper records are maintained.
  • Provide technical expertise relative to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), food safety, sensory and quality evaluations.
  • Conduct monthly-required assessments of the food safety program to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct routine microbiological testing as defined by food safety program.
  • Review and analyse weekly food safety documents including HACCP logs.
  • Utilization of the checklists to determine consistent fulfilment of required food safety program.
  • Support CSC leadership with inspection/audit readiness; coach CSC before, during and after all external, food safety, quality and sanitation inspections/audit.
  • Supervise pest control program and contract services and suppliers related to the food safety program.
  • Conduct appropriate investigations regarding food safety matters and support CSC management in providing detailed information to the customers.
  • Perform and document periodical checks on products and services to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Interface with functional areas (Operations, Production, Sales, and HR), Regional Quality Team, other quality managers to ensure sustainability of the food safety program.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders across all functions and suppliers, customers and regulatory authorities.

Reporting

  • Monitor and prepare reports for the food safety and quality management system.
  • Insertion of monthly-required data in the company web based portal.
  • Collect and monitor all food safety and quality documents (e.g. environmental monitoring, sanitation verifications, chef table, portion control, equipment handling, ramp-on time and safety performance)
  • Keep manuals and documentation updated and implement new procedures and rules in a timely manner.

Leadership

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally in person, by phone and through email.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while interacting with staff at all levels, and remaining positive, proactive and resourceful.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work efficiently and independently.
  • Able to read and understand food safety and quality reports and take appropriate action.
  • Must possess a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and is well organized.
  • Recruit, on-board, develop, coach, train, support, and evaluate the performance of the Food Safety staff.
  • Participate and support company sponsored initiatives such as Global Quality Standards (GQS), HACCP, Lean Manufacturing, Employee Safety
     
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology or related fields.
  • Certified Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) 
  • Five or more years of experience in Food Safety roles with a minimum of 2 years management experience.
  • Technical proficiency in the areas such as of food microbiology, food chemistry, food safety, and food regulations.
  • Proven understanding of government regulations in relation to food processing as FDA FSMA, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), HACCP regulations and USDA.
  • Proven analytical and leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be a collaborative leader who inspires, manages, coaches and respects people.
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills that combines with an aptitude for multi-tasking.
  • Knowledge of computer skills required, including use of technology (scanners, tablets, printers, copiers, etc.) and Microsoft Office programs, as well as cloud based systems.

The role:

The Food Safety Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining best-in-class food safety culture and risk management through implementation and adherence of food safety plans and programs, quality system compliance, preventative controls of hazards, and investigation management. WHAT YOULL DO

Job Summary :

Lead and manage the quality assurance programs, policies and initiatives for company products. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in food science, Biology, Chemistry or related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years quality assurance experience in the food industry and a total of seven (7) years total quality assurance experience.
  • Knowledge of the food industry manufacturing practices and familiar governmental regulations. (Exclusively for Domestic: including OSHA lab standards and Good Manufacturing Practices as defined by the FDA.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with franchisees, vendors and other departments, often communicating complex technical data to a variety of audiences.
  • Evidence of the ability to establish, document, update and track quality metrics, preferable through standardized and accepted process control procedures.
  • Experience in a previous position requiring accuracy, attention to detail and documentation of issues, resolutions and policy changes.

