The base salary range for this role is $153,920 to $192,400. Base salary is part of our total rewards package which also includes the opportunity for merit-based salary increases, short incentive plan participation, eligibility for our 401(k) plan, medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances and leaves provided in line with your work state. Our robust time-off policy includes flexible paid time off, 11 paid holidays plus additional time off for a shut-down period during the last week of December, 80 hours of paid sick time upon hire and each year thereafter. Total compensation, including base salary to be offered, will depend on elements unique to each candidate, including candidate experience, skills, education and other factors permitted by law.

Position Summary:
The Principal Data Engineer will drive the strategic design, development, and optimization of Hartford Healthcare's (HHC) advanced data infrastructure. This role involves the architecture and development of data solutions that enable reliable, high-performance analytics, data science initiatives, and digital transformation across the organization. The Principal Data Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, lead the engineering team, and play a critical role in shaping HHC's long-term data strategy while ensuring adherence to data governance, privacy, and security best practices.
Position Responsibilities:
Key Areas of Responsibility
Strategic Leadership & Data Infrastructure Development:
•Design and oversee the implementation of scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-based and on-premises data pipelines to handle complex and large-scale data sets from multiple sources.
•Drive strategic initiatives around data lakehouse, data mesh, and advanced architectures that meet the evolving needs of the organization.
•Ensure high-performance data integration to support enterprise-wide reporting, AI-driven analytics, and digital health innovation.
Architecture & Innovation:
•Lead the design of enterprise-wide data architecture frameworks, including data models, ETL pipelines, and data warehouses, ensuring optimized processing and storage for diverse use cases.
•Implement next-generation data management solutions by researching and experimenting with new technologies (e.g., real-time streaming, serverless architectures, and machine learning integration).
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
•Collaborate with key stakeholders, including data scientists, data governance teams, clinical informatics, and IT leadership, to align data architecture with organizational goals.
•Partner with leadership in defining long-term data strategies and ensuring technical alignment with business priorities.
Data Governance & Security:
•Ensure all data engineering solutions adhere to HHC's data governance frameworks, complying with HIPAA, HITECH, and other healthcare regulations.
•Implement automated data security, privacy controls, and audit trails to protect sensitive healthcare information and comply with internal and external data protection standards.
Mentoring & Team Leadership:
•Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to a team of junior and senior data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
•Promote best practices for agile development, DevOps, data version control, and automation across the data engineering team.
Innovation & Experimentation:
•Lead experimentation with new data platforms, tools, and approaches to continuously enhance the organization's data capabilities.

Qualifications:
Education
•Minimum: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related quantitative field required.
•Preferred: Master's degree in computer science, healthcare administration, or related field preferred.
Experience
•Minimum
o 8+ years of hands-on experience in data software development, including cloud-native architectures (GCP preferred).
o Extensive (8+ years)experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, and Java.
o 8+ years of Experience with specialized data architecture (e.g., data lake, lake house, data fabric, data mesh)
o 8+ years of experience with ETL design, data modeling, and building robust data pipelines.
o Proactive and self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning and staying updated with best practices, new features, and emerging technologies.
o Advanced experience with cloud-based data engineering, GCP, AWS, or Azure.
o Proactive in driving strategy, aligning technical solutions with business needs, and managing day to day operations between cross-functional teams.

**The Role at a Glance**
The Life Reinsurance team at Lincoln is responsible for coordinating reinsurance administration, execution, and monitoring efforts across Lincoln's Life Solutions organization. This expanding team is looking to onboard a data-driven actuary, accountant, accounting systems, or financial reporting expert to develop and maintain strategic reinsurance administration and monitoring processes. This person will play a leadership role in developing monitoring infrastructure on a backlog of transactions, and build infrastructure to administer new & existing life strategic reinsurance transactions. This person will work with deal leads to onboard new transactions into administration & monitoring systems and provide a key feedback loop to finance, reinsurance accounting, and deal leads on business performance and expectations of each transaction.
**What you'll be doing**
·Develops and maintains administration and monitoring infrastructure for strategic reinsurance transactions within the Individual Life line of business.
·Surveys upstream data providers and downstream data customers to develop understanding of how reinsurance data is used throughout Lincoln's information ecosystem.
·Leads development of data processes and reconciliation reports that are efficient, tractable, and instill confidence in the integrity of results for downstream stakeholders and auditors.
·Compiles historical information relating to deal implementation, intention, and performance expectations.
·Captures intentions and risks of strategic reinsurance transactions by understanding analysis performed at the time of deal inception and putting self in the shoes of the individuals/teams who executed the transaction.
·Leads actuaries to transform prior models or develop new models as needed to allow for side-by-side comparison of settlement line items, financial indicators, and deal performance drivers.
·Creates historical reviews on strategic reinsurance transactions, presenting findings to key stakeholders, and setting expectations of key drivers specific to subject transactions.
·Provides feedback to all parties involved in the reinsurance data ecosystem and uses expertise to recognize, probe, and remediate/explain when results are misaligned with expectation.
·Researches problems and questions from stakeholders across the organization, including but not limited to, Accounting, Finance, Life Solutions, M&A.
**What we're looking for**
-4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)
-5-7+ Years experience in actuarial science, accounting, accounting systems, or financial reporting that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
-FSA, ASA with additional years of experience, CPA with additional years of experience, or advanced accounting degree with additional years of experience
-Proficiency and proven ability in model development, process development, or accounting system development.
-Ability to analyze complex information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution.

The pay range for this position is $93,300 - $169,700 with **anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range** and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual.
