CLASS TITLE : HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING MECHANIC

DEFINITION : Under general supervision, performs work in the maintenance, installation and repair of building heating and air conditioning systems and equipment in District buildings, and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES :
  • Inspects and tests heating and air conditioning systems
  • Does electrical work including trouble shooting and heating control maintenance and repair
  • Overhauls pumps, motors, fans and related air handling and distribution equipment
  • Repair thermostats, temperature control values, damper operating devices, boiler controls and safety devices
  • Installs new heating and cooling equipment
  • Operates test equipment for measuring pressures, velocities, voltages, etc
  • Lays out work and interprets blueprints
  • Replaces worn parts on a variety of mechanical equipment
  • Maintains work records
  • Maintains kitchen appliances
  • Maintains gas fired equipment
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :

Training and Experience : A combination of training and experience equivalent to four years of progressively responsible experience in heating and air conditioning maintenance.

Knowledge of :
  • The operation, maintenance and repair of building, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and controls
  • Tools and equipment used in building mechanical system repair work
Skills in :
  • Reading schematic control diagrams, wiring diagrams and in trouble shooting systems
  • Following plans and blueprints in repair activities
  • Operating hand tools
Ability to :
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Licenses and Certificates :
  • A valid California driver's license

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.
Physical: This position requires lifting heavy objects, either manually or with the aid of lifting devices. It also requires occasional squatting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, stooping, and working in dirty environments with extreme temperature changes.
Environment: Incumbents work in confined spaces and may occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemicals, infectious materials, and radiation.
Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. Employees must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license.
Availability: Incumbents may occasionally be required to work on call, in a 24 hour environment, overtime, and evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet ONE of the following options AND required certification:
Option 1 - Work Experience: Four (4) years of journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and industrial equipment for heating, ventilation, cooling (HVAC/chiller/boiler), and package units.
Option 2 - Apprenticeship: Successful completion of a formal (4-year) air conditioning apprenticeship program resulting in journey-level status. Indicate apprenticeship provider and completion date on the Supplemental Questionnaire. Attach a copy of your certificate or card to the application.

Required Certification: Possession of an EPA 608 Universal Certification.

**Amentum** is seeking a **HVAC Technician** to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The HVAC Technician will install, operate, repair, troubleshoot, and accomplish preventive maintenance on small and large refrigeration, air conditioning (a/c) units.
**Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.** **Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Install, service and repair environmental-control system, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, soldering, braising and structural layout.
+ Recommends solutions to problems in design and fit during installation and repair of HVAC systems, using three phase industrial power; performs field fit work when approved by the customer.
+ Mount compressor and condenser units on designated platforms using hand tools following blueprints or engineering specifications.
+ Perform troubleshooting and repair/replacement of motors and motor controls.
+ Be able to work safely with systems operating at 480 volts.
+ Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.

Overview *** This position is contingent upon contract award *** SOS International LLC (SOSi) is seeking a Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Mechanic to provide support for a Facilities and Life Support Contract performed at an overseas location. Essential Job Duties Must be thoroughly familiar with HVACR maintenance of equipment. Thorough knowledge of refrigeration, HVACR systems. A record of safe operations and working knowledge of safety standards for mechanical systems. Knowledge of building and safety codes and practices. Must be able to read blueprints and perform material take-offs from prints. Must possess leadership skills. Must possess the skills and attitudes to effectively communicate with the customer and subordinates. Minimum Requirements Active in scope Secret clearance. High school (or GED equivalent), technical school, or trade school graduate or equivalent apprenticeship to include formalized training in stationary engineering.
