What You Do.

  • Assists Plant Food Safety teams in developing appropriate and consistent content, documentation, and execution of Food Safety Plans.
  • Seeks information from internal (R&D, Operations, Supply Quality, Operational Quality, etc.) and external (suppliers, consultants) functional experts to resolve issues.
  • Under close supervision, will conduct basic microbiological and environmental pathogen testing using established laboratory procedures.
  • Performs a variety of routine scientific tasks that provide experience and familiarization with technical and other functional areas using the methods, practices, and programs of Sargento Foods Inc. (SFI)
  • Reviews, interprets, and/or writes consultative or scientific reports, whitepapers, and presentations related to Food Safety.

**Purpose & Scope:** Reports directly to the Technical Services Director and has primary responsibility for the direction of the workforce to achieve all safety, animal welfare, food safety, export, and quality goals as set forth by facility management. This position is responsible for the supervision of Food Safety and Quality (FSQA) personnel, and oversee quality and food safety aspects of production. Responsible for product specifications testing, food safety systems, process improvements and quality programs within the plant.
**Principle Responsibilities:** List and describe (in order of importance) the specific tasks, assignments, level of discretionary authority and/or functions performed.
+ Organizes and coordinates the activities of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team to meet and exceed quality, export, animal welfare, and food safety goals by levering engineering and food/meat science skillsets.
+ Conducts investigations of plant Food Safety and Quality Assurance processes and ensures process improvements projects and tasks are completed.
+ Participates in Operational Excellence project, meeting project team no less than twice per year.
+ Organizes and coordinates the activities of the Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) team for implementation of quality and food safety programs (HACCP and SSOP) and procedures utilizing skills learned in food science, meat science, microbiology courses.
+ Manages the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor on the responsible shift.

**POSITION SUMMARY:**
The Food Safety Coordinator maintains the documentation critical for the Quality Systems, HACCP and Food Safety and

Compensation

**What you'll be doing:**
1. **Food Safety:**
2. Ensure proper compliance with corporate food safety programs as required by local, state, and federal regulations.
3. Prepare units for the health department and third-party audits and support any corrective action or continuous improvement tasks as needed.
4. Monitor food safety log and SOP compliance.
5. Ensure the development and delivery of food safety training programs for employees, ensuring proper handling, storage, and processing of food products.
6. Monitor completion of internal MyFieldAudits and follow up on corrective actions.
7. Investigate food safety incidents, conduct a root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
1. **Physical Safety:**
2. Ensure proper compliance with corporate physical safety programs to reduce workplace hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant regulations.
3. Training Delivery - Ensure training on health and safety management topics to WVU leadership & new managers on implementing safety programs.
1. **Collaboration and Communication:**
2. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and human resources, to ensure seamless integration of safety programs.
3. Monitor reports on food and physical safety performance metrics, trends, and improvement initiatives to senior management and segment safety.
4. Attend client and operational meetings as and when required to support the effective implementation of work-based food and physical safety solutions.
4. **Continuous Improvement:**
1. Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices related to food and physical safety.
2. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of safety programs and reduce risk.
3. Promote a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization.
**What we're looking for:**
_Must-haves:_
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in food safety with a knowledge of workplace safety standards, preferably in hospitality or food production environment *Combination of education and experience will be considered.
+ Strong knowledge of HACCP, FDA Food Code, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
+ Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
+ Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Responsible to lead the continued development and implementation of a comprehensive, best-in-class approach to food safety and regulatory compliance in multiple refrigerated warehouse facilities. This position will oversee the implementation of GFSI food safety requirements and advise senior leadership and field operations management on food safety and regulatory compliance matters.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement corporate food safety and regulatory policies to ensure compliance with customer, governmental, and internal requirements across all warehouse operations.
  • Support implementation of security policies and protocols across all warehouses
  • Lead and support a team of Corporate Food Safety Managers to foster a strong, company-wide food safety culture.
  • Provide guidance for non-standard operations (e.g., protein processing, fruit packing, e-commerce).
  • Oversee third-party food safety audits and ensure all warehouses maintain required federal, state, and local licenses, including FDA registration renewals.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive food safety training across the network on topics such as GFSI/SQF, HACCP, Food Defense, and Internal Auditing.
  • Ensure compliance with external customer certification programs including USDA Organic, California Prop 12, C-TPAT, and Import/Export regulations.

What Experience and Education You Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field required.
  • 10-15 years of experience in food manufacturing or food distribution under USDA/FDA (or equivalent) oversight, with minimum 8 years in progressive leadership experience, with multi-site responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety legislation, GFSI certification (SQF preferred), HACCP principles, and internal auditing (ASQ certifications a plus)
  • Proven ability to interact with regulatory agencies and manage compliance programs including Export/Import, C-TPAT, and environmental regulations.
  • Skilled in developing and delivering training across organizational levels and analyzing processes to identify food safety and quality risks.
