Location: La Plata, MD area

Salary: 32.78 SCA

Schedule: Full time - hourly SCA wages. Daytime hours.

Counseling sessions may be conducted in-person or virtually, based on Veteran preference and VA approval.

We are seeking compassionate, qualified career counselors to provide Personalized Career Planning and Guidance (PCPG) services to eligible Veterans and transitioning Service Members. This role supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) initiative to expand access to mental health care across major geographic regions, including the Pacific, Continental, Southeast, and Northeast districts.

Counselors will deliver one-on-one sessions tailored to the Veteran's needs, with flexibility in session format and location. Services will be offered in 20 high-demand cities identified for their significant Veteran populations and strategic alignment with VA district structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Vocational Assessments and Counseling
    Provide individualized vocational evaluations and counseling sessions to help Veterans identify strengths, interests, and career pathways.
    • Collaborate with Assigned Vocational Counselors
      Engage in regular discussions with the Veteran's designated vocational counselor to align goals, progress, and support strategies.
    • Prepare Comprehensive Reports
      Develop detailed, individualized 20-page reports for each Veteran, documenting their abilities, vocational goals, and recommended career plans.
    • Perform Worksite Evaluations
      Visit and assess potential job sites to ensure they meet the Veteran's needs and support successful placement and retention.
    • Provide Resource Guidance
      Share up-to-date information on job opportunities, training programs, and educational resources tailored to the Veteran's career objectives.
    • Deliver Career Coaching
      Offer coaching focused on workplace integration, including guidance on reasonable accommodations and strategies for disability disclosure for Veterans re-entering the workforce.
    • Maintain Compliance and Documentation
      Ensure all services and records meet VA standards, HIPAA requirements, and program guidelines.
  • Conduct sessions in one of the following approved settings:
    • Contractor-Furnished Facility : ADA-compliant, professional, and accessible location
    • Veteran's Residence : If preferred by the Veteran and agreed upon by the counselor
    • Other Private Location : Community centers, libraries, or other private spaces ensuring confidentiality
    • Virtual Sessions : HIPAA-compliant video counseling (subject to VA approval)
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with VA standards
  • Collaborate with VA oversight teams for program reporting and quality assurance
  • Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all interactions
  • Adapt to evolving program requirements as outlined in future RFPs
Qualifications
  • Education :
    Master of Science (MS) or Master of Arts (MA) degree in one of the following disciplines from a regionally accredited college or university:
      • Career Guidance and Planning
      • Rehabilitation Counseling
      • Counseling Psychology
      • Adult Education
      • Educational Program Administration
      • Or a closely related counseling discipline
  • Preferred Experience :

    Minimum of 2 years' professional counseling experience, preferably with military, or government sector.
  • Skills & Competencies :

The Manager, Career Services plays a central role in advancing Sidley’s Career Services program, which supports lawyers, alumni, clients and friends of the firm in identifying and pursuing career transitions. Reporting to the Associate Director, Career Services, the Manager combines direct candidate advising with program development and operational oversight. This includes providing personalized support to program participants, designing events and communications, and overseeing the firm’s in-house opportunities database and the work of the Technology Analyst. The Manager ensures that the Career Services program delivers a high-quality experience, maintains operational excellence, and aligns with the firm’s broader strategic priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidate Advising & Support

  • Conducts intake and follow-up meetings with candidates, providing guidance on in-house career paths, job-search strategies, and Sidley’s careers services offerings.
  • Facilitates opportunity matching, introductions, and curated job reports, leveraging firm data and networks, with discretion and sensitivity.
  • Develops relationships with alumni, recruiters, and strategic contacts to proactively identify job opportunities.
  • Tracks candidate progress and gathers feedback to refine program offerings.
  • Provides guidance on resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and interview preparation.

Program Development & Communications

  • Supports efforts to promote the program and job board as a resource for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Designs and delivers career-focused events, workshops, and webinars to engage candidates and enhance preparedness.
  • Develops and manages newsletters, intranet pages, and alumni portal content to promote opportunities and showcase program successes.

Database & Technology Oversight

  • Oversees the in-house opportunities database, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and user-friendliness.
  • Supervises the Technology Analyst responsible for daily system management, workflows, and data entry.
  • Establishes standards for data hygiene, reporting, and user support, and partners with IT and marketing technology teams on system enhancements.
  • Ensures compliance with data privacy policies across databases and platforms.
  • Produces regular reports and dashboards to highlight trends and program outcomes.

