Job Summary

The NICU Registered Nurse (RN) provides exemplary patient-centered care using a comprehensive nursing process that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role is critical in coordinating and delivering high-quality care according to established clinical protocols and physician orders.

The RN engages collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes while fostering a compassionate environment for patients and their families.

Essential Functions

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in adherence to organizational policies and clinical protocols.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, accurately document findings, and report changes in patient conditions promptly.
• Administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and document in compliance with nursing standards.
• Assist medical staff during procedures, utilizing documented competencies and skills.
• Collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient assessments.
• Respond effectively to emergencies and participate in life-saving interventions as required.
• Advocate for patients' rights and needs, ensuring they are involved in their care planning.
• Educate patients and families on medical issues, treatments, and post-discharge care to promote understanding and adherence.
• Implement infection control standards to minimize healthcare-associated infections.
• Monitor and operate necessary medical equipment to enhance patient safety and care.
• Promote a safe patient environment while adhering to National Patient Safety Goals.
• Participate in audits and compliance checks to maintain high standards of practice.
• Document patient care comprehensively and promptly in medical records.

• Specific to NICU RNs:
• Continuously assess vital signs and signs of distress in neonatal patients.
• Administer medications and support treatments, including respiratory care.
• Manage feeding needs, ensuring nutritional adequacy for newborns.
• Perform essential care tasks and procedures, including IV line insertions and other interventions.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience in clinical nursing or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong grasp of clinical nursing principles and practices.
• Adept at thorough patient assessments and effective communication of findings.
• Knowledgeable in medication administration and monitoring.