About the role

Reckitt is looking for a dynamic leader to drive continuous improvement in food safety and compliance at our Wanamingo site. This role offers the opportunity to lead environmental monitoring, provide technical advice, and collaborate globally to ensure the highest standards in microbiological safety and quality. Your responsibilities
  • Leads site in review of Environmental Monitoring data and works with the site to identify and drive continuous improvement activities to improve compliance to internal food safety standards.
  • Represents Wanamingo as part of the Global Mead Johnson Microbiological Community and provides advice on microbiological test methodology.
  • Serves as part of the Quality unit to perform inspections of operations to verify start up conditions.
  • Provides technical advice to Wanamingo Supply Center, Plant Sanitation Technician to drive continuous improvement of facility sanitation systems through microbiological data analysis.
  • Conducts troubleshooting on food safety issues and make decisions in a rapid, complex environment.
  • Represents QA on capital project teams for the review of food safety requirements and impact to HACCP or Prerequisite programs.
  • Works with site, Regional, and Global Quality to communicate Factory Microbiology Metrics to drive awareness on performance of MJN sites in meeting microbiological related KPI' s.
  • Occasional travel to third party manufacturing locations may be required.
  • Leads Wanamingo plant HACCP team in hazard analysis process and in the development of the detailed HACCP documentation.
  • Works to ensure HACCP and Prerequisite programs are routinely reviewed as part of the Change Control program. Partners with plant to drive gap closure.
  • Develops verification and validation program for Control Points and Critical Control Points to meet regulatory and MJN requirements.
  • Coordinates and conducts food safety, microbiology, HACCP, and current Good Manufacturing Practices training for the Wanamingo site.
  • Conducts training and ongoing verification of internal GMP audit program.
  • Work with site Maintenance to prioritize findings for action.
  • Provide leadership to site allergen management program and to QC allergen testing program
  • Works with site Quality leadership to develop program strategies and manage day-to-day implementation and execution of the Facility Hygienic Zoning, Good Manufacturing Practices and the Environmental Monitoring Programs.
The experience we're looking for
  • Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or related degree
  • At least a total of 5 years experience in manufacturing, sanitation, or quality assurance/quality control. Prior microbiology laboratory work or study preferred.
  • The candidate must have profound knowledge in food safety and in quality systems. Knowledge of quality systems such as SAP, GLIMS, and Optiva
  • Microbiological knowledge is required.
  • Good people development skills and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience within an FDA regulated environment preferred.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Demonstrates achievements within a competitive business environment where change in business dynamics plays a major role. The individual will have a track record with proven results and achievements
  • Strong communication skills with other Quality staff and the ability to interact and work with Quality and Operations staff on a daily basis required.
  • Food Safety Preventive Controls (PCQI) is desired
  • Formal HACCP training/certification is desired.
  • Travel domestically or internationally 5-10%

What you will be doing
  • Conduct frequent and unscheduled food safety and sanitation audits
  • Monitor and assist distribution to comply with local, state and federal food safety and health standards, including personal hygiene and hand washing, temperature control of potentially hazardous foods, cross contamination control, pest control and chemical use training.

Pay Rate: $82,000 - $107,680 annual

Starting rates may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits may include healthcare, PTO/Vacation pay and retirement benefits (401(k) eligibility).

Our client, a nationwide provider of high-quality food products has an immediate opening for an experienced Electro-Maintenance Mechanic, to join their winning team in Collingswood.

Our candidate of choice will have knowledge of retail meat cuts and product specifications, food safety and quality training, Microsoft Office, basic computer literacy and strong written and verbal communication skills. Completion of a meat cutting apprenticeship with Journeymen experience is desired. Experience in quality assurance, and food safety management systems, meat and poultry HACCP and SQF Practitioner.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Responsible for overseeing implementation of the companys food safety and quality management system to assure food product integrity and compliance with specifications, SQF, GMPs, HACCP, USDA regulatory and customer standards.
  • Liaison with the USDA, maintenance, production, plant management and contracted service providers.
  • Mentors and coaches plant personnel as a form of training and continuous improvement.
  • Will be directly involved with corrective action and preventive measure activities.
  • Will play a significant role in new product development, validation and implementation.
  • Complete projects for progression or as assigned by the QA Director with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to food safety and quality.
  • Oversee pre-operational sanitation inspection.
  • Complete and develop reports using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point).
  • Initiate USDA Sketch approvals involving animal production and product quality claims.
  • Delegate tasks to QA Techs and follow-up to ensure that they have been properly completed.
  • Manage QA Tech scheduling including personal time off and unscheduled absences.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of retail meat cuts and product specifications, food safety and quality training
  • Supervisory experience (minimum 5 yrs.)
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in quality assurance, and food safety management systems, meat and poultry HACCP and SQF Practitioner certification is desired.