Operational Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Develops and documents standard processes for candidate intake, opportunity tracking, and program communications.
  • Monitors program activity against established metrics and contributes to reporting for firm leadership.
  • Collects feedback from candidates, stakeholders, and partners, recommending and implementing improvements.
  • Supports cross-departmental collaboration to ensure Career Services integrates seamlessly with other firm resources.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. Job Description

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing emergency medical care and hospital transport to citizens calling 911. The EMT classification represents a high level of urgent response treatment care provided for out of hospital medical or traumatic emergencies. EMTs must possess the following qualifications: EMT Certification, CPR Certification, and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Certification.

Work responsibilities extend to monitoring and ordering supplies and emergency vehicle inspection and maintenance. All work must be performed in accordance with best practices, Federal, State and County laws, regulations, local ordinances, policies, procedures and the Maryland EMS provider protocols. The position works under the direction of and reports to the career EMS Shift Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

Responds to 911 calls and for service and performs patient assessment: O2, CPR, monitoring vital signs, 12-lead EKG application and transmission, Intravenous line initiation, interpretation of test results and transportation of patients to care facilities.

Provides emergency medical treatment and CPR to patients suffering from medical or traumatic incidents to include the administration of drugs and procedures as per Maryland protocols.

Orders supplies and equipment for assigned transport unit.

Performs transport unit inspections and maintenance.

Sanitizes and deodorizes transport unit daily to comply with various infectious control procedures.

Provides emergency care --- bandaging, splinting, medication administration, bleeding control, oxygen administration (and other practices for which personnel are trained).

Lifts and carries patients, with assistance, to unit stretcher or transport unit

Documents outcome of all calls to include type of call (emergency or non-emergency), care rendered, patient outcomes, and other protocols associated with the incident.

Assures that documentation required by the EMS Division, Fire/Rescue/EMS and MIEMSS is furnished in a timely and accurate manner.

Performs quality assurance reviews of previous incident calls with co-workers to ensure best practices are maintained.

Operates emergency vehicles in accordance with County driving procedures and Career Emergency Medical Services Division operating guidelines.

Maintains security levels required to safeguard and protect the privacy of all protected records.

Interacts and communicates with volunteer stations, hospital personnel, patients, families, and supervisory personnel.

Assists with station duties, as scheduled or required.

Other Duties

Performs related work as required.

Knowledges, Abilities and Skills

Knowledge of--

  • Principles and methods of related EMT services, including rendering emergency care in accordance with safety protocols and procedures.
  • Best practices of providing EMT urgent response, emergency medical care protocols, including treatment and transportation, emergency and trauma response and the management of medical emergencies.
  • EMT standard operating procedures, laws, codes, rules, regulations and requirements governing the provision of emergency medical care, services and transport.
  • Principles and practices of EMT emergency medical programs, transport maintenance, emergency vehicle driving compliances, trauma care, continuous training, and quality assurance.

Ability to--

  • Provide urgent EMT medical and trauma care, as required, in response to 911 calls.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with EMS personnel, hospital personnel, volunteer station personnel, and with patients and their families.
  • Respond to EMT service needs to achieve program goals, objectives, and priorities.
  • Comply with EMT standard operating procedures, laws, codes, rules and regulations governing program activities.
  • Comply with county EMS Standards of Care.
  • Compile and summarize data and information, as required, for a variety of reports and quality assurance purposes.

Required Qualifications

Training and/or Education:

High School degree.

Experience:

One year of experience as an EMT or one year in a related emergency response field.

Licenses or Certificates:

Maintain valid driver's license.

Emergency Vehicle Operating Course Certification.

Possess and maintain a valid Maryland EMT certification (Applicants who are not a Maryland certified EMS provider that are National Registry certified must obtain a valid Maryland certification within thirty days of hire).

Maintain CPR Certification.

Special Requirements

Subject to agility testing (Candidate Physical Ability Test - CPAT).

Subject to background investigation.

Subject to pre-employment physical and periodic assessment.

Subject to initial drug screening and random testing.

Operation of County and volunteer fire and rescue department owned vehicles.
