Responsibilities

    Develop site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of projects, including large-scale industrial developments, biotech, institutional, healthcare and residential
  • Support preparation of land development design and permitting documents
  • Responsible for project financial performance and client relations
  • Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting the systems designed
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues with them
  • Supervise design team activities during Construction Administration
  • Manage work and development of junior-level staff
  • Manage small, medium or large projects
  • Develop new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions

Skills and Attributes

  • Highly Proficient in the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, MS Office. ArcGIS skills highly desirable
  • Skills to implement the integrated services approach. Comprehensive understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planting.
  • Knowledge of land development construction including codes and development regulations
  • Knowledge of construction materials and detailing. Detail drawings, sections, and material specifications
  • Experience with green initiative programs and low-impact design (LEED, Envision)

Projects range from multi-family and mixed-use developments, market rate apartment communities, large scale industrial and distribution projects, residential neighborhood design to public land development projects like schools, jails, fire stations and parks.

We assist our clients with zoning entitlements, civil site plan approvals, and construction administration support. Our project engineers will typically work in a team of 2-3 design engineers and a project manager to bring our client’s vision to life. The complexity and fast paced nature of our client’s needs creates a dynamic environment for our team members and fosters a culture of teamwork, diverse training opportunities, and builds a sense of ownership in the successful outcome of the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling and Civil 3D technology
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilize computers in order to solve problems
  • Prepare specifications materials through the use of research and equipment catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection and payment of items specific to a project
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets
  • Perform research and writes objective summary reports which are used in the completion of the project work or inspection
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates
  • Complete field observation, inspection and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the Unites States without sponsorship now and in the future

Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • A bachelor or master's degree in civil engineering or closely related field is required
  • EIT required
  • Ideal candidates would have between 2-8 years of professional experience in Land Development civil engineering, but entry level will be considered
  • Experience with preparation of civil engineering site plans including site layout, utilities, grading & drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management is a plus
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform tasks on multi-discipline projects on a variety of project sites within the City of Winchester as well as the surrounding region.

Job Description

**Overview**
Kimley-Horn's Richmond, Virginia (VA) office is seeking a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Land Development team! This is not a remote position.
**Responsibilities**
+ Perform site development engineering and project management tasks for residential and commercial projects
+ Projects will include a variety of land development site designs
+ In addition to strong technical experience, other responsibilities will include research, coordination, project management, staff management, cost estimating, permitting for land disturbance and preparation of bid packages as well as technical specifications
+ Assist in monitoring project progress, budgets, and schedules
+ This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of engineers and designers on a variety of projects
+ You will flourish on both building meaningful internal and external professional relationships
+ You will work closely and collaboratively with other industry leading professionals, various jurisdictions, and contractors
**Qualifications**
+ 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience
+ Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
+ Candidates should have experience with site civil design, permitting, and applicable software applications including hydrology modeling program, storm drainage programs, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D
+ Experience with task management, concept design, and assisting project management tasks
+ Familiar with coordinating with clients, attending client meetings, and overseeing quality standards
+ Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
+ Ability to build plan sets and other construction documents
+ Design experience that includes utilities, site layout, drainage, due diligence and permitting
