National Award-Winning Studio & Winner of Design Firm of the Year is actively seeking a Director of Building Science to join their Sacramento/Berkeley, Atlanta, Orlando or Tampa office. The company's building science team is seeking two (2) Directors to lead the delivery of building envelope consulting services for their Northern California offices and Florida or Georgia offices. Services include wind infiltration, forensic investigation, roof replacement, and repairs. The successful candidate will support and lead the Northern California team or Florida/Georgia team with roofing and building envelope projects.

Prioritized Essential Functions

Primary duties consist of work that requires advanced architectural and engineering knowledge acquired by a prolonged experience and course of specialized intellectual instruction in roofing and waterproofing. This position requires to be in and around construction sites and established buildings.

With light supervision and heavy decision-making:

  • Produce work that is original, intellectual in the field of building envelope consulting.
  • Produce work that consistently meets and maintains the standards set by the company for high quality construction.
  • Be able to react to clients needs.
  • Supervise Field personnel and monitor field and construction activities to ensure a quality product is delivered to the client with the highest level of service and timeliness.
  • Communicate both in person and in writing with business clients, management, members of field and the company divisions, project team, contractors and consultants.
  • Investigate by both destructive and non-destructive means and recommend course of action, perform inspections and observations at existing facilities with respect to roofing or construction issues.
  • Establish and monitor project files and review/create/maintain Project Directory.
  • Monitor and maintain all documentation during construction phase, closeout of project, warranty review, etc.
  • Develop and maintain new clientele while providing individual facilities management and new construction project assistance.
  • Devote approximately 90% of work time to activities essential to and necessarily incident to the company's business operations.
  • Support team efforts and report to the President of the building science division on all project-related issues and team matters.
  • Perform such other work as to support and complement the President in overall client projects and team management.
Other Responsibilities
  • Consistently use supervisor and decision-making abilities while exercising discretion and judgment.
  • Assists in the accomplishment of the company's goals.
  • Helps other employees to accomplish the company's goals.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by department supervisor.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work in construction setting. Be able to set up and climb ladders and maneuver in and around buildings.
  • Have the ability to use cutting tools such as core cutters and utility knives, pliers and screw guns for removing equipment/doors, hammers for driving probes and breaking into walls.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Knowledge/Skillset Required
  • Minimum of five (5) years work experience in an architectural/engineering consulting environment and/or
  • Minimum of five (5) years work in construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering preferred.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Suites (Revit, AutoCAD) preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize multiple projects and adjust work accordingly, often against tight deadline.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact with clients, senior management, external client organizations and vendors.
  • Quality minded and self-motivated.
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing, and maintains effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment, familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering is preferred; Associate’s degree in related field plus 3+ year’s experience will be considered. 5+ year’s experience in architectural, engineering, construction field(s) is preferred.

Position Overview:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in any of the following: Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Materials Science Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Geology; Note: Construction Management degrees and certain Technology degrees may not be considered.

**Job Description:**
The Alpharetta, Georgia office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Engineering Technician for Construction Materials Testing, to join our growing practice. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.
**Job Responsibilities:**
+ Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, and reinforcing steel
+ Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results
+ Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results
+ Opportunities for advancement based on performance, work quality, ability to obtain NICET certifications, and ability to obtain post-secondary educational degrees
**Required Skills/Experience:**
+ High School degree
+ Valid Driver's License
+ Possess good oral, written, communication, and organizational skills
+ Able to perform rudimentary mathematic computations
+ Attentive to detail
+ Interest in working outdoors on construction sites
+ Candidates must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds on an occasional basis and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside
+ Prior experience on construction projects is preferred (2+ years)
+ Possess ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification, or be able to attain within three (3) months of start date
+ Completion of APNGA Nuclear Gauge Safety Class with U.S. DOT HAZMAT, or ability to complete within three (3) months of start date
**Other Requirements:**
+ Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
+ Ability to pass a pre-employment screening

This person oversees and directs all State and Local Government construction materials testing and oversight for our Georgia operations. Management duties include client management, project management, staff supervision, training, and oversight of the work of roadway testing technicians and other professional staff.

Job Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
  • Oversees daily activities of the program and solve operational problems as needed.
  • Provides oversight of field testing technicians to ensure project specifications are met and the work meets the required quality standards.
  • Performs project management duties as needed (including oversight of field technicians, managing project budgets, reviewing client billing reports).
  • Ensures that branch laboratories attains and maintains desired certifications and registrations.
  • Assist in the development and training of testing personnel.
  • Evaluates protocols and procedures employed by staff to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Prepares written reports, reviews staffs testing reports, and monitors contract testing response times.
  • Develops and presents verbal/written proposals or reports and interacts with clients, other consulting engineers, and prospective clients.
  • Makes professional and technical recommendations regarding project material issues and/or corrective measures.
  • Pursues work on behalf of the services provided including coordinating or preparing proposals for potential work.
  • Attends and participates in managers meetings, other management meetings, and strategic planning meetings.
  • Strives to see that the hub accomplishes the stated Mission of the company and that Atlas Values, Goals and Objectives are met.
Minimum Requirements:
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a related field required.
  • Strong Civil/Construction/CMT background.
  • Strong CMT, Project, Construction Management background. Prior Management and Supervision Training.
Technical Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of ASTM standards, AASHTO Specifications, and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of CMT testing methods, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Problem solves and determines compliance issue resolutions.
  • Fosters relationships with clients (Ability to develop trust and credibility through engagement).
  • Develops and implements long-range strategic activities for the local and state CMT program.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in field testing and laboratory settings.
Other Miscellaneous Qualities:
